[OVERVIEW]

* Intimidate always a strong ability
* One of the few viable setup users
* Pairs well with relevant mons like Alolan Marowak, Muk and Arcanine
* Myriad of options both offensive and defensive
* Becomes a liability in front of common mons like Porygon and Tapu Koko

[SET]
name: Dragon Dance
move 1: Dragon Dance
move 2: Waterfall
move 3: Ice Fang / Earthquake
move 4: Protect
item: Waterium Z / Lum Berry

nature: Jolly
evs: 84 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def/ 4 SDef / 164 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

* Dragon Dance allows Gyarados to outspeed many Pokemon and boosts its damage as well
* Waterfall is the STAB option which can be further boosted by Waterium Z
* Ice Fang hits Garchomp for a OHKO as well as hitting Pokemon such as Tapu Bulu, though weak
* Earthquake allows you to hit Tapu Koko and Xurkitree for OHKOs without using your Z-move.
* +1/+1 Gyara tends to draw in attacks. Protect nullifies these attacks.

Set Details
========

* Speed allows Gyarados to outspeed Tapu Koko and other base 130 Speed mons at +1
* Rest is dumped into bulk, Gyara has a good typing/ability/stats to abuse bulk
* Waterium Z lets Gyarados nuke something at +1 or even without a boost
* Lum Berry protects against status

Usage Tips
========

* Running alongside Pokemon like Alolan Wak helps net Gyara a Dragon Dance.
* Avoid leading with Gyara as common leads like Porygon2 and Tapu Koko stop it flat.
* Functions well as a check to Garchomp.

Team Options
========

* Alolan Marowak
* Alolan Muk
* Arcanine
* Tapu Bulu
* Kartana
* Garchomp

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

*Bulkier sets are viable with Taunt/T-wave
*Earthquake sets can hit Magnezone

Checks and Counters
===================

**Tapu Koko**: Although it can't outspeed at +1, it can prevent setup in the first place with Thunderbolt. Discharge bypasses the common partner: Alolan Marowak

**Porygon2**: takes any attack at +1 and can fire back with super-effective Thunderbolt.

**Gastrodon**: immune to Water attacks with Storm Drain, though can't do much back besides Ice Beam and Toxic stall.

**Magnezone**: Can survive a Waterfall and KO with Thunderbolt or Discharge

**Alolan Raichu**: Outspeeds in Electric Terrain and can OHKO with Thunderbolt or Discharge

**Araquanid**: Can eat a hit easily but can't KO back outright.

I would slash Earthquake behind Ice Fang and make note of how it can OHKO Tapu Koko and Xurkitree at +1 so you don't have to waste your Z-move on them.

Also I would put Garchomp under Team Options as it appreciates Gyarados being able to OHKO other Garchomps and Salamence (doesn't at -1) while Garchomp can freely Earthquake next to it.

Also, I'm not sure what other move besides Hurricane triggers Supersonic Skystrike on Gyarados because it does not have access to Bounce in VGC 17'. I would just remove mention of Flyinium Z altogether.

Rest look good QC 1/2 :]

Yeah my mistake on Bounce. I thought Magikarp learned it through level up for some reason. I've made the other changes though.

Overview
  • Elaborate regarding options. More options in themselves aren't necessarily good unless they allow for something.
    • For example, it therefore easily fits onto teams, opponents have difficulty responding appropriately etc..
  • Its Speed should be mentioned; that it's not as bad as it appears given the options for speed control available.
Set Details
  • Discuss using an Adamant nature to maximise power instead, even if it's to say that it's not really recommended.
Usage Tips
  • You mention to avoid leading Gyarados, but elaborating on a good time to bring it out would be helpful as well.
Team Options
  • You need to actually describe why teammates are good and not just name them.
    • Even if that's just lumping them into a generalisation such as "Electric-type check".
  • Add that Electric-types of your own, like Tapu Koko and Xurkitree, help power through opposing Water-types.
New Set
  • I want you to move the bulky support set out of Other Options and add it here.
Other Options
  • You already mentioned Earthquake on the main set, so there's no need for it to be here as well.
  • Add Stone Edge, Roar, and Choice Band.
Checks and Counters
  • Consolidate all the Electric-types into a single "Electric-type Pokemon" header.
  • Add a header for "Intimidate and Burns" and mention a few examples.
  • Remove Araquanid. Not something I'd consider a check.

Tag me when implemented and I'll give it another look over before stamping.

gonna lock this thread for now because of the bounce magikarp event in a few days drastically changing this pokemon's usage and requiring an entirely different analysis
