**Overview**:

With a skewed stat spread, Hisuian Avalugg is a physically defensive Pokemon whose with an abysmal typing that hinders it from reaching its maximum potential. Rocking its own signature move and the ability to set and remove entry hazards, Hisuian Avalugg differentiates itself from its Kalosian brother enough to carve its status as a last minute last-minute addition to already well-rounded teams. However, in addition to Hisuian Avalugg's terrible defensive typing, its poor Special Defense and Speed stats combined with middling coverage makes make it a Pokemon that is difficult to justify bringing.

Common Roles
========
**Physical Wall**: Hisuian Avalugg’s staggering physical bulk allows it to shrug off most hits from opposing Pokemon, giving it ample turns to spin away entry hazards, set up Stealth Rocks Rock, or recover HP. However, its unfortunate defensive typing means that most Pokemon will be able to hit Hisuan Avalugg with super effective damage, limiting its longevity.

**Entry Hazard Lead**: With Sturdy, Hisuian Avalugg is guaranteed a turn to set up Stealth Rocks Rock against the opposing team and potentially can clear hazards set up by the opponent with Rapid Spin. Entry hazard Hazard lead sets can also consider using a Custap Berry to guarantee an extra attack.

**Heavy Duty Heavy-Duty Boots**: Often appearing as a an entry hazard removal option, Hisuian Avalugg greatly appreciates the ability to pivot into opposing Pokemon without breaking Sturdy or taking hazard damage in order to Rapid Spin spin them away.

**Rocky Helmet**: Rocky Helmet spreads chip damage to the opposing Pokemon that Hisuian Avalugg will likely absorb many physical hits from across the course of a game.

**Custap Berry**: Custap Berry used in conjunction with Sturdy allows Hisuian Avalugg to take a massive hit while ensuring its next move is executed with priority.

**Leftovers**: Against physical attackers, Hisuian Avalugg can be expected to stay in for many turns, allowing for a bit of extra recovery each turn.

**Mental Herb**: Mental Herb can be used in on lead sets to prevent Hisuian Avalugg from being taunted disrupted by Taunt or encored Encore.

**Choice Band**: Choice Band lets Hisuian Avalugg become a terrifying wallbreaker who that can use opposing physical attackers as entry points.

**Loaded Dice**: Loaded Dice gives Hisuian Avalugg more reliable STAB attacks in Icicle Spear and Rock Blast, (AC) which helps against Substitutes, opposing Focus Sash leads, and Pokemon such as Dragonite.

**Assault Vest**: Assault Vest can patch up Hisuian Avalugg's poor Special Defense, allowing it to tank some neutral special attacks from enemies.

Tera
========
Terastallization allows Hisuian Avalugg to shed its terrible typing, making it a solid choice for a Tera Captain in conjunction with another top tier top-tier Pokemon. Hisuian Avalugg greatly appreciates a better defensive typing such as Tera Water, Fairy, Poison or Steel. It can also utilize Tera Fighting to boost its already powerful Body Press (RC) or Tera Ghost to spinblock after setting up Stealth Rocks Rock.

Draft Strategy
========
Hisuian Avalugg is typically drafted as a last minute last-minute addition to provide some utility and defense. It should aim to support drafts that are physically vulnerable on the physical side and would appreciate entry hazard control.

**Special Walls**: Hisuian Avalugg appreciates specially defensive Pokemon such as Galarian Slowking or and Sylveon who that can comfortably absorb the special attacks that it fears so much.

**Alternate Entry Hazard Removers**: Rarely would you want to rely on Hisuian Avalugg as your only spinner. Other teammates that can remove entry hazards, such as Iron Treads or and Terapagos, are greatly appreciated.

Checks and Counters
========
**Fighting- and Steel-type Attacks**: Not even Hisuian Avalugg’s impressive physical bulk can withstand a 4x super effective move from Fighting- and Steel type Steel-type Pokemon.

**Special Attacks**: With its pitiful Special Defense, Hisuian Avalugg fears even neutral special attacks moves from most Pokemon.

**Entry Hazards**: Despite being a spinner, Hisuian Avalugg does hold a 2x weakness to Stealth Rock. Entry hazards Hazards also force Hisuian Avalugg to run Heavy-Duty Boots when it might appreciate using other items such as Leftovers or a and Custap Berry.
