I know most people use Unbound instead, but I really, really wanted to make a good team with this guy. I love him to bits!
However, I'm really struggling to make a team with him. There were a few battles where I got pretty close to winning though!
I'm kind of tired right now, so I may be a little lazy with this.
Anyways, here's the team:
Rudy (Hoopa) @ Aguav Berry
Ability: Magician
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shadow Ball
- Nasty Plot
- Substitute
- Psyshock
So this is the star of the show: Rudy the Hoopa. (I don't know why I named him Rudy, it's just the name I immediately thought of when I saw him) I used Substitute to compensate for his frailness, and Nasty Plot to give him an extra boost. I prefer using it when I'm behind a substitute, as I've always been wary of setting up my Pokemon because I'm afraid they'll switch into a threat and I would've set up for nothing.
I've used Psyshock because thats what Smogon used for another set :P The EVs came from the Showdown suggested spread.
Pebbles (Mandibuzz) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Foul Play
- Roost
- Taunt
- Whirlwind
So I chose Mandibuzz because I saw it on another Hoopa-C set. Also, it's really annoying to deal with, haha! The Rocky Helmet, Taunt, and Whirlwind also come in handy! It's actually a pretty helpful and bulky Pokemon!
Zen (Rotom-Wash) @ Iapapa Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 204 Def / 56 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Will-O-Wisp
- Defog
You were probably confused on why I didn't put Defog on Mandibuzz, and this is why. Levitate helps with ground types and Will-O-Wisp also helps with weakening physical threats. Hydro Pump also provides a powerful water type move, while volt switch provides a switch-in for any Pokemon I need!
Alice (Lopunny) (F) @ Lopunnite
Ability: Limber
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Return
- High Jump Kick
- Power-Up Punch
- Encore
Lopunny is here to deal with both Ghosts and Dark threats, two things Hoopa is 4x weak to. While it can't exactly check Ghosts, it can at least resist them. Encore allows her to deal with entry hazards like stealth rocks, because they will just keep using stealth rocks over and over again. It's also extremely quick, allowing it to outspeed any threats. Power-Up Punch is also good because it not only hit the opponent, but it raises attack. Therefore, Lopunny works as a good sweeper.
Geyser (Volcanion) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Steam Eruption
- Flamethrower
- Earth Power
Alright, I know I have two water Pokemon on my team, but I really needed to deal with the weaknesses!
Anyways, Volcanion is a very interesting competitive Pokemon, with its unique typing, ability, and signature move that is pretty much the hybrid of Scald and Hydro Pump. It also has Water Absorb, so it can be really useful when the opponent doesn't know about the ability and can be a switch in to any water move. It allows me to cover Water and Fire checks in one spot.
Jasper (Nidoking) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave
- Ice Beam
- Toxic Spikes
Finally, we got Nidoking. Nidoking is a great Pokemon, and one of my personal favorites! I was originally going with Substitute for the final slot, but then I decided I had too many substitute users and it would start getting a bit redundant. Thus, I traded it in for Toxic Spikes, a very annoying and underused entry hazard!
Its ability is also very useful! I can use Life Orb without any recoil and I get a free power-up!
Sure, I don't get any secondary effects but poison isn't as good as badly poisoned!
What do you guys think?
