GSC UU is the first official generation of UU, and it has a bunch of differences from future generations, such as the absence of abilities, physical/special being decided by typing of moves, viable items (mostly) being limited to leftovers or itemless with thief, the only hazards being 1 layer of spikes, and the unique sleep talk mechanics which can allow rest to act when pulled and reset your hp and sleep counter. Some of these traits lead towards the tier being a more defensive one than some future generations, but progress is forged through options such as Spikes, Explosion, mixed attackers, and Curse/Swords Dance set-up to make it a diverse and interesting tier!
