Hitmonchan is often used on bulky offensive and balanced teams as a glue Pokemon to check special attackers like Aurorus, Pyroar, and Eelektross and revenge kill foes such as Jynx and Lycanroc. Hitmonchan gets plenty of opportunities to spin with the switches it forces. Hitmonchan also acts as a nice check to many hyper offensive teams, especially weather variants. Assault Vest Hitmonchan, however, struggles against defensive cores featuring Spiritomb, such as Ferroseed + Spiritomb, as it is unable to prevent entry hazards from piling up. Hitmonchan struggles against standard Fighting-type checks like Mesprit and Weezing, meaning special wallbreakers like Oricorio-G and Abomasnow are great teammates. Dark-types like Skuntank and Spiritomb can also trap and threaten Ghost-types, such as Oricorio-G and Haunter, which can spinblock against Hitmonchan.
