ORAS OU Hoopa-U taking souls and other HO friends

Hey Smogon! I made this hyper offense team with the idea of having Mega-Manectric to late game sweep, and using Hoopa-Unbound to deal with and weaken stall and balance. I know i'm by far the first person to use this core, but I wanted to try making one for myself. The team is doing pretty well, currently peaking at about 1500 and looking for advice!

The Team:

Manectric @ Manectite
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Overheat
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Manectric is this teams main asset against other Hyper Offense teams, as well as momentum gain and late-game sweeping. Thunderbolt was chosen as the main stab move, Volt switch for momentum. Hidden Power Ice is good against the plethora of Garchomp and Landorus right now, as well as doing a nice amount to Latios. I chose Overheat over Flamethrower, as it gets a few more KOs, and the Special Attack drop is usually fine, since most likely I will have to switch out the next turn anyway.

Hoopa-Unbound @ Life Orb
Ability: Magician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Hyperspace Fury
- Gunk Shot
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Drain Punch

Manectric brings speed, so now I needed power. Very few Pokemon can contest the power of Hoopa Unbound. I chose a physical variant due to its slightly better physical move pool. Hyperspace is a ridiculously high powered STAB move, 2HKOing almost every Pokemon in the format. Gunk Shot deals with annoying fairies, mainly Clefable and Sylveon, which Manectric can have issues with. HP Ice in a nice surprise for Garchomp, Landorus, and Altaria, and Drain Punch is a good coverage move for Bisharp, as well as giving an opportunity to recover off of Pokemon like Heatran.

381MS.png

Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Roost

Latios was my next go-to choice, being a Dragon that can hit hard and fast. Draco Meteor and Psyshock are for main STAB moves, doing a large chunk to anything they don't OHKO. Since Hoopa doesn't have Fire Punch, I used HP fire as another way to deal with Ferrothorn. Roost to negate Life Orb to an extend, as well as sustainability.

121MS.png

Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Hydro Pump
- Psychic
- Ice Beam / Thunderbolt

While my team is not particularly weak to Rocks, I felt like I needed a spinner because spikes can be annoying for a Volt-Switch Pokemon like Manectric. Keeping with the Hyper Offense theme, I decided on offensive Starmie. It spins fast, and Analytic Hydro Pump and Psychic are a huge nuke to anything that trys to switch in. I am kind of undecided on my last move slot, Ice Beam is nice coverage, and Thunderbolt deals with Pokemon that would wall Starmie, Like Slowbro.

625MS.png

Bisharp @ Black Glasses
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head

Swords Dance Bisharp is one of the greatest sweepers in the game right now. It usually serves as my main win condition behind Manectric, and even if it can't win, it can dent things hard. I chose to be Adamant because most Pokemon that can run enough speed EVs to hit 263, to out speed Jolly Bisharp. I also don't think Jolly is necessary because Bisharp's main STAB will be Sucker Punch anyways. I also like Black Glasses over Life Orb, as the extra 0.1 boost from LO isnt to big of a deal, and it gives Bisharp a slightly better chance to sweep

645TMS.png

Landorus-Therian @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 8 SpD / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock

Lastly, I needed Rocks, a better Electric immunity, a way to pivot, and a way to deal with Excadrill. Lando-T is every one of these things. Earthquake and Stone Edge are great coverage, and U-Turn gives Hoopa a lot of opportunitys to get in. Rocky Helmet is a small way to help the Team deal with Mega-Lopunny, which is a trouble for this team.

Very nice HO team, but I do have a couple of suggestions that might make the team better.
  • Ok first and foremost, you lack a Fairy-Switch in. Pokemon like Mega Gardevoir and Diancie can just freely spam their Fairy STABs and at most 2HKO every mon on your team. Diancie is probably the biggest threat to the team because after Lando-T is weakened, Diancie just goes for Rock Polish and wins. This is why I'm thinking Azumarill>Starmie. Azumarill has priority Aqua Jet, making your team less susceptible to Rock Polish Mega Diancie. Choice Band would probably be the best set for the team, since it one shots Mega Diancie with Aqua Jet. It also can take a Hyper Voice from Mega Gardevoir and do a ton with Waterfall. CM Sableye can also be annoying so Azumarill can check it with the Play Rough if Sableye has already Mega-Evolved. In the set, I put the standard CB Azumarill set but with some speed evs to creep opposing Azus.
Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 164 HP / 252 Atk / 92 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Superpower
  • Honestly, I don't know why you chose HP Fire Latios for that team. You have Mega Manectric, Bisharp, and Hoopa U(2HKOs with Drain Punch) for Ferrothorn so it's just really questionable. Instead, I'm suggesting Defog Latias>AOA Latios. Hoopa Unbound is your pokemon that you use to break Stall/Balanced teams. However, the amount of times it can attack is diminished thanks to Life Orb recoil. Latias has access to Healing Wish so when your Hoopa is weakened, you can just heal it back to full HP. Defog also gets rid of hazards for your team, so if you were wondering why I suggested to take out Starmie, here is the reason.
Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Defog
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Healing Wish

Hope I helped! :]

i'm fond of how much offensive pressure this build provides through voltturn + wallbreakers as this aspect is important on offense in the current metagame. despite this, there are threats you overlooked with building something as basic as landorus-t + mega manectric, specifically dd mega altaria and sd bisharp. because of your intimidate core, bisharp easily takes advantage of it, and can even find set-up opportunities on a -2 lo latios or a predicted switch, while mega altaria sets up on a large portion of your team, and cannot be revenge killed after a single dragon dance. as i feel latios + starmie is redundant, fulfilling similar roles in a water check and wallbreaker, but frankly, starmie is outclassed and negatively impacts your build. i say this because it makes you extremely weak to offensive fairy types in general, and you are capable of breaking past bulky steels such as mega scizor, skarmory, and ferrothorn with mega manectric + hoopa-u + sd bisharp. i'm recommending scarf jirachi > starmie because it provides an excellent pivot, a fairy resist that keeps up momentum, potential utility in trick to trouble bulkier playstyles, and even healing wish support in case you play an important member recklessly. as i mentioned above, sd bisharp is extremely problematic, but the next change will remedy that.

after playing around with multiple options in teambuilder, resttalk lo keldeo > bisharp would be a beneficial change. utilizing both bisharp and hoopa-u on the same team stacks many weaknesses both offensively and defensively that would require you to run a solid defensive backbone of 2-3 mons, which would cut too much momentum from your build. instead of doing this, resttalk keldeo provides you a consistent check to darkspam as its problematic, and provides you a status absorber so you won't get crippled or whittled by repeatedly coming in on resisted hits such as scald or lava plume. you would lose a form of priority which is useful in revenge killing, but you do have scarf healing wish jirachi to pick off weakened threats, or even clean with iron head. you keep offensive presence and wallbreaking capabilities, especially with the support of your pivots, but also giving a reliable check to the mons mentioned earlier.

now, with losing a form of hazard removal in starmie, i have two recommendations, either changing hp fire to defog on latios, or opting for standard defog latias > latios. with the first option, you have more offensive potential to take advantage of, while being slightly more frail which can result in pokemon like lo thundurus and mega manectric 2hko'ing. latias would deal noticeably less damage, but reliably check offensive electrics, charizard-y, etc., because of the pros and cons, i recommend making two versions of the team and test which one you personally prefer. note, if you opt for latios, zen headbutt would be ran on scarf jirachi to improve your match-up against the mentioned problems, but if you go with latias, you can use a filler such as trick or ice punch.
