Hanging in the Dreamyard

Hey Smogon. I haven't posted here for a looooooong time. :>

I've recently taken a liking to the Dream World tier. I've enjoyed battling in the tier. I've had more fun laddering in it when compared to OU, and there's a lot of stuff I enjoy using it in, like Keldeo, Breloom and Genesect.

This is my team. Its more of a bulky offense team/semi stall team featuring my favorite sweeper in the tier: SubSalac Garchomp. With proper team support and all Steel-types removed, a sweep is incredibly easy with it.

On paper, my team seems pretty solid. I tried to make sure that I had an answer for everything in the tier, although some Pokemon are more threatening than others. That said, I'm still incredibly new to the tier, which is why I'm making this RMT. I've talked for long enough, so let's go.

Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge
- Flamethrower
- Stealth Rock

Tyranitar is the number one used Pokemon in the tier for some very good reasons. It's incredibly bulky on the special side (Leftovers Starmie Hydro Pump did about 46% in sandstorm), it supports and it sets up weather which helps Garchomp, and it, most importantly, counters close to all Chandelure variants. Even without any attack investment, Pursuit OHKOs any fleeing Chandelure, eliminating it as a threat. Stone Edge is the other STAB move and works well against the rare sun teams, as well as Earthquake-less Dragonite and Salamence. Flamethrower is for Ferrothorn and Skarmory, two potent counters to Garchomp. Finally, Stealth Rock is the most insane move ever. Hazard support makes a Garchomp sweep easier, which is awesome. Breaking Sturdy and Multiscale is also a large boon for my offensive Pokemon. The EV spread focuses on maximizing Tyranitar's special bulk, making it a solid Tornadus check in a pinch, and Leftovers is a critical item for any bulky Pokemon.

Possible Changes: The moveset can definitely be worked on, because there are lots of options for Tyranitar.

thumb_breloom.jpg

Breloom (F) @ Shed Shell
Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Mach Punch
- Bullet Seed
- Drain Punch

My my, Breloom get quite the buff from the Dream World. Technician Mach Punch takes Scizor's Bullet Punch and buffs it (everything that Steel hits super effectively is hit super effectively by Fighting, and then some more). While it lacks Scizor's U-Turn, and lacks Scizor's awesome typing, Breloom is still an incredible Pokemon. Swords Dance doubles Breloom's attack stat of almost 400, and Breloom's typing makes coming in rather easy. Mach Punch is that awesome priority attack that makes Breloom the amazing Pokemon that it is. Although it seems weak on paper, a Technician boosted Bullet Seed is, on average, Breloom's strongest Grass-type attack. The move also breaks Substitute, which is a unique perk of the multi-hit attacks. Two hits of +2 Bullet Seed and one +2 Mach Punch is enough to knock out standard Latios, and a +2 Mach Punch is enough to OHKO Scarf Genesect. Drain Punch fills the last spot to give Breloom some way of recovering its health. Its a large threat to most rain stall teams, and so the longevity is much appreciated. Shed Shell is the item of choice because getting trapped by Chandelure isn't any fun, and the EVs maximize Breloom's offensive presence.

Possible Changes: A more Bulky spread? Rock Tomb in the last spot to scare non-Scarf Chandelures?

thumb_amoonguss.jpg

Amoonguss (F) @ Shed Shell
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 40 SDef / 4 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Clear Smog

I'll be honest, I never, ever, would've guessed that I'd end up using Amoonguss on any serious team of mine. But if there's a Pokemon on the team that surprised me, it would be Amoonguss. Its much more bulkier than I could've given it credit for. Its an awesome check to any Breloom, as well as any Keldeo. Spore gives it a huge chance to support the team. Shutting down any threat on the opponents team is incredibly handy. Giga Drain gives Amoonguss a reliable STAB attack, as well as a chance to recover HP. Hidden Power Ice is another handy attack in Breloom's arsenal, allowing it to function as a check to the uncommon Landorus, as well as the incredibly common Breloom. Clear Smog + Spore is the best way for my team to check Conkeldurr, and the move has come in handy. I took the EV spread from Princess Bri's team, and I've loved them. Like she (I'm assuming) said in her RMT, the EV spread stops any +1 Keldeo from 2HKOing Amoonguss with HP Ice, and the spread also helps against Spore wars (haha, that's funny :P). Like with Breloom, Shed Shell is the item due to Chandelure stopping Amoonguss, and Amoonguss really likes switching out of battle. This Pokemon is so underrated, yet so full of awesome. Try it out, I don't think it'll disappoint you.

Possible Changes: A different Hidden Power type (Fire?)? A specially bulky spread?

thumb_heatran.jpg

Heatran (F) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 152 HP / 48 Def / 248 SDef / 60 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Lava Plume
- Earth Power
- Toxic
- Roar

With Amoonguss, Heatran forms my defensive core. Together, the two resist every type except for Ground and Rock. Specially Defensive Heatran plays a similar role in DW as it does in OU; check the majority of sun teams while tanking hits like a boss, especially against Genesect. Although I run Air Balloon instead of Leftovers, a free turn is a free turn, and Air Balloon gives me free turns. Lava Plume is the main offense on Heatran, and the 30% burn chance is excellent on the Pokemon that is my main Outrage absorber. Earth Power + Air Balloon = I never lose Earth Power wars against other Heatran, and Ground-type moves offer too good of coverage to pass up. Without Earth Power, I'd be helpless against opposing Heatran, which isn't good. Toxic cripples Pokemon wanting to come in on Heatran, like Latios and Volcarona. Roar stops anything that wants to use Heatran as set up fodder, including the Outrage spammers that Heatran has to wall. I took the EV spread from Conduit's team, and I'm really enjoying it. The extra bulk for Outrages goes a long way on my team and outspeeding CB Scizor is a large advantage for Heatran's support on my team.

Possible Changes: Yeah, I have no ideas.

genesect___savior_of_bugs_by_arkeis_pokemon-d45kwpb.jpg

yeah, PLDH isn't cool enough to have a Genesect picture

Genesect @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Download
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
- U-turn
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Flamethrower

One of the best revenge killers in the DW; Genesect offers an incredible amount of momentum that its ridiculous. Its coverage is fantastic, its typing is awesome and its stats are excellent. The only flaw Genesect has is its base 99 speed, which is incredibly trollish. I've loved using this Pokemon, probably because I use VoltTurn a lot in OU. A download boosted U-Turn is nothing to laugh at, even though the special attacks tend to hurt a lot more. Until Chandelure goes down, Genesect spends most of its time popping in and out, getting damage here and there and putting me in favorable positions. Thunderbolt and Ice Beam give amazing coverage, and although Genesect isn't awesome at tanking its, if it can survive an Outrage, there will be a dead Dragon on the opponents side. Thunderbolt is mostly crucial for Manaphy, but it also does a lot to Specs Keldeo and Tornadus. Flamethrower isn't used a whole lot, but its great for catching any Skarmory wanting to absorb the U-Turn.

Possible Changes: Bug Buzz > Flamethrower?

thumb_garchomp.jpg

Garchomp (F) @ Salac Berry
Trait: Sand Veil
EVs: 188 HP / 68 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw

Saying that Garchomp eats children is an understatement; it also eats their parents as well :P. SubSalac Chomp is, in my opinion, the best sweeper in the DW metagame. At 25% HP, you'll probably have a Pokemon with +2 Attack and +1 Speed, and its already in a trollish Speed tier to begin with. 108 base HP makes Garchomp more bulky than I think most people realize. The base HP give Garchomp access to 101 HP Substitutes, letting it set up on Pokemon that rely on Seismic Toss or Night Shade as their offense. Sand Veil is a beyond stupid ability that can win me games that I don't deserve, but, as I implied, it's saved me countless times. Swords Dance doubles Garchomp's excellent attack and transforms it into a village uprooter (oh wait, it already is). Earthquake and Dragon Claw make full use of Garchomp's excellent offensive typing, letting it eliminate grounded Steels that want it to tank hits. Also, Substitute stops Ditto from trolling my team (+2/+1 ScarfChomp sweeping my team would be hilarious though :P). Salac Berry is the item I've chosen to run on Garchomp, and it frequently stops any attempts at revenge killing Garchomp, due to the speed boost (ohai, I'm as fast as ScarfChomp 'cept I can change my moves and have a Swords Dance under my belt. GG.)

Possible Changes: The EV spread hits 405 HP, which leave Garchomp with 4 Substitutes and one extra HP. I don't know if that's effective or not though.

So yeah, there is my team. As it is right now, the most threatening Pokemon are Starmie (Genesect can revenge, but can't switch in) Garchomp (Genesect can revenge if it catches it outside Substitute, but Salac Chomp flat out kills my team), Infernape (requires Garchomp to take a hit and beat it. Biiiiig thread) and Conkeldurr (only if Amoonguss is down). Thanks for reading this, and extra thanks if you offer some help. =)
