[SET COMMENTS]
Hippowdon is a bulky Ground-type wall and Stealth Rock setter able to switch into threatening offensive Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Tapu Lele, Iron Valiant, Tapu Koko, and Mega Charizard Y. It can find plenty of time to set up Stealth Rock and spread chip damage with Toxic and its ability Sand Stream. Sand Stream also allows Hippowdon to disrupt opposing weather, which is bolstered by its positive matchup against every other weather setter. Toxic notably nets a ton of chip damage on Defoggers attempting to get rid of Hippowdon's Stealth Rock and Ground-Immune Pokemon switching into Earthquake, such as Rotom-W, Tornadus-T, and Mega Charizard Y. Hippowdon can Terastallize into the Steel typing to avoid Toxic in addition to Grass-, Water-, and Ice-type attacks while maintaining its sand immunity and Stealth Rock resistance. Even beyond the simple type matchup chart changes, it allows Hippowdon to more easily check its targets such as Tornadus-T, Tapu Lele, Zapdos, and Mega Diancie. Maximum Special Defense EVs are ran due to Hippowdon having more valuable special targets than physical, namely the aforementioned Pokemon. Mega Lopunny and Tornadus-T appreciate Hippowdon's presence, as it checks both Choice Scarf Tapu Lele and Zapdos while setting up Stealth Rock to help wear down their checks. Defensively, Hippowdon supports Pokemon such as Garganacl and Skarmory; Garganacl appreciates the sand and its attached benefits and Skarmory appreciates the sturdy Ground-type anchor and special wall. Hippowdon struggles to fend off strong physical attackers like Kingambit, Mega Scizor, Kartana, and Mega Gyarados. For this reason, it pairs exquisitely with strong physical walls such as Skarmory and Buzzwole. Hippowdon also suffers from a Spikes vulnerability, meaning it appreciates Defog support from Pokemon like Tornadus-T and Zapdos.
