This is the Commencement thread for GSC PL V. This thread is a place for players to discuss the tournament. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any of the hosts. The reward for winning this tournament is a custom avatar to be used on Pokemon Showdown.

There will be 6 teams in this tournament, each team will have one manager and one co-manager. There will be 8 slots every week: 4 for OU, 1 for Ubers, 1 for UU, 1 for NU, and 1 for PU. Each team must select 11 players from the auction, meaning with 8 starting players each team must have 3 substitute players. The starting amount of credits for the auction will be 110k credits, and the self-buy price for a manager is 20k with double self-buys not allowed; additionally retains are allowed with a maximum of 3 retains allowed for any returning team including any self-buying. The auction will be using the Snake format, and will take place on the GSCPL room on Pokemon Showdown. The date of this auction is TBD, and each team is required to provide at least one representative to draft for the auction.

To self-buy as a manager, you must sign up in the Player Signups thread and let us know before the Player Signups end. The Player Signups will end 24 hours before the auction date. You must also let us know in advance if you plan to retain any player with confirmation.

More on retaining, the amount of retains a team has originally is 3 barring any self-buys from the managers. If a manager self-buys, this goes down to 2. The price of a retain for any player who was drafted under the price of 7k credits, is automatically 10k credits. If a team drafted a player for above 7k credits, then thier price will be their original price added by 3k credits. So for example, a player retained that was originally bought for 14k credits will be retained for 17k credits. Pools for retains are going to be displayed in the section below.

This tour will be using the Belgian Pro League format, which resembles the following. The regular season will last for 5 weeks, with each team having played each other once. The top 4 teams from the regular season will advance to playoffs, to compete in a 3 week round robin to determine the top two teams to advance to the finals. After these two segments, the top 2 teams will play in the final week. Adding it all up, this tour will last 9 weeks.

For each win, the team will be awarded 2 points. For a tie, the team will be awarded 1 point. For a loss, there will be no points awarded.

At any point in the week, a team can substitute out a player from a game if they are inactive or cannot play the game due to IRL issues or a schedule that does not match up at all with their opponent. In order to make a substitution, the manager must post the substitution in the week thread, tagging the hosts, the opposing managers, and the opposing player, stating which player is being subbed out and who the substituting player is. However, a player who has been substituted out for a week cannot be substituted back into a slot in the same week. In addition, the hosts can veto any substitution if they believe the reason for substitution is to gain a 'favorable' player matchup in the OU slots, where player order matters.

There will be no trades allowed. If a bought player is inactive or cancers, they can be reported and replaced with a player from the undrafted pool of players. Hosts will have final discretion on what constitutes inactivity or cancering, and all situations will be treated on a case-by-case basis. After week 3 of the tournament, managers can still report inactive or cancering players, but they will not be allowed to pick a replacement player.

Dm me or staxi on dc for tryouts (not taking traditional tryouts but will consider replays and and tour achivements!!)

Signed up and should be fine to play + help the other ou. Few things to consider:
1. Historically I forget how to play in fall and remember in the new year. Last year I went 0-4 for reference
2. Unlike some players I have no floor, I can win or lose vs anyone.

With that in mind, if you draft me dont feel bad or hesitate to move me around / bench, i dont mind. Not trying to pricefix, and I dont intend to choke, just there is a real risk of underperformance so caveat emptor.

Wanted to shoutout some lower tier players I think should be drafted!

DAWNBUSTER Real FV13 MrSoup and SANKE CARP are the obvious picks and will probably go for 20k each. They have consistently proven their worth across all GSC lower tiers for multiple years now and will each be excellent choices in their respective tiers (UU, NU, NU, PU).

Shengineer has performed excellently this year as a newcomer to GSC NU, piloting even complicated teams surprisingly well. He is currently in grand finals of GSC NU invitational on the loser's side. His ability to support other GSC tiers is minimal, but he will be an excellent NU pickup.

evakiyama! performed quite well in this year's UUFPL and UUCL as a newcomer to GSC UU, showing genuine passion for the tier and being a very promising face. She should absolutely be someone to look out for as a GSC UU option.

BloodAce is no stranger to GSC PU, having played it since the very first post-Furret tournament and consistently performing quite well. He's reliable and will get the job done, no questions asked.

DD Joe is quite a new face to the scene, but he made his mark by winning GSC PU cup this year. He should absolutely be on your radar.

Kiyo is a player who's very capable of playing either UU or NU at a solid level, and he can provide support for the other simultaneously. Very strong value pick.

Zpice is lesser experienced, but no less passionate, and he should be a very respectable pick in either UU or NU.

leoperi is someone who is capable of playing all GSC tiers, though he specializes in UU and NU. His team builds are sometimes fantastical, but nonetheless he shows up and consistently performs in team tours.

hammer798 is another new face to the NU scene this year, and while I project him to be at the lower end of the pool, he's still very capable and he knows his stuff, and he should get a shot this year in NU.

O1V7O2X9O doesn't have much GSC lower tier experience experience, but I've heard they are a very strong GSC randbats player and they performed quite well in GSC Slam League in PU.

Lyra is capable of playing both UU and NU to a respectable level, having done so in the past when given support.

Looking forward to a great tournament, and happy GSC'ing!

Had a few people message me on Discord already so wanted to just say publicly (and confirm the messages are appreciated) :

I'm very sick irl atm so can't do tryouts and might not reply to your messages immediately but I will make sure to have a look at anything anyone sends me. If you do want to play on Raikous feel free to hit me up like that, and if I do recover in time for it before draft I might be able to do some tryouts then too, otherwise resumes and replays are all ideal.

I've seen some concerns regarding the Ubers pool for this tour and I wanted to clarify that even though the main names might not be present for this instalment I believe there are some unproven and less known players that deserve some recognition before the draft.

Tier 1: People that I've seen do well and have played the tier.
-Waruchu: has been enthusiastic about the tier for a long time and has forme doing discussions about it his play is proper

-Skysolo: general Ubers player have seen play the tier from previous UPLs and tours w success

-coco: all rounded GSC player with tons of success on the tournament scene and in GSC Ubers

-Blazing Dark: all rounded GSC player with tons of success on the tournament scene will do well on Ubers if slotted there

entrocefalo: very solid player on the tournament scene has played gsc Ubers w lots of success

Tier 2: People that have a general idea of the tier or just play ubers.

-Cake: even tho she is an rby player she has seen some success on GSC ubers

-Raahel: has played the tier before to some success

-Exguardian: is new to the tier but has show some success on the latest tour

Tier 3: some newer players playing GSC Ubers.

This is funny because I thought the Ubers pool was actually quite stacked when I was glancing, didn’t realize this was an opinion people shared (of it not being stacked) Also lot of the GSC people that play the other “lower tier” have familiarity with the format. Draft is probably underway already but lots of good picks with or without support.

Just wanted to post personal prs for lower tiers to spice things up and generate some hype, enjoy.

UU
1. DAWNBUSTER - Magnificent Muks :muk:
Not much really needs to be said at this point. He dominates every GSC UU tournament he participates in, this year having dogwalked UUFPL to a 10-1 finish and won GSC UU cup. How he only went for 13.5k is extremely baffling.

2. col49 - Amp Plains Zapdos :zapdos:
Showing up in his first ever GSCPL, col49 has a pretty lengthy history of strong GSC performance in UUPL, including having the best record in this past edition despite not even signing up specifically to play GSC. I don't know how much his heart will be in the game, but if he tries, he will certainly do well.

3. evakiyama! - Carapinga Caterpies :caterpie:
Support: MrSoup
Arguably one of the biggest rising stars in GSC, evakiyama is coming off a strong UUFPL debut and a respectable UUCL showing en route to a tournament win. Evakiyama shows true passion for the tier and her team choices have been solid. I am definitely looking forward to how she will perform.

4. leoperi - Lovesick Ledians :ledian:
Support: jam, Zpice, Sabelette, vani
Leoperi performed excellently in UUFPL and UUCL this year, including being the only person to take a game off dawn (in finals too), and now he attempts to prove himself on the big stage. Leoperi certainly has the drive and solid playing skills, but his team choices have been inconsistent in quality, so it remains up in the air if he can iron out his kinks and string together a continually good showing.

5. Indulge in dreams - Royal Raikous :raikou:
Support: Estarossa
Indulge has little experience in GSC UU, and even less so in team tours, so I can't speak very much to their merits as a player. Their saving grace is the support of Estarossa, who, while he won't be playing UU, can pass teams and give advice and tests, possibly allowing Indulge to take a few surprise wins.

NU

1. MrSoup - Carapinga Caterpies :caterpie:
Support: hammer798
Pretty safely the undisputed goat of GSC NU, MrSoup has for years performed excellently in GSC NU. Last GSCPL, he finished at the top of the pool, and this year he dominated GSC NU cup and Jensenvite to a win in both, not losing a set in either until finals of invite (where he still ended up winning). He consistently shows his prowess in innovation, prep, and battle, and I expect it to continue.

2. Shengineer - Magnificent Muks :muk:
A newer face to the scene, Shengineer first dabbled with GSC around the time of NUCL and came back for more in Jensenvite. Little did we know, he would wind up in finals and was the only player to take a set off MrSoup before ultimately falling. Shen has proven himself a very solid clicker with a surprising amount of effectiveness in his sometimes-wacky teams, and I'm interested to see if that will continue.

3. Real FV13 - Royal Raikous :raikou:
Support: Estarossa
Real FV13 has been in the GSC business for a long while now, and it seems now he's fully migrating to NU. He's always been a good performer in tournaments, and this year he put it together with a victory over MrSoup to win GSC NU open and stop his three-peat. However, a solid 2-0 start in Jensenvite, he quickly fell out after losing the next 2, and his teams have always been suspect, so there is definitely some inconsistency. It's up to him now to prove he still has it in the strongest GSC NU pool ever.

4. BigFatMantis - Amp Plains Zapdos :zapdos:
BFM has abandoned retirement and is playing NU full-time for only his second tournament (the last being NUCL II a year ago), this time without the support of MrSoup. BFM has absolutely proven himself capable, being one of GSC Ubers' premier stars and having good showings in UU across numerous tiers, but his NU game is still fairly unexplored. Coming into a very tough pool, I am unsure if he will dominate with his crackpot, but he definitely has potential.

5. Zpice - Lovesick Ledians :ledian:
Support: Leoperi, vani
Zpice finds himself somewhat of a fish out of water here. He is certainly capable and has promise, but he's surrounded by players with far more experience and greatness in results, and I've not always been a huge fan of his building. He should definitely not be counted out completely, as he absolutely has the potential to take games off opponents, but for now I'm not fully sold. This tournament could be the chance for Zpice to break through and shine - he doesn't have much to lose.

PU

1. torkonpeter - Carapinga Caterpies :caterpie:
torkon has completely reversed his situation from last year's GSCPL - after being voted 6th in the PU pool last year (despite winning Aurist's GSC PU tournament), he dominated the pool to a 6-3 finish as a 3k and has continued performing well, having a decent PUBD performance, placing top 8 in GSC PU open, and finishing 2nd in GSC PU cup. His brings are consistently solid and he's proven himself capable on the battlefield. He should not be underestimated anymore.

2. vani - Lovesick Ledians :ledian:
Vani returns to GSC PU after not having played it since PUBD I where he performed quite well. Vani is also historically one of GSC OU and Ubers' best players. However, GSC PU has changed drastically in the near 2 years since he last dabbled in PU. He has some of the best raw skill of any player in the tournament, but when he has almost no support, the question arises of whether or not his brings will be good enough to let his clicking carry.

3. DD Joe - Magnificent Muks :muk:
Joe is the newest face to PU in the starting lineup, but he has absolutely made a splash. In one of his only GSC PU showings, he found himself at the top of the pile in GSC PU cup, beating two of the best active PU players, torkonpeter and (the now-banned) SANKE CARP on his way to taking home the win. Whether or not his success will continue remains to be seen, but I would definitely not be surprised if he dominated.

4. Estarossa - Royal Raikous :raikou:
Esta has also not played GSC PU very much in quite a while, playing two GSC games in PUBD II at the beginning of this year (and winning vs both torkon and SANKE), but there's not much else recently. What we do know though is that when he did participate, he performed quite well in PU, and he's still been seen supporting others by passing teams that display his signature style. He appears to be quite motivated currently, but for now I rank him below most of the pool.

5. Feen - Amp Plains Zapdos :zapdos:
Support: BigFatMantis
Feen, a player I expected to be starting in UU, has been shoved into PU. As far as I know, he has relatively little GSC PU experience, and the only support on his team is BFM, who is definitely capable, but has not played GSC PU consistently in a long time. Feen's clicking abilities are there, and he has plenty of general GSC experience, but I don't expect him to be able to put together enough for a truly good showing compared to others with far more playing and building experience.

Overall

1. Carapinga Caterpies - 1.67 Average
:gs/caterpie:

2. Magnificent Muks - 2.00 Average
:gs/muk:

T-3. Lovesick Ledians - 3.67 Average
:gs/ledian:

T-3. Amp Plains Zapdos - 3.67 Average
:gs/zapdos:

4. Royal Raikous - 4.00 Average
