How it works
This team is a classic Hail stall with a little added touches. I start with Aboma to start up the hail and will either go to Tran or Tentacruel to set up rocks or Toxic spikes, if a spinner comes out I will go to Rotom. Articuno is used for phazing or stall, and Walrein is end-game stall.

A closer Look

Abomasnow
Abomasnow_is_happy_by_Pokemon_Diamond.png

Nature: Jolly
4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Item: Lefties
Ability: Snow warning
- Leech seed
- Focus punch
- Substitute
- Ice shard
Just a classic Sub-seeder to start off the hail. I usually switch Aboma out and send in something else due to Aboma's massive amount of weaknesses(Better auto-hailer Gen 5? Plz) I usually switch Aboma in on bulky waters and sub up and leech seed or fire off focus punches. Heatran also works well with Aboma which lets me get up rocks easier. Ice shard is to take out mence quickly. I am fairly careful when using Abomasnow due to it dying fom basically a breeze, it usually doesn't do much besides induce hail.

Tentacruel
Tentacruel_claims_Blue_by_BrokenTeapot.jpg

Nature: Calm
252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SpD
Item: Black sludge
Ability: liquid Ooze
-Toxic spikes
-Surf
-Rapid spin
-Blizzard

Cruel is essential to my stall team because it supplies T-spike support and Rapid spin so my Stallrein and Articuno don't get raped by stupid floating stones. Blizzard is here to abuse hail and Surf gets STAB. I try to get Cruel out early to set up. Generally can set up on Tran if it's stuck in a fire attack or any bulky water. Most Pokemon with SP atck that lack and electric attack are easy to set up on.

Rotom-F
rotomfrost.png

252 Def /252 Spa/6 SP def
Nature: bold
Item: lefties
Ability: Levitate

-Thunderbolt
-Blizzard
-Rest
-Sleep talk

Rotom is here as my Spin blocker and counter to many pokemon my hail team can't handle. He will absorb status early game and fires of powerful moves with sleep talk. Fighting types could be a big problem to this team(Mix ape :( ) and Rotom-F provides a defence against me getting creamed by a Mixape. Thunderbolt is to put down Gyarados from setting up on me. Standard spin-blocker.

Gliscor(Changing currently from Heatran)
heatran-legendary-pokemon-artwork.jpg

4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature:Timid
ability: Flash fire
Item:Lefties

-Earth power
-Fire blast
-Substitute
-Stealth rock

This set is a little unconventional, but I needed a poke who could set up Stealth rock and one who could resist many of these teams problems(Scizor) Earth power is for opposing heatrans and other threats. Fire blast is for pesky steels. Substitute is for when my opponent switches out thinking it's scarf-tran. Stealth rock is essential in every team.

Articuno
RealArticuno.jpg

252 HP / 96 Def / 64 SpA / 96 SpD
Nature: Calm
Ability: pressure
item: Lefties

-Roar
-protect
-Roost
-Ice beam

Articuno gets destroyed by stealth rock, so it's important to get rid of it quickly with cruel. I usually bring out Articuno Mid-endgame once I know that Scizor has been neutralized. Protect is to prolong hail stall and Roost is to heal up. Roar is to phaze in order to poison my opponents team and rack up SR damage. Ice beam>Blizzard because it has more PP.

Walrein
080507_walrein.jpg

220 HP / 240 Def / 48 Spe
Nature: bold
Ability: Ice body
Item: Lefties

-Surf
-Substitute
-protect
-roar

I usually wait until the end game to whip out Stallrein. By then hopefully I have got rid of most of Stallrein's threats with Abomasnow, Heatran, and Rotom-F. Surf is so I have a attack, Rest is to regain health as I sleep talk to fire off toxic or use surf. I'm not sure what to use for Walrein's final slot. Toxic is helpful if Cruel doesn't do his job. Roar gives me another phazer, but would work better if I had spike support. Protect lets me stall more and regain more health.
Other Options

- Magnezone: I was considering adding Magnezone to give me a solid steel killer instead of Heatran.

-Skarmory would give me another phazer + spiker(Would be nice) and a pokemon to set up Stealth rock.

-Froslass: Works as a anti-spinner and a spiker. D-bond is also nice
to take down stronger foes. Plus blizzard abuser.

This is my hail team, any advice would be welcome :) Edit:
Added gliscor to the team besides Heatran.

First thing I noticed: since Abomasnow doesn't have any special moves (and IMO blizzard is better; however, ice shard does make it a nice check for Salamence, which you can't really counter), you should switch to a Jolly nature and move the special attack EVs to attack.

You might want to consider having a little more insurance for Tentacruel. He's pretty much your only stop for Infernape and Heatran, so adding Wish support may be helpful.

More insurance against spin blockers could be nice, too. While Heatran is good for absorbing a lot of what the Rotom forms dish out, he will not be killing it anytime soon because the Rotom forms can just simply switch out. Since stealth rock is pretty much detrimental to your team, a pursuit user would be helpful, but it does kinda screw up the whole hail theme. Maybe Weavile? lol.

My 2 cents.

Oops! forgot to change to Jolly and switch attack evs. -_- lol.

Ape and tran could run through my team and I see what you mean with pursuit. I was thinking of adding a spikes user?

I suggest Gliscor over Heatran, with Gliscor, you can deal common threats for hail teams such as Swords Dance Lucario and Choice Scarf Tyranitar.

Gliscor @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Veil | Jolly Nature
EVs: 252 HP | 216 Spe | 40 Def
Moveset: U-Turn | Earthquake | Stealth Rock | Roost

In Walrein is much better with the Substitute set who you can find in smogon, and you can consider in it Brine and Super Fang combo

Gliscor would work decently. I will probably switch it out, but then I have no really strong counter to Scizor. Different set for Wailrein? This one works ok, but I will look at the other one.

Hi and welcome to Smogon!
I am working on a Hail team myself (along with teams for every type of weather lol)
so I am glad to give you assistance.
Firsly the team looks great Much with Machamp being quite common I thought a Gliscor over Heatran would work quite well. It sets up SR jus like Heatran but also gives you insurace against fighting types and can deal with opposing stall teams which get pretty boring when its stall on stall.
Also I would like to recomend the Stalrein set protect, substitute, last 2 moves largly filler as it can stall out the hail for a long time and it can aviod the super effective hits used by Scizr and machamp. With Rest and Sleep talk you have no pretection from super effective hits.
Give tentacruel Leftovers instead of Black sludge since if you get tricked your opponient can trick Black Sludge back onto a pokemon like Wallrein or Articunio which can be an issue as you lose your leftovers and take damage.

lastly It wight be worth trying a SubRoost set with a Zapdos over Aritcuno since Zapdos takes much less from Stealth Rock and you can abuse toxic spikes more often.

Have a Nice Day!

EDIT; Largely Beaten, man is it just me or when I rate, I always get beaten lol

Thank you! I'm changing Walrein to it's classic set. Gliscor will also replace Tran. I'm not so sure on replacing Articuno though because it doesn't take damage from Hail like Zapdos and is a stronger special tank.

hey just saying for your stallrein super fang might be a decent option over surf, since anything it hits will lose half its hp (barring ghosts), thus speeding up the stall process (lol)

For stallrien I seriously suggest a moveset like:
- Substitute
- Protect
- Supperfang
- Brine/roar/toxic

substitute and protect combined with walrein ability and toxic spikes make him one of the hardest pokemon to KO in the game. By simply alternating between protect and substitute you allow 32 turns of hail, wich ko's 2 pokemon apparantly. Toxic spikes speeds this process up. Superfang is a new hgss move which halves oponents health, toxic spikes/hail will bring them bellow half and with superfang he can now ko 4 pokes just via stalling. Then if you combine brine as it has double power when the oponent is bellow 50% hp, combined with superfang in theory its a deadly combo. Roar prevents pokemon with recovery setting up on you, although superfang + brine may deal with them, and it means you can beat all common taunters including gyrados without stone edge. This is a beast!

While articuno may seem good with protect, it's only an extra turn of hail and will become predictable, but heal bell could have lots of use, mainly by removing status from your team, it also wakes up rotom and walrein if he is asleep. Or toxic, as this allows you to poisen flying types that avoid toxic spikes.

But tbh, I would swap articuno for a wish/recover, calm mind, roar, dragon pulse latias, as latias is also very bulky, and you don't need to be imune to hail to hail stall as latias proves very effectively and latias can heal your team with wish. Dragonite could also be used as you have a rapid spinner if you fear pursuit on latias.

I didn't know it could learn that..........Maybe. I will try it out.

I like those ideas. I'm going to switch my Walrein to that and switch to Latias. Thank you :)

Hello

As a Hail user myself, I have a couple of suggestions for you.
First of all I will suggest an alternative EV's spread for your Stallrein. A spread of 224 HP, 216 Def, 48 SDef, 20 Spe with a Modest nature would be optimal. Since you are not relaying a entry hazards to deal damage to opposing pokemon, you should use Super Fang on him, preferably over Roar. I suggest Brine over Surf on Wallrein as well, as after Superfang Brine will get a base power of 130, letting it outdamage Surf (BP of 95). The given EV's allows Wallrein to outspeed 8 Spe Scizor so it can outstall Superpower.

I see no reason at all why your Abomasnow should be Jolly with max Speed. I think you will be better of with maximizing your Special Defence and HP so you can the attacks from bulky waters better. Sassy nature.

If you have problems with Steel types (now you have replaced Heatran) you could the Heat form of Rotom.

Hope this helped and good luck with the team!
