Gyarados FTW (please help me out)

This set was built around gyarados (who just so happens to be my favorite pokemon). The point was to set up entry hazards and other helpful things so that gyarados could effectivly sweep.

Heatran
Shuca Berry Timid
Moveset
~ Stealth Rock
~ Fire Blast
~ Earth Power
~ Explosion
252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Typical leadtran set. Very reliable in setting up rocks which help gyarados and scizor later in the game. Stealth rock is obvious on the set. Fire blast is for a huge STAB attack and also useful late game against opposing scizor especially but also other steel types. Earth power for coverage and explosion for BOOM!
---
Swampert
Leftovers Impish
Moveset
~ Earthquake
~ Roar
~ Rest
~ Sleep Talk
240 HP / 52 Atk / 216 Def

This Swampert is very effective on the team. After some testing the ability to phaze pokemon out with all of the hazards that are out is nice. The damage really builds up and allows a sweep to happen much easier. Earthquake is swampert's strongest STAB attack and has decent coverage. Roar is for phazing and rest + sleep talk allows swamp to last longer but not be set up fodder.
---
Roserade
Leftovers Natural Cure Calm
Moveset
spikes
toxic spikes
grass knot
rest
252hp 120def 136spdef

This roserade set is designed to do it's job and do it well. I really only need it to set up both spikes (as many layers as possible). Come in on a special attacker and start to set up. Grass knot for some coverage and rest is nice with natural cure.
---
Gengar
Life Orb Timid
Moveset
~ Substitute
~ Pain Split
~ Shadow Ball
~ Focus Blast
4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

So I was thinking that with all the hazards I'll have down I need to have a spin blocker. None of the rotom forms or duskinoir could do wat I wanted so I went with gengar. I needed to be able to also hit the opposing teams rapid spinner hard enough to take it out. Gengar handles one of the most prevalent spinners in OU which is starmie. Substitute is used to ease prediction and avoid the guess work required when facing tyranitar or scizor. Shadow ball for obvious STAB. Focus Blast for the easy KO on ttar and HP (fire) to take out scizor. Pain split allows me to heal myself and also deal with blissey.
---
Scizor
Choice Band Technician Adamant
Moveset
~ U-turn
~ Bullet Punch
~ Superpower
~ Pursuit
248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe

Easily one of the most potent pokemon in today's metagame. 519 attack is a force to be reckoned with ecpecially when scizor is constantly firing off STAB bullet punches and u-turns all day long. Superpower is for hard hits on magnezone and other scizor who give gyarados some trouble. Scizor is mostly a revenge killer/ scouter
---
Gyarados
Leftovers Adamant
Moveset EVs
~ Dragon Dance
~ Taunt
~ Waterfall
~ Bounce
156 HP / 72 Atk / 96 Def / 184 Spe

The star of the team. Everything else leads up to his sweep. Obviously there are other pokemon on the team that can do some damage but gyarados is the pokemon I rely on. The bulky *DD set is probs my favorite just because of the combo of offense and defense. Come in after hazards are set and cresselia has set it's screens. The proceed to DD on something you resist. After that waterfall is the primary attack but bounce can be used for lefties abuse.

I'm not changing any pokemon but some moves can be changed. Other small changes will be considered.

Hey. You don't need Taunt on Heatran, so how about freeing up that slot for HP Grass, Substitude or Explosion?

Heatran @ Leftovers/Life Orb
Timid nature/Naive nature
EVs: 4 HP/252 Sp. Atk/252 Spe
-Fire Blast
-Earth Power
-Substitude/HP Grass/Explosion
-Stealth Rock

This set gives you more coverage, and since Heatran doesn't need taunt, you can choose to use Substitude to ease prediction, Hidden Power Grass mainly for Swamperts, or Explosion who can really screw up Blissey. If you are going for Explosion, go for Naive nature and if you don't use Explosion, use Timid nature. Choose Leftovers if you prefer to live longer, or Life Orb if you want to hit harder, but Life Orb and Substitude means you will be losing health fairly quick.

Good luck!

pretty cool team you got there.

Roserade: I can't see this setting up both kinds of spikes. I would recommend Sleep powder over spikes, and Leaf Storm over energy ball. I would also recommend changing Hidden power ice to Hidden Power Fire.

Cresselia: It looks good to me, however, I would suggest Ice beam over Psychic Because it will help you more against the dragon types.

Heatran: I would suggest Explosion over taunt, with a Naive nature.

Gengar:I don't really see why you have Hidden power fire, because Scizor iss'nt really a threat to your team. I would suggest Thunderbolt over HP fire, and change your item to Life orb.

Scizor: looks good to me, But you could try the baton pass set, so that Gyarados would have a easier time at sweeping.

Gyarados:I would suggest the Life Orb set of Dragon Dance/Waterfall/Earthquake/Stone Edge with a Jolly nature and a Ev set of 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe.

Good luck with the team!

You know you're limiting yourself by saying that you're not swapping any members, right?

Alright, currently Roserade isn't an effective lead in this metagame for your purpose. You want Gyarados to sweep? Okay, that's an admirable goal- Wait a minute, what you doing? Toxic Spikes? TOXIC SPIKES?

You're supporting a Pokemon that doesn't exist on your team- Empoleon. Empoleon is the only offensive sweeper that I can get off the top my head who I can say with finality that would love Toxic Spikes since it enables it to deal with Blissey and Vaporeon with far better ease than normal.

Gyarados does not appreciate Toxic Spikes- You've gotten who you're supporting mixed up. Gyarados only needs Spikes... And I can't think of anything off the top of my head of who Gyara would OHKO after Spikes damage and a Dragon Dance. Maybe Hippowdon?

Hmm, I guess Hippowdon. (But who switches Hippo into Gyara?)

If you answer bulky waters get screwed over by Toxic Spikes, I'll concur. But if they bring out said bulky water right after you reveal Gyara, then that point is moot; Toxic Spikes takes time for it's effects to be felt. With DD Gyara, you have to kill stuff ASAP.

Gengar doesn't handle Starmie. If it ever did I'll have to make sure I'm not dead. Starmie in this metagame almost always run enough speed to outspeed Gengar so I think you better change that (If you get under a sub, wonderful, but the way you're talking is very suggestive that you're going to switch into it........ And nothing on this team actually takes LO Starmie's attacks very well bar Cresselia).

1) Replace Roserade with another offensive Spiker- Or, move Heatran into the lead position, and make Roserade the Spiker set from Smogon. Making Roserade more defensive will also let you deal with Starmie slightly easier.

2) Replace Psychic with Ice Beam on Cressy. Stallbreaker Gliscor is one of the most common Taunters there are in this metagame, and you want to at least drive it out as it Taunts or KO it outright... And what in the world are those 68 speed EVs for? Shove them into defense.

Hello. Responding to a request for a rate. Although I also question how much use Toxic Spikes are to Gyarados, it is clear that you have built your team with them in mind, so I will not suggest removing them.

Your lead roserade is not a very effective lead unfortunately. Roserade relies on sleep powder (75% accuracy isn't that bad) to buy the time it needs to set up toxic spikes. Since you cannot have both spikes and sleep powder, I would change spikes to Sleep powder if you choose to keep Roserade in the lead position. There is, however, another option; Dual Spiking Roserade is actually reasonaly effective outside of the lead position with a specially defensive spread. Roserade can rely on good special defense and natural cure to set up on almost any special attacker. I would suggest spikes/toxic spikes/grass knot/rest, Calm, Leftovers, 252hp 120def 136spdef. This will at least manage to set up a couple of layers of either hazard; the ability to choose based on the opponents team is useful. Your Heatran could easily slot into the lead position, perhaps with Explosion over HP grass.

I very much question the use of Cresselia on your team; your team is quite bulky in general, and your main sweeper can set up in the face of many opponents. However, Gyarados still dies to a large number of electric moves even when behind screens, and so isn't the best candidate. Cresselia herself lacks any offensive presence, and is easily taunted and/or set up on. When looking for a replacement, we should be looking for something that can take advantage of the (Toxic) Spikes provided by Roserade, and perhaps to cover the teams weaknesses, such as to Rock-type moves (for example, a CB Tyranitar spamming Stone Edge would rip your team to shreds). Some sort of Swampert might be good for this - perhaps a RestTalk shuffling version.

I would suggest a couple of changes to your Gengar. The substitute + pain split set is ideal for your team. The set is LO, Timid, 4hp 252spatk 252spe, Shadow Ball/Focus Blast/Subsitute/Pain Split. This thing is incredible with toxic spikes support. It provides a more offensive element with the Life Orb, but also stays alive longer with pain split, allowing it to block rapid spin more effectively. Pain split also allows it to go through Blissey, and to stall out a whole host of defensive threats with toxic spikes.

And, contrary to what others have said, do not change your Gyarados set. A defensive Bounce set best takes advantage of the hazards that you are setting up, and you may need Gyarados to check offensive threats as well.

Good luck.
