Whew, okay...time for my second team (heh, but first competitive team, that is!). Now, I spent a lot of time thinking about this, but it is still my first actual team, so try not to be too critical while rating and give helpful advice. Now, on to the team! *note: all future changes will be made in bold*
The team at a glance:
Nibbies (Gallade-Mega) @ Galladite
Ability: Inner Focus
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant/Jolly Nature
- Drain Punch
- Psycho Cut/Knock off/skill swap?
- Ice Punch
- Bulk Up
Ah, gallade. So this is what the main focus of my team is for the most part. The evs are pretty simple: I wanted gallade to be as powerful and speedy as possible. The reason I went for the adamant instead of jolly is because, in my eyes, gallade has decent enough bulk (especially with bulk up) to sacrifice outspeeding a few things in return for absolute wall-breaking goodness! The moves are there for coverage and STAB. Also, I'm a bit iffy on ice punch and am thinking about replacing it with knock off. Oh yeah, before you start questioning my intelligence as to why I don't have close combat, it's because I prefer longevity over shitting on everything. Okay, as you see from my edit, I've been considering skill swap for a while. There are two main reasons to use this. First, a lot of heavily used pokemon are very reliant on their abilities to either give them offensive or defensive prowess (M-sableye and talonflame come to mind). Also, just think...skill swapping azumarill! Gallade's ability kinda sucks, too. Lastly, skill swap gallade is certainly unorthodox, meaning nothing with a reliant ability will switch out. So, with good prediction, it can be a monster at times. again, I'm just considering this, so let me know if it's a really horrible idea.
Mr. Tums (Magnezone) @Assault vest Choice Specs
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Quiet Nature
IVs: 30 Atk / 30 Def / 0 Spe
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Now, on to Mr. tums! This guy provides absolutely perfect typing and coverage for the rest of my team, and I needed a special sweeper, so here he is! This might be a little unorthodox simply because I'm completely neutering his speed instead of trying to improve it, and I'll explain why. His HA, analytic, gives a 30% power boost every time he moves last. ...yeah. Considering his speed is only 112, that's pretty easy to accomplish, so he gets a no-recoil life orb and an assault vest. Also, I hate the idea of being locked into a move. Heh... I realized that with sylveon and (partly) gallade, tanking special hits isn't a priority on this team. So, in conjunction with that, I gave Mr. Tums choice specs! Essentially, every time he hits, his special attack is 390 at level 50 (768 at lv. 100). That... Is pretty much an OHKO on everything un resisted, especially since he still gets STAB on most of his moves. Let me know of any feedback!
Sylveon @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 104 Def / 52 SpA / 100 SpD 248 HP / 104 Def / 52 SpA / 104 SpD
Calm Nature
- Calm Mind
- Heal Bell
- Wish
- Hyper Voice
Next up, we have sylveon! So this here's my main special tank (notice tank, not wall) of the team. I have never been a fan of walls, simply because they just sit there, literally siphoning momentum from your side. So, my answer to that is combining the offensive and defensive set of sylveon and getting a satisfying result. Calm mind is for a perfect defensive and offensive mix of a boost, and hyper voice is there to wreck faces. Heal bell and wish are your obligatory defensive moves. I'm thinking of adding baton pass, to essentially turn magnezone into a win button after passing calm mind.
Gyarados @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 88 HP / 192 Atk / 52 Def / 176 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Taunt
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
-Stone Edge Bounce/Crunch
Now, this gyarados is a set that I generally prefer due to my preference to bulky offense. This here is usually my lead to destroy rock setters, walls, etc. using a semi-fast taunt. The speed evs are there to outspeed something before a dragon dance. Once again, adamant for pure wrecking power. Sitrus is on this set instead of leftovers for some clutch recovery. Gyarados is my secondary sweeper, in case gallade decides to die. Ideally, I'd like to switch in on a physical attacker, get intimidate off, and start setting up to sweep.
Ditto @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Imposter
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Transform
Here we go, folks, my answer to almost every form of set up sweeping there is. With ditto, I don't need to worry about opposing attempts at setting up and actively encourage it. The only reason I call this a revenge killer is because I need to have something die before this guy comes in. Seriously, though, it makes it a lot harder for this team to be swept by anything because most players are competent enough to not start setting up when they see ditto. Also, it's pretty fun to use :D
Hippowdon @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Careful/Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
I'll be honest, I'm open to suggestions of a physical sponge that is more of a tank. But, hippowdon is all I can think of for now. I opted to put rocky helmet on this thing because since I'm only going to let him get hit by physical attacks for the most part, I might as well get some residual damage. Hippowdon is also my rock setter, while having reliable recovery as well. The classic rock/ground combo gets essentially perfect coverage, which is an added bonus. I made him careful simply because I'm not always going to be able to dodge special attacks, and when I do end up facing one, I'd prefer to not get OHKO'ed immediately. Ok, I think adamant is advisable, simply because I want hippowdon to pack more of a Punch while still having awesome defensive capabilities. As you already may of guessed, I'm not one for stall, and I really prefer if my pokemon were more offensive. But, if I end up having stealth rocks on another member, I'll give hippowdon curse, so I would have a careful nature in that case.
So, there you go! My first competitive team! I think it's a great balanced team, while not having too much to do with stall (seriously, I hate that style of play). Also, the combination of pressure by ditto and no common weaknesses make this a very hard team to plow through, but I'd appreciate any suggestions you might have. I encourage you to play with this team on showdown! Happy rating!*As you can see, I changed up my evs, simply to take less damage from hazards.
