I just started playing this game 3 days ago, and I'd like to become better. Let me know your thoughts, as there are obviously points of the metagame and competitive battling I haven't picked up on by lurking

Team at a Glance:

-------------------------------------

Metagross@Lum Berry
[Clear Body]
Adamant (+Atk, -SpA) 252 HP / 252 Atk / 6 Def
- Meteor Mash
- Bullet Punch
- Explosion
- Stealth Rock
Metagross lead. Standard really. Sets up SR. Hits whatever is trying to taunt or trick hard. Explodes when his usefulness is at an end...which is pretty much after he's done leading.
I usually explode on walls...since I don't have any wallbreakers.

Flygon@Choice Band
[Levitate]
Adamant (+Atk, -Spe) 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Fire Punch
- U-turn
A fairly standard Flygon I assume. Although I am often tempted to Scarf him. He scouts along with Scizor and Zapdos, provides my team's only electric immunity (which is important for Gyarados obviously). Since I don't have a spinner, its important that Flygon (and the rest of my team) are either strong to SR or can hover above Spikes/TSpikes. Flygon can do both.
Mid-to-Late game sweeper with Outrage.

Scizor@Life Orb
[Technician]
Adamant (+Atk, - SpA) 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- U-turn
- Swords Dance
Scizor provides another source of scouting, revenge killing (which my team is poor at, and is probably one of the best late game sweepers we have at present. Not much to say as this is an absolutely standard set.

Gyarados@Leftovers
[Intimidate]
Adamant (+Atk, - SpA) 156 HP / 108 Atk / 100 Def / 144 Spe
- Waterfall
- Ice Fang
- Stone Edge
- Dragon Dance
Bulkdos with a Standard Gyarados moveset. There are frequently situations where Gyarados is my only Gyarados check, so having the bulkier Dos often helps. He's pretty much there to rack up damage where he can and scare of threats I don't have a safer switch in to. Probably the only early game threat I actually have.

Heatran@Choice Scarf
[Flash Fire]
Naive (+Spe, -SpD) 6 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power (Ice)
- Explosion
I have a love hate relationship with Heatran. He is a great switch in to things that would otherwise massacre 1/2 of my team (Fire and Ice). But other than that, I rarely find myself using him except to explode. Occasionally he will late-game sweep a few unsuspecting pokemon after I've eliminated their sweepers. But other than that, he's just another bomb really.

Zapdos@Leftovers
[Pressure]
Timid (+Spe, -Atk) 252 HP / 160 SpD / 96 Spe
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power (Ice)
- Roost
- Roar
Zapdos seems to surprisingly be the core of my team. Its my only solid answer to bulky waters (barring switching in Gyarados for the free dance-up), and Roar shuffles their team around enough so that, when combined with Scizor and Flygon's U-turns, I have a solid idea of what I'm facing relatively early on. This is good so I don't wantonly explode Gross and Heatran on poor choices.
Honestly, HP Ice never seems to hit anything hard enough to matter, but at least its there for Gliscor...
