Here’s some pointers to get ya started:
Check out the viability rankings, basically a list of viable Pokemon ranked from best to worst. I typically never use Pokemon below b-, but exceptions can be made.
When building a team, compile a list of weaknesses when you’re stuck. For example, incineroar and aerodactyl are both weak to water, so an electric or grass type would be helpful.
Above all, play test on Pokemon showdown. Ask for help on the rmt forums, there’ll be no shortage of of it.
As for sets, the smogon vgc analysises provide all that you ask for, along with tips on how to use it and good teammates.
