Heatran is a mainstay on Steel teams due to its ability, Flash Fire, letting it switch into threats like Blacephalon, Victini, and Iron Moth. Lava Plume makes Heatran annoying to switch into thanks to its burn chance, while Magma Storm softens walls like Toxapex and Rotom-W by trapping them. Earth Power threatens Poison- and Fire-types and makes Heatran an important asset against opposing Steel teams by hitting opposing Heatran. Roar lets Heatran phaze the likes of Nasty Plot Hydreigon and Z-Celebrate Victini and synergizes well with Stealth Rock to deal extra damage. Alternatively, Toxic cripples walls like Mantine and Rotom-W, as well as Pokemon that fancy switching into Heatran such as Volcarona and Mega Charizard Y. Substitute pairs well with Toxic (RC) and allows Heatran to be massively annoying against types like Steel, Electric, and Psychic by capitalizing on the many switches it forces in these matchups. Thanks to their typing and bulk, Corviknight and Celesteela are excellent teammates to check Ground- and Fighting-types like Mamoswine and Great Tusk for Heatran. Setup sweepers like Kingambit, Mega Scizor, and Jirachi appreciate Heatran wearing down teams with burn and Toxic. Iron Treads removes entry hazards with Rapid Spin and deals with Mega Charizard Y, Zeraora, and Cinderace with its Choice Scarf set. Ferrothorn checks Water-types like Mega Swampert and Urshifu-R and aids Heatran with Spikes and Leech Seed.

Due to it's much-needed ability, plethora of utility options, and commendable bulk, Heatran is a main-stay on Steel teams threatening Fire-types like Iron Moth, Victini, and Blacephalon. (just sell Flash fire and nothing else on this sentence Imo. Retain the mention of the fire types though) Lava Plume allows Heatran to burn walls such as Toxapex and Celesteela, negating their recovery items (its more so of making Heatran too annoying to switch into, celes doesnt want to swap into catran, its the other way around. Neutrering Glowking's Eq if Lava plume burns is also huge for it. This is also preferred if using sub) while Magma Storm traps Toxapex and Galarian Slowking to wear them down with Earth Power as well as Skeledirge (cant trap Ghost types), Zapdos, and Latias (these two Pokemon never come into catran) to cripple them with Toxic. Earth Power threatens the aforementioned Poison- and Fire-types and makes Heatran a really important asset in the Steel mirror matchup by hitting opposing Heatran. Roar lets Heatran phaze out Hydreigon attempting to setup a Substitute in front of it (more on shuffling opposing teams because usually people just swap out in response to catran, and with Spikes and SR, it becomes really damaging >:3) and Toxic is used to cripple Mantine, Rotom-W, and Volcarona (also preferred if using Sub). Stealth Rock may be used to bring out Roar's full effectiveness and ease the Fire matchup while Substitute wreaks havoc against Steel (its also great in matchups like Grass, Ice, Electric, and Poison [maybe] as you evade leech, take advantage of mons choice locked into wrong moves) . 4 Speed EVs allows Heatran to outpace opposing Heatran. Aegislash is a great teammate due to it's Fighting-type immunity, check threats like Iron Valiant, Terrakion, and Galarian Zapdos. (add Gholdengo, as denying entry hazard removal is great. Aegis isnt that nice nowadays) Corviknight's Ground-type immunity is heavily appreciated, as it checks Mamoswine, Garchomp, and Great Tusk (Add celes). Kingambit is heavily valurd (valued) because it wears down Blissey, Clodsire, and Slowking (It doesnt....wear down. Its more of a cleaner that aims to sweepy after you burned/Toxic'ed them all with Heatran. Mention Sweepers like M.Sciz and Happy Rachi alongside this line imo) . Iron Treads removes entry hazards with Rapid Spin and aids against opposing Heatran.

Heatran is a main-stay on Steel teams due to it's ability Flash Fire, threatening Fire-types (doesnt threaten due to ability, it lets Catran come in on predicted fire move and take it from there) like Iron Moth (place moth after Blace), Victini, and Blacephalon. Lava Plume makes Heatran annoying to switch into as it can potentially burn threats such as Toxapex and Galarian Slowking, weakening it's Earthquake while Magma Storm traps Toxapex and Galarian Slowking to wear them down with Earth Power as well as Rotom-W and Volcarona to hinder them with Toxic.
