Greetings everyone! A little introduction about myself. I just recently got into competitive singles again after playing VGC for awhile and i immediately went back to the playstyle that i used the last time i played singles: Hyper Offense. However, given that alot has changed, i need every help i can get. Thanks in advance guys!
This is a team trying to center around M-Gyarados. It will be great if u guys can give me some pointers about team building as i think my fundamentals are not there.
Deoxys-Defense @ Mental Herb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 216 HP / 40 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Taunt
- Superpower
Deoxys-D is the standard support for HO teams that set up hazards for my team to rack up residual damage when pokemon switch in. Entry hazards are crucial in a HO team to allow my other team mates to secure OHKOs. Taunt is there so that the opponent will not be able to set up freely on Deoxys. Superpower is there to take on opposing tyranitar, bisharp & other dark types that are common switch ins for Deoxys-D. Mental Herb is selected so i can still at least get a stealth rock up when facing faster taunt and prankster users. The EVs ensure a OHKO on 0hp/ 0 def bisharp i think.
Bisharp @ Black Glasses
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance
Standard Deo-Sharp Core that a HO team will have. Bisharp has excellent synergy with Deoxys-D due to its typing and its ability to take on defoggers( Eg. Latios) with its defiant ability. Black glasses to maximise the damage of knock off and sucker punch as most of the time bisharp will be just spamming sucker punches.
Aegislash @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 HP / 252 SAtk
Quiet Nature
- King's Shield
- Shadow Sneak
- Shadow Ball
- Sacred Sword
Aegislash is then added on to the Deo-Sharp Core to make the core stronger. Its typing allows it to be immune to fighting which synergises well with bisharp. It also function as a spin blocker so as to keep the entry hazards up. Weakness policy is there to maximise aegislash's potential as an attacker. This is because most of the time it is able to survive an Earthquake in shield forme and dish out more damage back after weakness policy is activated.
Now, this is where things start to get confusing for me when i'm choosing team mates. The above Deo-Sharp-Slash Core is very standard for a HO team.
Gyarados @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
Gyarados is a really amazing pokemon with intimidate and mold breaker in its mega forme. Standard DDance gyarados can really sweep unprepared teams. The whole idea was to come in and pressure the opponent and make them switch out. However, opposing mega gyarados, grass knot greninjas, Azumarills & anything faster than a +1 Mega gyarados seems to be giving me some problems.
Dragonite @ Leftovers
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 HP / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Outrage
- Fire Punch
- Dragon Dance
Dragonite was then chosen as my next sweeper as it is immune to ground which aegislash and bisharp is weak to. It also synergises well with bisharp and aegislash based on its typing (Aegislash and bisharp can take ice & dragon attacks for dragonite). Dragonite is my secondary sweeper with fire punch for opposing steels and STAB Outrage. Extremespeed is very useful in cleaning up late game.
Landorus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Earth Power
- Calm Mind
- Focus Blast
Landorus's role is also to act as another ground immunity but it adds on to the ice weakness of my team. Thus, im not very sure on whether should landorus be in this slot. Psychic is very important as it deals with the fighting types that destroys bisharp & M-gyarados. Earth power is STAB and Focus blast for steels and some damage towards chanseys and blissesys.
Thank you for taking the time to read and it will be very appreciated if you guys could give me constructive feedback and advice! It will also be great if u guys can suggest better team mates for M-Gyarados! Thanks alot!
