SS OU HO Setup-Screens Peak ~ 1700

Hello everyone been awile, I’ve been using this team for awile and it’s been doing great in OU, especially since the phero and urshifu ban, the concept is simple, dual screens and setup sweepers. The team revolves around a sacrifice lead lando-t, a screen setting eleki and 4 setup sweepers (magearna, rillaboom, hawlucha and volcarona/cinderace) I once had a 15 win streak with this team and I hope people will improve using it, now let’s get onto the team

:ss/Landorus-therian:
Landorus-Therian (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Swords Dance
- Explosion
- Earthquake

Landorus is used as a sacrifice lead as previously mentioned, it sets up stealth rocks and if it outspeeds uses explosion or earthquake, sword dance is to predict the swap and then use explosion on the defogger, this works well on pokemon such as mandibuzz and moltres and stops the corviknight from using defog as there’s nobody there, you can then send in another pokemon to counter the corviknight to force a swap, rocks are so important in this team to stop sashes and it usually gets a kill too.

:ss/regieleki:
Regieleki @ Light Clay
Ability: Transistor
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Rapid Spin
- Volt Switch

Regieleki is used after landorus to provide screens for the rest of the team to setup. With screens most the Pokemon can setup and sweep and it can get rid of webs and rocks with rapid spin while keeping our stealth rocks, volt switch is to kill those defog birds if they arnt down and to swap into another pokemon without wasting a turn, eleki gets this boosted by its ability and it’s also the fastest unboosted pokemon in the game, you can predict the category of moves and go for reflect/light screen, just be wary with it.

:ss/rillaboom:
Rillaboom @ Life Orb
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Grassy Glide
- Swords Dance
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off

Now we have rillaboom, our priority user. This thing is insane once you get a sword dance off, you’re mainly clicking grassy glide, but if not knock off can deal with slowbro and other bulky slow pokemon, drain punch for ferro and heatran, sword dance to boost power and grassy glide for main stab, it also helps out 2 other sweepers with its terrain and is a good switch in for an earthquake on regieleki, with 125 base attack power this thing hits very hard on neutral targets and KOs most sweeping pokemon that don’t resist it.

:ss/hawlucha:
Hawlucha @ Grassy Seed
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 132 HP / 252 Atk / 124 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Acrobatics
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge

Hawlucha is our main grassy glide sweeper and works well with it, with 606 speed after the grassy seed it consumes it can freely setup a sword dance on most effective physical pokemon. Acrobatics gains a 110 base power with no item and close combat is a 120bp stab, stone edge is for coverage and it has 124 speed evs to outspeed timid excadrill in sand. 252 in attack for obvious reasons and the rest in hp to help it survive a hit, overall one of the best sweepers behind a screen and causes many forfeits.

:ss/magearna:
Magearna @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shift Gear
- Calm Mind
- Draining Kiss
- Stored Power

Magearna is borderline ban worthy but we have it here anyway, it’s so good this gen with shift gear and calm mind boosting its stored power, after weakness policy and a calm mind draining kiss hits hard and gets alot of health back, also hits dark types. You can get away with using no defensive evs as it’s got good base bulk and screens, earthquake is further weakened by grassy terrain so it allows magearna to get of a shift gear easily and fire away with stored power.

:ss/volcarona: :ss/cinderace:

Volcarona @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Quiver Dance
- Roost
- Giga Drain
- Fiery Dance

Volcarona can be used interchangeably with cinderace but it has great special bulk and attack with good survivability with roost and giga drain keeping it alive. Quiver dance boosts its bulk, power and speed while fiery dance also raises your power, most physical pokemon 2/3 hit behind screens allowing volcarona to burn them with its ability making it easy to roost off the damage, it gets walled a bit by heatran but it can usually heal off its damage and eventually take it out with giga drain.

Cinderace @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Libero
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Pyro Ball
- High Jump Kick
- Bulk Up
- Sucker Punch

Cinderace is very good with bulk up under screens, it gets stab on all moves and gains another priority, high jump kick and pyro ball is a deadly combo followed by a bulk up and it kills a lot of threats, granted it has no way of recovery but it doesn’t matter it just murders, heatran? Dead. Ferrothorn? Dead. Everything just dies and counters such as offensive eleki and dragapult get owned by sucker punch, spectrier doesn’t stand a chance and clefable can’t swap into a pyro ball.

So that’s the team, feel free to correct or suggest anything to me and stay safe!

I used to use a team exactly like this on ladder (post Urshifu ban, to see if HO was strong without it), and I have a few notes-

As much as Regieleki might seem like a good idea, it struggles in this team due to low coverage, and does not create good synergy between itself, Rilla, and Hawlucha. Plus, momentum from it is completely ruined by ground types that more than likely come in, which even if you switch out, none of your mons have recovery at all outside of Volcarona, and really, what is Volcarona going to do? As it is, you team needs more coverage for Pex and Psychic on Volcarona (if that is being used) really needs it. To add to this, Eleki has extremely low HP, Def, and SpD, so taking a hit even after Light Screen or Reflect can still mean doom for it, which is awful because the team relies so much- especially Magearna- on those screens. Koko is much better because it gives Hawlucha momentum from Electric Terrain and an Electric Seed, AND can still be switched in from Rillaboom. Plus, Koko gets access to Taunt and U-Turn, making it superior by far.

[EDIT]

If you run Cinderace with Bulk Up it should always be used with Zen Headbutt to deal with Pex, as like I said you will need multiple sets to deal with Pex unless you use Rona.

Magearna in this team doesn't rely on having high SpA, I see a lot of players use the Magearna SP set using max SpA, but really under screens it should be run with 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe. I say the same for Volcarona, it is up to you but Bulky Volcarona fairs far better in this team because it sets up for a couple turns, gets recovery, and can definitely take a hit to the face- 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe.

Outside of that, well made team :)

Koko doesn’t have the speed tier eleki does, and I replaced volt switch with explosion for a reliable exit, eleki is also very useful with rapid spin to get rid of webs and kokos defog gets rid of its screens, magearna should run special attack with screens as it can tank (badly) basically any hit, not to mention rillaboom has grassy surge which weakens earthquake even more, I decided to run the cinderace with sucker, zen headbutt, pyro ball and bulk up.
