[SET]
name: Choice Band
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Rock Slide
move 3: Superpower
move 4: Crunch
item: Choice Band
nature: Adamant
evs: 212 HP / 212 Atk / 20 Def

Why this set deserves to be on-site:
  • Hippopotas usually receives first turn taunts
  • Earthquake + Rock Slide provides a pseudo EdgeQuake combo.
  • Superpower hits Ferroseed (Even Eviolite is nearly destoyed) as well as Munchlax (Tank is always OHKO'd, Stockpile + Whirlwind is down to 5-9 HP w/out hazards.)
  • Crunch rounds off coverage, hitting Abra hard (which will probably trick you a Choice Scarf, though you can survive any of its attacks.)

Additional Comments:
  • Shallow movepool provides very few other options.
  • You could max out its Speed, but it will only hit 12 Speed, making the HP investment more valuable.
  • Bulldoze is a gimmiky move that can be used to attempt to make the user faster than the opponent, but Hippopotas will still most likely be slower.

Teammates & Counters:
  • TR Support makes this thing extremely hard to kill, and at that point, a Brave Nature would be used.
  • Entry Hazard Support is welcome, but it doesn't turn any notable 2HKO's into OHKO's.

OK before I say anything about this set please provide some calculations on the metagame's top threats (Mienfoo, Scraggy, Lileep, Slowpoke) as well as the physical walls (Ferroseed, Timburr to an extent, Bronzor, etc.) to see how much damage Hippopotas's Earthquakes will do. This set seems very "meh" to me at this time because Hippopotas's purpose on most teams isn't to attempt to sweep but it could prove useful if I get calcs. The fact that it is set up bait for Levitators/Flyers if locked into Earthquake, Ghosts if locked into Superpower, and Ferroseed if locked into anything BUT Superpower are really turn offs for me because people can just predict around Superpower and shit by using Protect and locking Hippopotas into a move. Again, I'm requesting calcs before rejecting this set making any comments.

Earthquake vs Bulky Attacker Mienfoo: 71.4%-85.7%
Earthquake vs DD Scraggy: 71.4%-85.7%
Earthquake vs Sandless Special Sponge Lileep: 50%-61.5%
Superpower vs Lileep: 76.9%-92.3%
Crunch vs Physically Defensive Slowpoke: 44.4%-59.3%
Earthquake vs Slowpoke: 44.4%-55.6%
Earthquake vs Bulk Up Timburr: 60%-72%
Superpower vs Lead Bronzor: 36%-44%

I'm really sorry but this set is just way too gimmicky. Hippopotas does a good amount of things well, but sweeping just isn't one of them.

QC REJECT 1/3
