Quality Control Hisuian Decidueye [QC 1/2]

Formerly Guertena
[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 8

**Price Range**: 2-3 points

**Overview**: Hisuian Decidueye has access to the ability Scrappy and the Fighting-type signature move Triple Arrows. On paper, this combination should make it one of the most threatening Pokemon to try and switch in against. It disappoints in practice due to its sub-optimal stat spread and typing, dreadful Speed, and reliance on the luck of the draw in regards to Triple Arrows’ adverse effects, making it often inferior to the stronger Close Combat. It can contribute some useful utility to a team, most notably pivoting and hazard removal, but these qualities should be sought in more reliable Pokemon before turning to Hisuian Decidueye.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Offensive Pivot**: Hisuian Decidueye can undertake a hit-and-run strategy against slow, passive walls or Pokemon it can outspeed with a Choice Scarf, using its many progress-making moves to make as much of an impact on the game state as possible.

**Offensive Utility**: Hisuian Decidueye’s utility moves are very valuable, but its mediocre defensive stats and typing make it difficult to position effectively. It can take advantage of the switches it forces to clear the field of hazards, attack with strong STAB moves, and generally disrupt the opponent’s gameplan.

**Setup Sweeper**: Rarely, Hisuian Decidueye may be able to mount a sweep against an unprepared enemy team. This can typically be done with Trailblaze + Swords Dance or Bulk Up + Roost to outspeed or outlast the opponent’s Pokemon.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Leaf Blade, Seed Bomb, Triple Arrows, Close Combat

**Setup Moves**: Swords Dance, Bulk Up, Trailblaze

**Utility Moves**: Defog, Substitute, Brick Break, Knock Off, U-turn, Haze, Roost, Taunt

**Coverage**: Brave Bird, Rock Tomb, Shadow Claw, Shadow Sneak, Sucker Punch, Tera Blast

Niche Moves
========
**Tailwind**: Hisuian Decidueye can certainly benefit from its own Tailwind or pivot out to a teammate better suited to take advantage of it, but Tailwind is difficult to set up and lasts for precious few turns, making it unreliable.

Common Items
========
**Damage Boosting Items**: Choice Band, Black Belt, Life Orb, and Expert Belt are all fine choices to make Hisuian Decidueye's Scrappy Fighting-type STAB moves even more difficult to withstand or switch in on.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: If Hisuian Decidueye is being used as a hazard remover, it will typically like to be immune to the entry hazards it seeks to remove.

**Choice Scarf**: Choice Scarf can be used to outspeed most opponents and take full advantage of Hisuian Decidueye’s highly spammable moves; however, it is still too slow to beat out even many unboosted Pokemon.

Niche Items
========
**Leftovers**: Leftovers can give Hisuian Decidueye some additional staying power in matchups where it takes on a more key role.

**Resistance Berries**: Neutralizing (or halving, in the case of Flying) Hisuian Decidueye’s weaknesses can give it a chance to fire back at foes, as its slow speed often forces it to move second.

Tera
========
Hisuian Decidueye is a fine choice for a tertiary Tera option, if budget permits. Tera Fighting is the obvious choice for making its Triple Arrows and Close Combat maximally powerful; Tera Grass is another offensive option which notably turns Trailblaze into a modestly powerful Speed-boosting attack. Other types, such as Tera Steel, Tera Dark, and Tera Water can make it easier for Hisuian Decidueye to set up, but these options only make it a passable user of Terastalization.

Draft Strategy
========
Hisuian Decidueye should be added to teams which can both generate and utilize momentum through pivoting to pair effectively with the progress it can create with its moveset. If the team is hazard-weak, consider selecting a much more robust hazard remover that Hisuian Decidueye can support as a backup option.

**Pivots**: Hisuian Decidueye should usually be drafted as a small part of a bigger VoltTurn core consisting of Pokemon such as Landorus-T, Rotom-W, Cinderace, and Meowscarada.

Checks and Counters
========
**Flying- and Poison-types**: Scrappy may eliminate Ghost’s immunity to Fighting, but Hisuian Decidueye still struggles to deal with Pokemon such as Zapdos, Tornadus-T, and Pecharunt, which resist both its STAB moves and threaten to KO in return.

**Faster Pokemon**: Whether they be faster naturally or whilst using Choice Scarf or Booster Energy, Pokemon such as Iron Valiant, Enamorus-I, and Sneasler can be huge roadblocks for Hisuian Decidueye.

**Status Conditions**: Hisuian Decidueye dislikes being afflicted by any status condition, especially burn and poison spread by Pokemon like Slowking-G, Weezing-G, and Talonflame.

**Chip Damage**: Adverse contact effects from abilities and Rocky Helmet can wear down Hisuian Decidueye and put it in danger of losing to bulky Pokemon it should be able to threaten, like Garchomp, Hydrapple, and Moltres.

It disappoints in practice due to its middling base stat total stat spread its BST is pretty decent for this price range - it's a starter, after all, dreadful Speed, and reliance on the luck of the draw in regards to Triple Arrows’ adverse effects. It can contribute some useful utility to a team, most notably pivoting and hazard removal, but these qualities should be sought in more reliable Pokemon before turning to Hisuian Decidueye. mention the lack of coverage; there's such an emphasis on Triple Arrows here because it doesn't get much else

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Offensive Pivot**: With a Choice Scarf, Hisuian Decidueye can patch up its poor Speed stat in order to outspeed unboosted base 114 Speed Pokemon and below. It can then use its litany of progress-making moves to make as much of an impact on the game state as possible. this is just the Choice Scarf section in items. I'd rewrite it to have less emphasis on choice scarf and more as H-Decidueye as a mon, even if it's running scarf much of the time

**Offensive Utility**: Hisuian Decidueye’s utility moves which ones? are very valuable, but its mediocre defensive stats and typing make it difficult to position effectively. It should can take advantage of the switches it forces to clear the field of hazards, attack with strong STAB moves, and generally disrupt the opponent’s gameplan. how?

**Setup Sweeper**: Rarely, Hisuian Decidueye may be able to mount a sweep against an unprepared enemy team. This can typically be done with Trailblaze + Swords Dance or Bulk Up + a recovery move its multitude of setup moves like Trailblaze, Swords Dance, Nasty Plot, and Bulk Up to outspeed or outlast the opponent’s Pokemon. honestly you could keep your original phrasing and just make it more "sentency", remove the "+" and make it sound more natural

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Leaf Blade, Seed Bomb, it doesn't make contact Triple Arrows, Close Combat

**Setup Moves**: Swords Dance, Bulk Up, Nasty Plot, Trailblaze

**Utility Moves**: Defog, Substitute, Light Screen, Brick Break, Knock Off, U-turn, Haze, Roost, Synthesis, Taunt

**Coverage**: Brave Bird, Dual Wingbeat, Rock Tomb, Shadow Claw, Shadow Sneak, Sucker Punch, Tera Blast

you mention Nasty Plot here but don't mention special moves anywhere else... either put special moves in Primary STAB or move Nasty Plot to Niche

Niche Moves
========
**Tailwind**: Hisuian Decidueye can certainly benefit from its own Tailwind or pivot out to a teammate better suited to take advantage of it, but Tailwind is difficult to set up and lasts for precious few turns, making it unreliable.

Night Shade? ehhhhhh... Confuse Ray...? no... aw, really wish I could think of more...

Common Items
========
**Choice Scarf**: Choice Scarf is a necessity to outspeed most of the unboosted metagame and take full advantage of Hisuian Decidueye’s highly spammable moves.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: If Hisuian Decidueye is being used as a hazard remover, it will typically like to be immune to the entry hazards it seeks to remove.

Niche Items
========
**Choice Band**: The additional damage from a Choice Band can make Hisuian Decidueye’s Scrappy Fighting-type STAB moves almost impossible to switch in on, making it an effective wallbreaker in favorable matchups.

**Damage-boosting Items**: I'm admittedly not a Decidueye expert but I can't help but imagine

**Protective Pads**:

**Leftovers**: Leftovers can give Hisuian Decidueye some additional staying power in matchups where it takes on a more key role.

**Resistance Berries**: Neutralizing (or halving, in the case of Flying) Hisuian Decidueye’s weaknesses can give it a chance to fire back at foes, as its slow speed often forces it to move second.

Tera
========
Hisuian Decidueye is a good choice for a budget Tera option. Tera Fighting is the clear-cut choice for making its Triple Arrows and Close Combat maximally effective; Tera Grass is another offensive option which notably turns Trailblaze into a decently powerful Speed-boosting attack. Other types, such as Tera Steel, Tera Dark, and Tera Water can make it easier for Hisuian Decidueye to set up, but these options only make it a passable user of Terastalization, and stronger Pokemon should almost always be prioritized when deciding what Tera Captains to assign. I'd take the last part and move it closer to the top; mention that Hisuian Decidueye isn't a creme-de-la-creme Tera Captain before delving into the types it uses

Draft Strategy
========
Hisuian Decidueye should be added to nearly-finished teams, especially those which can both generate and utilize momentum through pivoting to pair effectively with the progress Hisuian Decidueye can create if it can use its moves.

**Stealth Rock**: You're luring in a bunch of Flying types and knocking them off, may as well kill two birds with one stone, right?

**Webs Support**: While far from necessary, Sticky Webs support from Pokemon like Ribombee, Araquanid, and Galvantula can help patch up Hisuian Decidueye’s bad Speed, turning more lucky flinches from Triple Arrows into free KOs. The other, more valuable Pokemon on the team should also be poised to take advantage of the entry hazard.

Checks and Counters
========
**Flying- and Poison-types**: Scrappy may eliminate Ghost’s immunity to Fighting, but Hisuian Decidueye still struggles to deal with Pokemon such as Zapdos, Tornadus-T, and Weezing-G, which resist both its STAB moves and threaten to KO in return.

**Faster Pokemon**: Whether they be faster naturally or whilst using Choice Scarf or Booster Energy, Pokemon such as Iron Valiant, Tornadus-T, and Noivern Weavile can be huge roadblocks for Hisuian Decidueye. I'd slightly rephrase this to "revenge killers", most Pokemon are faster than Hisuian Decidueye so "faster Pokemon" doesn't convey what you want it to

**Status Conditions**: Hisuian Decidueye dislikes being afflicted by any status condition, especially burn and paralysis spread by Pokemon like Rotom-H, Weezing-G, and Clefable.

**Adverse Contact Effects**:

you mention Torn-T and Gweezing twice here, try to come up with a unique example for each

triple arrows shouldnt highlighted so much - its a good move but more than often worse than cc
poor defensive typing should be somewhere in here
its BST is fine the stat spread is just bad

should be talking about more than just scarf here especially considering its too slow to be an actually good scarfer - just talk about how it can be decent at hit and running with various items

**Offensive Utility**: Hisuian Decidueye’s utility moves are very valuable, but its mediocre defensive stats and typing make it difficult to position effectively. It should can take advantage of the switches it forces to clear the field of hazards, attack with strong STAB moves, and generally disrupt the opponent’s gameplan.

synth is completely outclassed on this mon no need to mention it

Common Moves

could add low sweep here

Common Items
========
**Damage Boosting Items**:

**Choice Scarf**: Choice Scarf is a necessity to outspeed most of the unboosted metagame and take full advantage of Hisuian Decidueye’s highly spammable moves.
move to botton of common

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: If Hisuian Decidueye is being used as a hazard remover, it will typically like to be immune to the entry hazards it seeks to remove.

Niche Items
========
**Choice Band**: The additional damage from a Choice Band can make Hisuian Decidueye’s Scrappy Fighting-type STAB moves almost impossible to switch in on, making it an effective wallbreaker in favorable matchups.
common with other damage boosting items

**Leftovers**: Leftovers can give Hisuian Decidueye some additional staying power in matchups where it takes on a more key role.

**Resistance Berries**: Neutralizing (or halving, in the case of Flying) Hisuian Decidueye’s weaknesses can give it a chance to fire back at foes, as its slow speed often forces it to move second.

bit too positive to say its "good" even as a tertiary cap
last sentence already known by that point + is fluff

3 point mon is always gonna be on nearly finished teams - already shown by being an 8th round pick

**Pivots**: Hisuian Decidueye should usually be drafted as a small part of a bigger VoltTurn core consisting of Pokemon such as Landorus-T, Rotom-W, Cinderace, and Meowscarada.

this should just be hazard setters generally that has a small part talking abuot webs if youre gonna have a section for it

Checks and Counters
========

no idea why para is in this section its already insanely slow - remove clef & replace with poison

**Chip Damage**:
helmet/hazards are really annoying since its so slow - gets it into range of bulky mons its supposed to beat

these sections should have relevant mons + no repeats for each section
pech lets u not double up on g-weez - pick out the rest
