Yo’. My interest in a competitive (4th Gen) Hail team has just been through the roofs of late. So therefore I created one. It has done ok on the Poke Lab server (where there I am known as Dobby) and just that. I have tinkered with it and have a team I think is post worthy, but still needs some changes which hopefully you guys can help with.
At A Glance
Abomasnow @ Leftovers
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 252 HP, 252 SpD, 4 SpA
Nature: Sassy
- Blizzard
- Leech Seed
- Wood Hammer
- Protect
Obvious lead for a hail team. Blizzard is always nice especially because of its 100% accuracy and STAB, whilst Wood Hammer is a nice beasty move easily taking out Swampert and the like. Protect is to stall a bit for hail damage (every lil bit counts) and also if the foe is poisoned or leech seeded. Originally Protect was Substitute however I am just dreadful with sub for some bizarre reason.
Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP, 136 SpD, 120 Def
Nature: Calm
- Blizzard
- Rapid Spin
- Surf
- Toxic Spikes
I really needed a spinner and found that Tentacruel was perfection. It absorbs TSpikes and also sets them up, spins anything else out. Surf for STAB, and Blizzard because I’m addicted to the strong hitting 100% move. With over 340 SpD and just under 200 Def, it can easily take a hit or two enabling for it to do its objective, of spinning and setting/attacking.
Froslass @ Focus Sash
Ability: Snow Cloak
EVs: 252 Spe, 252 SpA, 4 SpD
Nature: Timid
- Blizzard
- Destiny Bond
- Shadow Ball
- Spikes
A MAXED speed Froslass reaches speeds of up to 350. Mix that with a decent SpA stat and some hard hitting moves and you’re in. The only problem is that it dies too often too quickly. Bummer, I know right? So I sashed it so there was the opportunity for a revenge kill. However rocks more than often end me. Of course since most of the time I can out speed the opponent, I just set Destiny Bond up and do a suicide mission, but lately I’ve been thinking if it’s worth it. Maybe I should try another Pokémon or another move set, I’m not sure...
Zapdos @ Lum Berry
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 Def, 252 SpA, 252 Spe
Nature: Timid
- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave
- U-Turn
- Roost
I gotta say, this thing fits quite well into a Hail based team. TBolt for obvious STAB, Heat Wave for revenge kills against Scizor (and also for other steel/bug/grass threats) U-Turn for some quick damage and Roost for some HP recovery. Originally it had Leftovers to negate hail damage, but I found that too often I was getting paralysed, and therefore dying as its defences are nothing to be proud about.
Walrein @ Leftovers
Ability: Ice Body
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 SpD
Nature: Bold
- Blizzard
- Surf
- Roar
- Toxic
A bit of this and a bit of that make up my Walrein. Although it’s SpA is nothing amazing, Blizzard and Surf are an amazing STAB combo. If I come across a problem that can’t be dealt with those two I toxic. By chance if my Tentacruel has set up TSpikes, and perhaps Froslass has done the same with Spikes I’ll Roar for some easy damage, and it builds up quite fast with Hail damage, poison and spikes.
Machamp @ Lum Berry
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Spe, 4 HP
Nature: Adamant
- Dynamic Punch
- Stone Edge
- Payback
- Bullet Punch
My Blissy counter. Prior to when I had Champ’ in the team it was near impossible for me to kill Blissy. I normally switch straight away into Machamp, hence the Lum Berry if Blissy were to go for the Thunder Wave. DPunch is fairly obvious, Stone Edge and Payback for some coverage, and BPunch for priority. I had a great sweep with this thing the other day which proves it has it uses outside of bliss-counter.
Side Lined Pokémon
Weavile @ Life Orb
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Spe, 4 HP
-Ice Shard
-Night Slash
-Swords Dance
-Fake Out
Mamoswine @ Leftovers
Nature: Adamant
EVs:252 Atk, 252 Spe, 4 Def
-Ice Shard
-Earthquake
-Stealth Rocks
-Stone Edge
I could not find a recent OU (4th Gen) Threat List. If someone could link me up I would appreciate it very much.
