Hazardous Path

Ok, so, now for a little introduction about how I made this team. I'd been using a sand team for most of 5th gen, but wanted to move on. I originally tried using rain, but it didn't really work for me, maybe it's not my style. So, I decide to try hazards, so I made this team!

Teambuilding Process

It wouldn't be a hazards team without Skarmory!

Next I added ferrothorn, because it's awesome and I love it.

Then, as my team was weak to fire, and was in need of a SR layer, I added heatran.

I needed a spin blocker, and I jumped at the chance to use SubDisable Gengar, it's awesome!

Then I added dragonite, as he can phaze and sweep.

Finally I added Tentacruel as he too can lay down hazards, and spin as well.

I replaced Ferrothorn with Latias. Ferrothorn wasn't performing well, and latias's wish passing and phazing abilites are a great addition to the team

The Team in Detail

227.gif

Skarmory @ Leftovers
Sturdy
Impish
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 Sp.Def
Moves:
--Spikes
--Whilwind
--Roost
--Brave Bird

Nothing much to say here, you all know the set. Hazards, phazing, recovery. I've gone with max defence, so I can wall the hell out of most phsyical attackers and set up hazards. Special Attacks are absorbed by heatran, who is specially defensive

380.gif

Latias @ Leftovers
Levitate
Bold
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 Speed
Moves:
--Calm Mind
--Roar
--Wish
--Dragon Pulse

Latias is on the team, mainly, to provide wish pass support, which is especially useful with Dnite. It's the normal set (but with recover replaced with wish) so that it can set up with calm mind, sweep and phaze too.

485.gif

Heatran @ Leftovers
Flash Fire
Calm
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Sp.Def, 4 Def
Moves:
--Substitute
--Roar
--Steath Rock
--Lava Plume

SubRoar heatran has proved very useful for me on this team. He absorbs a lot of special attacks, has some good resistances, subs on the switch, lays down SR and phazes. Lava plume is there to make use of flash fire and prevent from being taunt bait, the high burn chance is nice too.

094.gif

Gengar @ Black Sludge
Levitate
Timid
EVs: 252 Sp.Atk, 252 Speed, 4 HP
Moves:
--Substitute
--Disable
--Shadow Ball
--Focus Blast

SubDisable Gengar is one of my favourite pokemon for competitive usage. Thanks to disable, it can counter a lot more things than it could without it. He also acts as the spin-blocker for my team. The set is standard, so there's little to explain here.

149.gif

Dragonite @ Lum Berry
Multiscale
Jolly
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Att / 252 Speed
Moves:
--Dragon Dance
--Earthquake
--Fire Punch
--Dragon Claw

I opted, thanks to AntiMetagame's suggestion, to switch to an offensive Dragonite set. The Phazer/Sweeper Hybrid is probably not as effective as a dedicated set. DD + Dragon Claw are the main sweeper's tools here, I've gone with Dragon Claw over Outrage as I hope all the hazards will make up for the drop in power. Earthquake and Fire Punch are coverage. I'm thinking of putting extremespeed in there though....

073.gif

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Rain Dish
Bold
EVs: 252 HP, 212 Def, 44 Speed
Moves:
--Toxic Spikes
--Rapid Spin
--Scald
--Protect

Last but not least, is tentacruel. It T-spikes, removes hazards (including those nasty rocks that hurt poor Dragonite) and can wall quite effectively too. Scald is for the odd burn/not being taunt bait. The 44 speed EVs are to outspeed common threats, and often allow it to get another layer of T-spikes down before being taunted, that kind of thing.

Well, that's it! Thanks for reading, all comments and critism are appreciated!

Offensive Threats

I've adapted a code here. Any threats that aren't threatening are left as in black, and ones I consider a problem are highlighted, from green to yellow to red. Green being not that serious, red being a high threat

Offensive / Bulky Dragon Dance - Rather annoying, but its weakness too SR and Latias means it's not too much of a problem

Calm Mind - Annoying, but this is a hazards team, so you can imagine why. However, if I can predict right, Dragonite can use it to set up.
Hydreigon:

Offensive - A minor threat, depends on the moveset, but usually tentacruel can absorb hits. Its immunity to spikes and T-spikes makes it more annoying

Choice Specs / Choice Scarf - You should have gathered by now that choice users are no problem
Breloom:

Sub Seed - Substitute Says Hi!

Sub Punch - As long as Gengar is alive, this thing is a piece of cake to deal with
Latias:

Calm Mind - Walled and phazed by Heatran/Skarmory

Bulk Up - Both sets are easily phazed out and have a hard time dealing with Skarmory
Lucario:

Swords Dance - It's certainly a threat, but I can usually switch in on a CC with Gengar and OHKO. Requires a few boosts to severly dent Skarmory, which is good.

Nasty Plot - Walled and phazed by Latias
Virizion:

Calm Mind - Quite annoying, but hazards do well to stop this thing in its tracks

Swords Dance - Walled by Skarmory
Scrafty:

Dragon Dance -

Bulk Up - Both are phazed out easily and have a hard time dealing with Skarmory
Venusaur:

Special Growth - Walled by Heatran

Mixed Growth - The only threatening venasaur, since EQ eliminates Heatran, however, Dragonite and Latias can still wall it quite effectively.

SubSeed - Substitute, once again, says hi
Metagross:

Stealth Rock -

Choice Scarf / Choice Band -

Agility - All are walled by Skarmory
Mienshao:

All-Out Attacker - Psycho Cut switched into Gengar, the foe's meinshao used HJK.... Yeah, it's no problem

Choice Scarf / Choice Band - C'mon, you should know this by now
Cloyster:

Shell Smash - A reasonable threat, Skarmory can take a +2 Icicle Spear and then phaze, but it'll take heavy damage
Mamoswine:

Physical Attacker - Walled to the furthest corners of the Earth by Skarmory
Darmanitan:

Choice Scarf - No problem, as you'd guess.
Tornadus:

Rain Abuser - Tends to be walled by Latias or Tentacruel, and its weakness to stealth rock helps lessen the threat it poses
So if i get it right the plan is to set up layers of spikes and put stealth rocks up.
This is a decent idea and the pokemon you chose support eachother very well.

Only downside is that if the oponent has taunt this team has nothing to offer anymore.
Your only pokemon who could 'sweep' a bit then is gengar and if he doesnt get up the sub he is pretty much a goner.

What you could do to change this is go for a bit more offensive dragonite set maybe.
Also you have toxic spikes and normal spikes on this team. Wich is ok but , personally i always preffered 3 layers of spikes instead of 2 toxic spikes and a normal layer.
Defenatly because half of the time you will be phazing out , so toxic wont even stack up nicely.
So you could get another spinner for the team , or even go without spinner and take a magic bounce espion or something . A nice spinner would be donphan , as he gets the ice shard. A friend of me went with a 252 att , 128 hp 124 def set , wich together with a life orb kills of ALOT of dragons with ice shard.

So to sum it up , more offensive dragonite , and tentacruel could be replaced if you like.

Hope this helped :)

Looks like a semi stall team, great job! You're very weak to any of those rare Balloon trans that run Fire Blast / Earth Power / Hidden Power Ice / Dragon Pulse. We'll get to that later.

To be honest, your nite puts two sets together - a phazer and a set-up sweeper. From the looks of it, you probably want to just stick with one set. I'd recommend the standard set that everyone and their grandmother are running right now. Its very effective in today's metagame:
Dragonite @ Lum Berry
Multiscale
4 Def / 252 Att / 252 Spe
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage / Dragon Claw
- Fire Punch
- Earthquake
This set works well, and plays on your team's strengths. nite appreciates the hazard support as well.

For tran, I'd put Toxic, Protect, or Earth Power on him in place of substitute. There's not much you can get out of a sub with only 1 move. tran is much better off actually doing work killing any other non SpD tran after taking about 75%ish from other trans. Toxic is a nice way to get those flying types and whatnot on the switch. Protect lets you scout choiced users and respond accordingly.

In a nutshell:
Try Offensive DD nite over your DD phazer hybrid
Try Toxic, Protect, or Earth Power over Substitute on your tran

I ssee you have reuniclus problems with this team. You need to do some prediction to defeat but that is always risky and this tactic does not defeat reuniclus as it can switch in and out again with magic guard. I suggest bulky scizor to counter reuniclus, when it switches in and can do some easy roost stall as well as scaring it out with bug bite.

Also life orb nidoking is a major threat as a late game sweeper. With stealth rock/spikes supports it can OHKO dragonite, OHKO tentacruel, OHKO heatran, OHKO gengar, OHKO skarmory and OHKO Latias. I suggest switching tentacruel to rotom-w or gastrodon i need to go so i will elaborate later.

Ok thanks for the idea, it's true that Dnite doesn't perform as effectively as I'd like sometimes. I think I'll opt for Dragon Claw, as I reckon all the hazards will make up for the drop in power.

Try Toxic, Protect, or Earth Power over Substitute on your tran
Nah, substitute has proved extreemely useful, I reckon I'll keep it

True, Reuniclus is a problem, but offensive Dragonite is a much more promising prospect than Scizor atm.

But Gastrodon/Rotom-W can neither spin nor lay hazards.

hmm, i dunno about Earthquake on Dragonite, most pokemon who are weak to Earthquake like Heatran tend to pack air balloons more times than not.

Wouldn't Brick Break be a good viable choice as well?

Hmmm... Maybe over fire punch, because that could hit possible balloon steels, but I find Earthquake's coverage and natural high BP omes in much more useful than Brick Break.
