Hatterene's unique combination of typing, coverage, and Magic Bounce make it a fantastic Pokemon against stall and balance teams. Hatterene can set up Calm Mind against passive Pokemon such as Blissey and Toxapex. It is also a fantastic switch-in against entry hazard setters such as Ferrothorn and Skarmory because of Magic Bounce, making it a great options on balance teams lacking other means of entry hazard removal. Psyshock is a powerful STAB attack, 2HKOing Toxapex and Blissey at +1 and letting Hatterene win potential set up wars against other Calm Mind sweepers such as Clefable. Psychic is still a decent option to deal much higher damage to Unaware Quagsire, but makes it more difficult for Hatterene to defeat other Calm Mind sweepers. Draining Kiss acts as psuedo recovery and can OHKO Dark-types such as Hydreigon and Urshifu-S. It is particularly useful against Blissey, as after 2 Calm Mind boosts, Hatterene can completely heal from Blissey's Seismic Toss damage with Draining Kiss and Leftovers recovery. Mystical Fire rounds off Hatterene's coverage, dealing high damage to Steel-types such as Ferrothorn, Corviknight, and Excadrill. It also has the added benefit of lowering the opponent's Special Attack by one stage, which is useful against other potential switch-ins such as Clefable. 52 Speed EVs allow Hatterene to outspeed Toxapex and hit it with Psyshock before it has a chance to Haze away Hatterene's Calm Mind boost.

Hatterene fits best on balance and offensive teams that need a deterrent to entry hazards or a Stallbreaker. Despite possessing Fire-type coverage, Hatterene still struggles against Steel-types such as Aegislash, Scizor, and Excadrill. Volcarona and Defensive Kommo-o can check Scizor and Aegislash, while Skarmory and Corviknight can counter Scizor and Excadrill. All the aforementioned Pokemon also appreciate Hatterene's ability to deflect status. Rillaboom can check Excadrill, lure and cripple Aegislash and Scizor with Knock Off, and provides additional passive recovery to Hatterene via Grassy Surge. If paired with Rillaboom, then Hatterene can opt to use Grassy Seed instead of Leftovers, making it more difficult for physical attackers to revenge kill it. Other Knock Off users, such as Clefable and Ferrothorn can also remove opposing Steel-types items, making it easier for Hatterene to break through them. Hatterene is able force many switches thanks to its wide array of coverage, so it pairs well with Spikes setters such as Skarmory and Ferrothorn. Hatterene's special bulk is quite poor before setting up Calm Mind, giving it difficult 1v1 matchups against strong special attackers such as Volcarona and Kyurem. Pokemon that can check them, such as Tyranitar and Toxapex are thus strong allies.

Hatterene's unique combination of typing, coverage, and Magic Bounce make it a fantastic Pokemon against stall and balance teams. Hatterene can switch into Toxapex and Blissey, deflect Toxic with Magic Bounce, and either set up Calm Mind or directly threatening them with Psyshock. This doesn't reflect the sequence that Hatterene has to go through against Blissey. You need to set up atleast 2 Calm Minds in order to outheal Seismic Toss with Draining Kiss + Leftovers recovery. This is pretty key to note, because not going through with this often leads towards Hatterene being worn down too quickly and ultimately being overwhelmed by the rest of the opposing team. Magic Bounce also makes Hatterene a fantastic switch-in against many entry hazard setters, such as defensive Kommo-o and Mew. This is true, but neither are Kommo-o or Mew are good examples. Hatterene's access to Magic Bounce is particularly notable because it can bounce entry hazards from Ferrothorn and Skarmory, which often allows the fat balance teams that Hatterene fits on to completely forego more entry hazard removal. Psyshock is a powerful STAB attack, 2HKOing Toxapex and Blissey at +1 and letting Hatterene win potential set up wars against other Calm Mind sweepers such as Clefable. Psychic is still a decent option, letting Hatterene 2HKO Toxapex without any setup, but makes it more difficult for Hatterene to break through Blissey. This misses the mark by quite a bit. You still beat Blissey and Toxapex is not that important of a benchmark considering you will often end up removing its Black Sludge and burning it. Psychic is mainly an option to overwhelm Quagsire. Draining Kiss acts as psuedo recovery and can OHKO Dark-types such as Hydreigon and Urshifu-S. Mystical Fire rounds off Hatterene's coverage, dealing high damage to Steel-types such as Ferrothorn, Scizor Corviknight, and Excadrill. Scizor is not quite as prominent and Corviknight is absolutely a key target. It also has the added benefit of lowering the opponent's Special Attack by one stage, which is useful against other potential switch-ins such as Aegislash and Clefable.

Excadrill is particularly difficult for Hatterene to deal with, as Mold Breaker bypasses Magic Guard, letting Excadrill freely set up Stealth Rock. This isn't relevant information. Volcarona and Defensive Kommo-o can check the aforementioned Steel-types and appreciates Hatterene's ability to deflect status. Both Pokemon mentioned are pretty mediocre checks to Excadrill. Skarmory or Corviknight should be mentioned as actual Excadrill checks. Toxapex may also be worth mentioning as it's perhaps the ebst check to Aegislash and Scizor. Hatterene's special bulk is quite poor before setting up Calm Mind, giving it difficult 1v1 matchups against strong special attackers such as Volcarona and Kyurem. Pokemon that can check them, such as Tyranitar and Toxapex are thus strong allies.

There definitely needs to be an explicit mention of Spikes setters, as it's incredibly powerful with Hatterene, which forces many switches.

I'd like to take another look after this is implemented.

Hatterene's unique combination of typing, coverage, and Magic Bounce make it a fantastic Pokemon against stall and balance teams. Hatterene can switch into Toxapex and Blissey, deflect Toxic with Magic Bounce, set up multiple Calm Minds, and pressure them with Psyshock and Draining Kiss, respectively. I reflected on this a bit and ultimately I don't think that this level of depth is needed for an opening sentence. Just keep it at that Hatterene can take advantage of passive Pokemon like Toxapex and Blissey. How Hatterene should play against Blissey can be mentioned later in this paragraph, probably once you mention Draining Kiss. Hatterene is also a fantastic switch-in against entry hazard setters such as Ferrothorn and Skarmory because of Magic Bounce, making it a great options on balance teams lacking other means of entry hazard removal. Psyshock is a powerful STAB attack, 2HKOing Toxapex and Blissey at +1 and letting Hatterene win potential set up wars against other Calm Mind sweepers such as Clefable. It also has the added benefit of lowering the opponent's Special Attack by one stage, which is useful against other potential switch-ins such as Aegislash and Clefable. Aegislash seems like a bit of an arbitrary Pokemon to mention considering it may just as well fall into the same category as the previously mentioned Steel-types. 52 Speed EVs allow Hatterene to outspeed Toxapex and hit it with Psyshock before it has a chance to Haze away Hatterene's Calm Mind boost.

I'd like to see a mention of Knock Off users like Clefable and Ferrothorn, as they can typically remove the item of Steel-types, which makes them much easier to wear down for Hatterene.
