I was accused of Criminal Mischief(Misdemeanor in NY) and when I appeared before a judge, he didnt ask me to enter a plea
All he said was stay out of trouble for 6 months and it will be dismissed and sealed, after that statement, i went home
so 4 hours of waiting for a 20 second statement
but now that I looking stuff up, I found somewhere that says you dont have to be convicted of anything to have a criminal record created for me.
Is there any way I can find out if a record does exist under my name, and how will it affect my chances of getting into a College or a potential Career?
Just so you know, NYU is my dream school(im 16, senior in HS now)
and id like to pursue a career in corporate finance
On some job applications that Im filling out for afterschool Jobs, they ask whether or not Ive ever been convicted or plead guilty to something other than a traffic violation
I can say no to that truthfully, but they might do a background/criminal check anyway
could the mere existence of a criminal record(because I was arraigned) work against me?
also, what kind of trouble is the court expecting me to stay out of
since that court date where hte judge told me to stay out of trouble, my parents have called the police on me 3 times, each time resulting in nothing more than a written police report about what happened
does that count as trouble?
