How to find out if I have a criminal record, and how will it affect me?

I was accused of Criminal Mischief(Misdemeanor in NY) and when I appeared before a judge, he didnt ask me to enter a plea

All he said was stay out of trouble for 6 months and it will be dismissed and sealed, after that statement, i went home

so 4 hours of waiting for a 20 second statement

but now that I looking stuff up, I found somewhere that says you dont have to be convicted of anything to have a criminal record created for me.

Is there any way I can find out if a record does exist under my name, and how will it affect my chances of getting into a College or a potential Career?

Just so you know, NYU is my dream school(im 16, senior in HS now)
and id like to pursue a career in corporate finance

On some job applications that Im filling out for afterschool Jobs, they ask whether or not Ive ever been convicted or plead guilty to something other than a traffic violation

I can say no to that truthfully, but they might do a background/criminal check anyway

could the mere existence of a criminal record(because I was arraigned) work against me?

also, what kind of trouble is the court expecting me to stay out of
since that court date where hte judge told me to stay out of trouble, my parents have called the police on me 3 times, each time resulting in nothing more than a written police report about what happened

does that count as trouble?

Your local police station might give you a criminal check.

Usually, dismissed and sealed means that you won't have a criminal record. In Canada, if you're a minor, and you commit a crime, usually, if you don't commit a crime for 1-3 years, it'll be erased (depending on the crime). NY might be similar to that. Google it.

Oh man, I remember the first time you came here and asked about your legal troubles, and boy, do I really hope that you are screwed, because America (or anywhere, for that matter) does not really need your type of human being.

Unfortunately, a criminal record with no convictions on it probably won't work against you. You should ask the police or an attorney what the judge meant by "trouble" - the information you gave is insufficient for someone to say if your parents' calls do count.

Maybe you should... Tell us the exact situation? Like, why did your parents call the police on 3 times? If you haven't had to go the judge again I doubt it works... But yeah, in Canada minors have the option of clearing their record a couple years after the fact if you meet your judge and whatnot. Maybe it's the same in NY, you should probably look that up.

Why exactly you're asking on a forum I don't really know. Talk to your attorney about it and get more information. We can only help you to a short distance. :s

And, no offense, but if you have high hopes to get into NYU and get a professional career maybe you should have uhh... Thought it through before doing whatever you did? Your parents probably have a reason why they're calling the cops on you, and you should stop doing it. Otherwise you're a moron who's digging himselve a hole and then wondering how to get out (But you keep digging anyway).

Good luck, bud.

yea ill tell you wat i did
its called reaction

if my parents are hitting me and throwing chairs at me im not gonna just sit there and take the pain

oh yea cus America is all so forgiving

After reading that sarcastic comment and the other thread, I'll just conclude that you are indeed a shit head that Akuchi and everyone else has called you. You're sarcastic to ones who try to help you, paranoid about every little thing, especially in the last thread, and are pretty much sociopathic.

Edit: Oh and NYU isn't stupid enough to accept people like you. I hope you're rejected like the worthless human being you are.
