HERCULOID HEROES!

HERCULOID HEROES

Okay basically I wanted to make a new team for the OU tier and I wanted to try some things that I haven't used before. I settled on Reuniclus because with the right support he can take down a lot of teams really well and the rest of the team ensures he has little trouble doing so. Well I settled on sand being my weather because Reuniclus doesn't take damage from it and he doesn't like taking Rain or Sun attacks. So from there I had Tyranitar and Reuniclus well I wanted a solid core since thats the typical way I go about making teams. I decided I would use Tangrowth for a physical wall because he takes a lot of common sand sweepers on really easily. Next I decided on Gastrodon because with some help it checks common rain members. The final member of the core I settled on was a heatran with WoW he really helps Reuniclus by burning common physical attackers that threaten him. The final member of the team needed to be able to revenge and hold his own at the same time. I settled on Excadrill because not only does he put offensive pressure on the opponent's team he can spin hazards that the rest of the team doesn't like. So heres a more in depth analysis hope you enjoy and rates are appreciated.

Igoo(Tyranitar)@ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 Att/252 Spe/4 HP
-Stone Edge
-Crunch
-Superpower
-Ice Punch

Tyranitar is such a great pokemon. He fills so many good roles and that means he can sometimes get a surprise on the opponent if they're expecting the more common defensive Tar. He checks a ton of annoying pokemon like Thunderus and Tornadus. He can also revenge a weakened virizion though this isn't a big deal because reuniclus takes it on easily. He has good coverage and enough speed to outrun a vast majority of the common pokemon in today's metagame. I don't run pursuit on this because most pokemon will end up staying in anyways to try and get some damage. Stone edge is mandatory STAB and does a lot of damage to anything that doesn't resist it. He also fills the all important role of changing the weather for me so I don't run into trouble with conflicting weathers. The thing I like about this team though I can switch him on leisure because my team doesn't rely on sand to function well. Tar's SS works more as a disruptor since the rest of the team takes on sand pretty easily.

Tundro(Gastrodon)@ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
Nature: Sassy
EVs: 252 HP/252 SpD/4 SpA
-Toxic
-Recover
-Scald
-Earth Power

Gastrodon is an amazing pokemon and checks rain so well. With Storm Drain and max SpD I can laugh at politoed and other common rain special attackers like starmie. I can then proceed to toxic them and stall them with recover. Gastrodon can take on a lot of other special threats too but hes specifically used to check rain teams better and he does a great job of it. Anyways toxicing things on the switch is really good too because it means I can wear the team down easier and makes it much easier to handle things that might threaten me. Dual Stab lets me damage things pretty well and scald means I have a chance to burn steel types trying to come in on a toxic. Burn also helps reuniclus set up and sweep easier. Burn means that tangrowth can wall things even easier as well which is always nice.

Tarra(Heatran)@ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
Nature: Calm
EVs: 252 HP/252 SpD/4 Def
-Lava Plume
-Protect
-Roar
-Stealth Rock

Specially defensive heatran is amazing to say the least. He can switch in on a lot of the special hits that Gastrodon can't. Not only that but he really supports the team well. He lays down Rocks for me which is always welcome on any team. Lava Plume means I get a solid STAB attack that I can use to spread burn around with nicely. Protect means I can scout potential choice users which is always useful. Roar means I can deal with annoying stat boosters that think they can set up on me and is generally useful for shuffling the opponents team around so I can get a better grasp on what they're using.

Gloop(Tangrowth)@ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
Nature: Relaxed
EVs: 252 HP/28 Att/176 Def/52 SpA
-Sleep Powder
-Power Whip
-Earthquake
-Hidden Power[ice]

Tangrowth is a cool pokemon and I really like using him since he's not used as often as you'd think. Anyways He checks physical pokemon really well and if I'm lucky enough to get a burn then he does even better. The EVs are geared to give him a good amount of physical bulk while giving him a bit of a punch to his attacks. With the given EVs hidden power OHKOs Gliscor everytime which is really useful. Power Whip is a solid STAB that does a great amount of damage to anything weak to it. Earthquake is to hit excadrill for the most part but it can hit anything else weak to it as well. Sleep Powder is incredibly useful, it incapacitates an enemy pokemon and with the new sleep mechanic it can lead to something being useless the entire game or being a free switch for one of my other mons to come in and wreck havoc. Tangrowth pairs well to take on a lot of the physical pokemon that Reuniclus can't handle.

Gleep(Reuniclus)@ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SpA
-Calm Mind
-Recover
-Psychic
-Focus Blast

Reuniclus is a super cool pokemon and I made this team for him. He does really well after he sets up and can easily sweep through teams that have been weakened enough for him to easily deal with them. He does so well against stall its ridiculous after I take out the right mons its basically gg for them. Reuniclus pairs really well with Heatran because it burns things for Reun to set up and Reun takes fighting hits well for Heatran. Reun also makes up for me being easy to spike on since he's immune which really helps setting him up. The EVs are geared for max physical bulk since I'm boosting special bulk with Calm Mind anyways Recover is so I can keep Reuniclus alive and well. Psychic is STAB and hits a lot of things hard. Focus Blast pairs well with it for good coverage. Magic Guard is a wonderful ability and it makes him an even more threatening sweeper because of it.

Zandor(Excadrill)@ Air Balloon
Ability: Sand Rush
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 Att/252 Spe/4 HP
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide
-Return
-Rapid Spin

Excadrill is a real life saver and an amazing pokemon in general. My team is fairly easy to spike on and they can really get worn down through that residual damage. This guy is the best spinner in the whole metagame and for good reason, he does a great job. I chose not to run swords dance because it's really not necessary, Excadrill is here to spin and revenge and nothing more is needed from him. Earthquake is great STAB and Rock Slide pairs with it for the infamous EdgeQuake combo. Return helps to revenge pesky pokemon that are weakened such as Rotom-W. Air Balloon is chosen as the item so that he himself doesn't get worn down from the spikes he's spinning. Adamant is for more power though I might run jolly to make sure I at least speed tie with other Excadrills should my balloon pop.

Anyways thats the team rate away. And in case you're wondering about the title and nicknames on the Pokemon they're from an old cartoon that I watched as a kid called Herculoids. It was a great show and a lot of the pokemon on this team remind me of the characters in the show.

Special thanks go out to Skynet and Fried_Rhys for help with team building really appreciate it guys.

Hey man this team really turned out nice and I don't have much to say. The only major weakness I can see is residual damage in general. Ferrothorn and Skarmory both get many opportunities to spike, while two-thirds of your team is weak to spikes while Dragonite is weak to stealth rock. I think I suggested you try Dragonite to help with Volcarona, but it is contributing the least to Reuniclus' sweep so I think it would be the one to go. You also have a tough time against Adamant Life Orb Excadrill. While uncommon, it can KO Tangrowth after stealth rock and then proceed to KO the rest of your team. I'm gonna suggest you try rapid spin Excadrill in place of Dragonite. This keeps Volcarona in check, while also being the most effective spinner in the metagame which is sure to ease your problem with residual damage. It also checks Life Orb Excadrill. Anyway, the set is

Excadrill @ Air Balloon
Adamant | 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Earthquake / Rock Slide / Frustration / Rapid Spin

I don't really see you getting many opportunities to get up a swords dance, and it's primarily a revenge killer/spinner anyway. Frustration is just a nice 102 base power attack if you ever need to revenge things such as Landorus and Rotom-w. Good luck with the team.

Thanks for the rate man, really appreciate it I will definitely make those changes now and again thanks for the help with the team it turned out wonderfully.

Hi

Very cool team with some underrated movesets, so kudos to you.
Anyway, I think I got a couple of suggestions.

I would like to suggest Pursuit on Tyranitar, Sub Calm Mind Latias is a really common poke at this time and it can be very hard to take out. With Pursuit on Ttar you can trap it and take it out. Same thing for opposing weather pokes, kill weakened Ninetales, Politoed and the rare Abomasnow. You can put it over Ice Punch as that is his least useful move.

If you want to abuse Storm Drain to the fullest you might want to go with Ice Beam over Scald on Gastrodon. Ice + Ground gives very good coverage. You can already induce Burn with Heatran so not much is lost there.

On Heatran you could go with Lava Plume over Fire Blast and Roar over Will-o-wisp. You'll loose the 85% of the burn but 30% is still decent and with Roar you'll have an easier time against Baton Pass (SmashPass) teams. Otherwise you can also use Flamethrower over Fire Blast as without any investment the damage output is hardly noticeable and the extra PP and accuracy might come in handy.

Your team also has a bit of a problem in taking strong physical hits. CB Terrakion, SD Excadrill can all be potent threats to your team. Even with Regeneration, Tangrowth isn't going to hard counter them, especially with entry hazards up. For this reason I suggest Gliscor instead of Tangrowth. Gliscor can take any physical hit and as added bonuses it will provide you with a status absorber (albeit Reuniclus does half that job as well) and it can shut down stall with Taunt + SD. You will loose a sleep inducer, but with Toxic on Gastrodon and Burn on Heatran, having Sleep Powder is a bit redundant.

Oh, and I also suggest using a Jolly nature on Excadrill so you can outspeed Adamant versions and at least speed tie with opposing Jolly ones (SD variants are Jolly).

I hope these suggestions helped and good luck with the team.

hey thanks for the rate! I've been meaning to try ice beam because it is solid coverage. On Heatran I will give those suggestions a try as well since Roar would come in handy against baton pass teams and helps scout for switch ins. Now the problem I have is that Gliscor is not a hard counter to physical attacking mons either. Sadly Choice Band Terrakion's Stone edge does an upward 40% to him and thats the low end of the spectrum max damage is roughly 50% which means gliscor has a strong chance of being 2HKO'd should he have the unfortunate instance of switching in. I don't have a lot of trouble with stall because Excadrill effectively spins away hazards to protect the other members of the team and Reuniclus does incredibly well against it. Sleep Powder is incredibly useful as well because it has a high chance of putting something out for the game or becoming set up bait thanks to the new sleep mechanic. The team does have some trouble with boosted physical hits however Excadrill is still not OHKOing Tangrowth even with a +2 X-Scissor which means he ends up getting revenged by my own excadrill the same happens to Terrakion without rock polish though they are a bit more difficult to handle. I have been thinking of using Jolly Exca since he is revenging but most of the time Air Balloon means I win against Life Orb variants which are becoming more popular.

Anyways thanks for the suggestions and I will try them out!

maybe want to put leech seed on tanggrowth, as seeing you will need te extra bit of hp, and will also let you live longer and kill more stuff. good strategy right?
