Introduction:
Hi! This is my first OU team in SS, so please don't be too rude with a newbie player (and a weeb) like me. I'm playing competitive since last year, so I'm not that good, and I really want experts tips to improve my team and skills! I don't think I've made a hard and competitive team, I just builder around mons I like, as the best waifu. But let's go into the team!
My distorted idea of team building:
I really wanted to create a team around the supreme waifu: Hatterene-sama. I think it's pretty wrong to build around just one mon, she is not a real "core", but I've tried to found other mons that could help here being useful. First of all, I've tried to cover her weakness to Steel running Toxapex-chan as a possibly switch. Pex-chan also covers Hatte-sama Poison weakness, and that's nice. After that, I thought Tytar-chan could help with Ghost types! Then, we have Hatte-sama, Pex-chan and Tytar-chan as first three. I would like to play also a defogger/rapid spinner, and I think Corvi-san would be a good choice, because of his Poison immunity and he could also be a pivot thanks to U-turn. But Pex-chan and Corvi-san are weak to Electric types, then here come Zera-chan! This cute furry could switch in to cover Corvi-san weakness, and Corvi-san could do the same for incoming EQ. At the end, I would like to run a fast special sweeper, and I opted for Draga-san. He covers well Tytar-chan weakness to Fight type, and hits hard more or less all mons. But let me show you my sets and gameplans.
The team:
Hattewaifu (Hatterene) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Magic Bounce
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Dazzling Gleam
- Giga Drain
- Mystical Fire
The set is not complicated to understand. EVs in HP to make her survive at least one (not super effective) hit, and SpA to kill everyone prefer Gardevoir, Expert Belt for extra damage without losing HP (I don't like Life Orb). Dazzling Gleam and Psychic are just powerful STABs, she can easily OHKO all the dragons in the meta, but she's not so fast, you would predict the switch in, or get one hit and then kill. No need to show calcs, we are max SpA with EB, more than enough!
It's pretty funny using Mystical Fire on Ferrothorn. I like to lead with her against this dude, because Magic Bounce denies the hazards, and Mystical Fire + Expert Belt OHKO Ferro.
Leading with her is also good against a sun team: Torkoal cannot set Stealth Rocks, and if the opponent switches in with Venusaur, Mystical Fire (with sun) OHKO Venusaur.
As you can see, also spamming Psychic on Torkoal is a wise choice, if the opponent switches.
Talking about leading with her, if the opposing mon is Seismitoad, we have a powerful Giga Drain that hits hard the big oaf. He could not set, and if tries to attack the waifu, will be punished.
This cute girl has a lot of SpA that allows her to hit hard all Dark and Fight types as well, you can easily OHKO an AV Conkeldurr, but I suggest you not to be too greedy. Remember: the waifu is fragile, we must protect her. That's why is important to switch with Corvi-san, Pex-chan, and Tytar-chan when you predict a super effective move incoming!
Armored pidgeon (Corviknight) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Iron Head
- Defog
- U-turn
- Roost
A pretty common set: U-turn to switch in a mon you need at the moment, Defog to clean the field if the waifu is already dead (sigh), Roost and Leftovers for longevity and Iron Head for STAB and to do some damage to the annoying Clefable. I preferred to max SpD and HP to make him balanced bulky and resist more or less to all the attacks. This dude is a good choice for stalling a bad situation, or just to gain momentum during the match. No need to show calculations, all we know Corvi-san is a flying wall. Just be careful against special Fire and Electric types. Pex-chan can help you against Fire, and you can help her against Ground moves. You can call it team work, or love, if you prefer. In other cases, Zeraora-chan will absorb the Thunderbolts! Rotom-H, Chandelure, Zeraora, Dragapult and other Fire/Electric moves users are not a problem with your teammates. That's the Nakama power. You can also switch in Draga-san if you're afraid of a Drain Punch/Close Combat.
Cancer-chan♥ (Toxapex) (F) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Infestation
- Toxic
- Recover
- Scald
Here she is, the other star of this team. Pretty normal EVs, but I like her trapping annoying mons thanks to Infestation and finish them with Toxic, you just have to Recover while watching them dying. Nothing special to say, Black Sludge, Regenerator and Recover are for longevity, Scald is a STAB with 30% of burn, if you need to halve someone's attack (I like to burn Steel types like Melmetal, Corviknight and Ferrothorn), and she is the best safe switch when you don't know who should take an hit. With Regenerator, Recover and the most powerful status move on your side, you can pressure your opponent and force him to switch out. Watch out for super effective moves, for Ground you can switch in Corvi-san, for Electric ones in Zera-chan, and for Psychic moves in Tytar-chan!
MommyTytar (Tyranitar) (F) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stone Edge
- Fire Punch
- Foul Play
- Earthquake
That's pretty weird, I know. But, DUDES, 738 IN SPD WITH SAND. She is the perfect special wall, expecially if you have to change mon on a Shadow Ball. Look at this:
This set is crazy, max HP and SpD+ makes you a perfect teammate for the supreme waifu. Sand also helps you against sun and rain teams, it kills Sash leads as Ribombee, Accelgor, Galvantula, Salazzle and so on, and also does cheap damages. Miss Edge is a powerful STAB (if hits), Foul Play over Crunch just because we have only 4 EVs in attack, Fire Punch is nice against Ferro and other Grass or Ice types, and Earthquake to deal some damage against Zeraora, Cinderace, Excadrill, Gengar, Toxtricity, and dudes like this. But the mommy suffers from Fighting moves (Close Combat from Zeraora or Aegislash is OHKO), so your perfect switch in this case is Draga-san, that can do a blind Draco Meteor to punish an eventual switch.
Furry? (Zeraora) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 36 HP / 252 Atk / 220 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Grass Knot
- Plasma Fists
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
As I said before, I don't like Life Orb, that's why Expert Belt >>>
Zera-chan is not that bulky, so don't LO pls. I know the spread is weird, but I thought "I just need to overspeed Dragapult, no reasons to be in tie with other Zeraora, so let's spend our EVs in HP", obv max attack. Plasma Fists is a really powerful STAB, OHKO on (almost) every Water and Flying type, I hope you know that, no need to show calcs. Knock Off for impredictable switches, and Close Combat against eventual Dark, Steel and Rock types (Hydregon and Excadrill are suffering so much here). Grass Knot is principally for Seismitoad and Hippowdon:
Not much to say, if the opponent is going to Volt Switch with Rotom you can go in with this cute furry, you can also absorb Thunderbolt from Specs Dragapult (and punish with Knock Off), or another Plasma Fists. The last one is not suggested, because we are not in speed tie, and you would lose a good physical attacker. Pay attention to the Earthquakes, Zera-chan doesn't like them.
Guddo duragon (Dragapult) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flamethrower
- Draco Meteor
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
Yes, you're reading right, I'm actually playing a Scarf Dragapult. Speed is never enough. Why suffering from Scarf Hydregon, Scarf Kyurem, Specs Dragapult, or Knock Off Zeraora when you could outspeed them? No need to explain that Draco Meteor is OHKO for every mon that is Dragon type, or have a low SpD. Shadowball is just another powerful STAB move for Aegislash, Gengar, Mimikyu, and all not-Dark/Normal types you're preventing they're switching in. Thunderbolt and Flamethrower are for versatility, if you need to hit Corviknight, Keldeo, Gyarados, Toxapex, or Ferrothorn, Excadrill, and so on.
Infiltrator with Scarf also allows you to outspeed Kommo-o with Salac Berry, Substitute and Belly Drum, your opponent would be surprised. You also outspeed Gyarados after Substitute and one Dragon Dance. The mon speaks himself, just need to be on the field at the right moment, try to catch the switch of your opponent with Corvi-san U-turn, and have fun destroying opponent mons.
Conclusion:
Yeah, I have no hazard setter, I don't run Clefable with Teleport and Wish that could give longevity to the team, I have no priority moves. I think that those are the biggest problems of this team. Sometimes it works pretty good, and I won 6-0, sometimes… lol. But I'm here to trying to improve it, so, tell me what would you change!
(I'm not that good in English, so please forgive me eventual mistakes).
