ORAS OU HauntersNightmare TeamDump1: Charizard Y

Hey all! So I've been lurking the Smogon community from a distance since XY came out, playing Showdown nearly every day on various alts and team building during lectures/at work/whenever I have the time. I am extremely passionate about the community here and I am looking to actually start contributing a bit to it. I have compiled a large number of teams over the past 2 years and now that I am at a point where I am confident in my tournament placing/performance on the ladder I am willing to share some of them with others! With that being said, I will be posting a team today that I consider among my favourite, and fairly representative of my battle style, though I've been playing a lot more offensively lately. I consider myself a fairly good player and all of these teams have laddered to at least 1600. I would, of course, love to make these teams the best that they can be; I would just like to avoid making drastic changes. I will be posting a team every two weeks from now until I run out. Also, this is my first official post on the forum so I apologize for any posting mistakes I may make. With that said, here are the teams:

#1 Death to the Latis!

This team was my favourite for a long time and the first original team I made that I found real success with, peaking at around 1630. It is built around a core of Charizard Y and Keldeo, with Bisharp there to eliminate Charizard and Keldeo's common arch-nemeses; the Lati twins.

garchomp.gif

Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 136 Def / 28 SpA / 96 Spe
Impish Nature

- Dragon Tail

- Earthquake

- Fire Blast

- Stealth Rock

TankChomp is here as the team’s primary physical wall and Stealth Rock setter. Fire blast is there to nail Ferro on the switch and 1HK0 Scizor. Dragon Tail racks up SR damage and punishes non-fairy switchins. The 28 special attack EV’s are there to guarantee the KO on Scizor and the 2HK0 on spD Ferrothorn.

Starmie @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

- Scald

- Psyshock

- Recover

- Rapid Spin

Starmie is here to spin rocks and fish for burns. It also absorbs status and has access to recover. I chose Psyshock>Reflect Type or Ice Beam because killing Lopunny in a pinch (Frustration does about 65%) and having a secondary STAB was important, as Starmie is the fastest member of this team and needs to serve as a revenge killer occasionally.

keldeo-resolute.gif

Keldeo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature

- Scald

- Secret Sword

- Hydro Pump

- Icy Wind

Specs Keldeo is amazing. It checks so many things with its natural bulk while also wallbreaking for Charizard and spreading burns. Set is pretty standard but I chose to keep Icy Wind over any Hidden Powers because I found I always had the wrong one and punishing switches/1HK0ing FatChomp is handy. Keldeo can sweep if it is passed a boost from Celebii, as not much can survive a + 2 Hydro Pump from Keldeo.

Charizard-Mega-Y @ Charizardite Y

Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

- Fire Blast

- Focus Blast

- Solar Beam

- Roost

The star of the team and, in my opinion, one of the finest wallbreakers in the tier. Absolutely wrecks Venusaur, who is otherwise a bit of a problem for this team. Timid>Modest because I can always pass Calm Mind boosts with Celebii and I found speed ties with Manaphy (who reks this team) and other base 100’s to be quite annoying. Also a ton of mons speed creep max speed Modest/Adamant mons, but not many speed creep Jolly/Timid.

celebi.gif

Celebi @ Leftovers

Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 148 Def / 92 SpD / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

- Calm Mind

- Baton Pass

- Giga Drain

- Recover

Celebi serves as the primary Mega Slowbro check, while also handling threats like Excadrill and Mega Metagross. Baton Pass is used the most, but Calm Mind and Giga drain are there to pass boosts and take out passive mons, respectively. Recover+Natural Cure is amazing, and Celebi stops Breloom right in its tracks, who would otherwise have a field day with my team.

bisharp.gif

Bisharp @ Black Glasses
Ability: Defiant
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 40 SpD / 216 Spe
Adamant Nature

- Iron Head

- Knock Off

- Sucker Punch

- Pursuit

Bisharp serves as the team's Fairy check and Lati-destroyer. Latios and Latias are massive threats to my team and in order for it to function, they must be eliminated. 40SpD EV’s lets me survive 2 Latios Draco Meteors and when I was running Assault Vest, it allowed me to survive 2 HP Fires. I’m not sure which item to run for this set. I don’t like running AV on my teams that use Bisharp but on this particular one it works well because this team relies so heavily on the Latis being removed. Anyways, Bisharp does its role well and also punishes/deters defogging.

Threatlist: Latios/Latias, Birdspam, Bulky Zard X, Sandstorm/Rain Teams.

Hey hauntersnightmare, nice Zard Y team. There are a few holes in the team that i have some small fixes to.

For one, Zard X, M-Altaria, M-Manectric (to a small extent), and CM Clefable run rampant versus your team. On top of that, an HP Fire Latios can 2HKO your Bisharp and then force a 50/50 the following turn between Pursuit traping it, or Suckering Punching it. If you Sucker Punch it and it switches, then it gets a free kill the next time it comes in. If you Pursuit as it stays in to HP Fire again, then it gets another kill with Draco. In short, Bisharp isn't good as a sole Pursuit trapper on a Zard Y team that's so Lati weak. You only backup answer to it is Celebi which can't really touch it.

Also, you should try not to have your form of Hazard removal be weak to the same Pokemon as the one you're spinning for. Both Starmie (especially since you're not Analytic or Reflect Type) and Zard Y generally lose to Tyranitar in 1v1 situations, so you shouldn't stack on this weakness. You should instead use a form of hazard removal that can beat Tyranitar.

To fix these problems, and to provide you with something to give you a better matchup versus Stall which you struggle with, I suggest running Choice Band Tyranitar > Pursuit Bisharp, and Sand Rush Excadrill > Bulky Starmie. Since you already have two solid water resists in Keldeo and Celebi, adding these two won't mess with your synergy, plus having Sand on your team is great for resetting Sun turns. Excadrill is also a more consistent and reliable Clefable answer than Bisharp, and CBTar can get a surprise kills versus Chansey with Superpower, and gets off super strong Pursuits on fast electrics and Heatran, all of which is great for supporting Zard Y.

You could also maybe run Toxic > Fire Blast on Garchomp to help limit the amount of times a Hippowdon can switch in on Zard Y to change the weather. You have Specs Keldeo and Zard Y, so Scizor doesn't seem like much of a threat to you.

Tyranitar @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 216 HP / 252 Atk / 40 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge
- Superpower
- Crunch

Excadrill @ Air Balloon
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Iron Head
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin
Not much else to say. CM Pass with Keldeo and Zard Y seems really cool btw.

I hope i was able to help!
