Hunting for Shark Food

Thought I'd post my first team since ages ago. Actually, this'll be the first team I've posted in this whole site, but I have done a ton on neoseeker.com, which was my main go-to site before I even heard of this one. So I know what I'm doing... for the most part.

As you can see, this team will feature the two shark Pokemon, Sharpedo and Garchomp. Hence why its called: Hunting for Shark Food. I also threw in a couple of 5th Gen Pokemon in Shandela and Roobushin, as well as Scizor and Gliscor, 2 favourites from the original OU tier. I would test this team, but I don't have a Japanese Pokemon Black OR White at my disposal, nor is there any way I know of, other than that, to test it since it has 5th Gen Pokemon. Now if you'll excuse me, I got some explaining to do.

Thought I'd start off by throwing this guy into the lead position. Before you bitch about it though, let me just say that there's only 2 real reasons why he was NU in the first place... that I know of: insanely frail + shy off the important 100 speed tier. Well now the second problem's been fixed, thanks entirely to Dream World. Hopefully the much better Speed Boost will allow this Pokemon to see some use.

Moving on... yes I do have 3 STABs. Waterfall and Crunch are there for sheer power, while Aqua Jet finishes off any weakened foes, and ensures I get the first hit even if my opponent uses a priority attack. Ice Fang's there to cover any Dragons that think they can come in and wall me. Not that I'm aiming to sweep... I mean, I pretty much know that there's a certain dude waiting there to ruin any attempts I make at sweeping with this guy. But wouldn't it be funny if you were 6-0ed by a Sharpedo?

Basic strategy here: switch into unsuspecting opposition, fry the FUCK out of it, get out. I mean, its not like they'll switch into Blissey or some stupid thing that's designed to tank that kinda hit. Hell, it's not like they even CAN switch to something that can tank that kinda hit: with Shadow Tag as Shandela's ability, they're practically sitting ducks. Mmmmm, duck, nomnomnomnomnom.

The other attacks are pretty self explanatory... except HP, which I'll make Ground so Heatran can get completely owned as well... yes, I am taking on Heatrans with this guy. In my experience, they often run Choice Scarf, so that's why I'm doing the same.

My tank, now officially equipped Poison Heal. Because of this, I'm running a Toxic Orb on it. Actually, this setup is even better, because now Gliscor can act as a status absorber, as well as punish any Tricksters to an extent... The SPE Ev's are there so I can troll Jolly Base 90's, and the ATK EV's give it some power. After all 95 Base ATK isn't a hell of a lot.

The Toxic Orb would've likely already served its purpose the moment Gliscor enters the fray, so Fling is there to help me dispose of it, allowing Acrobat to deal much more damage. You'll be surprised at how rarely items get Knocked Off, and the extra damage and poison status is a plus, as long I don't accidentally throw it at any Guts Men. EQ is my other STAB, and Protect is now my only means of recovery, since Roost is illegal with Poison Heal. It's also there to help me scout for my opponent's next action, allowing me to act accordingly.

Yay, Garchomp's back. Now HOPEFULLY there's enough dudes out there to stop him from getting "promoted" again. Some promotion that is <_<. Anyway, this set here is a purely classic set, with a Yache Berry in case any Ice Attacks come his way and try to kill his sweep.

Name of the game here is to Swords Dance on the switch, then unleash the mighty STABs... or Fire Fang in case you come across a Skarmory or a Bronzong. Ah, good old times... oh, and I wouldn't use contact moves if I were you... you'll get even more damage thanks to Rough Skin.

Thought I'd ditch Scizor since he was the most expendable mon in my entire team. Getting rid of Sharpedo and Garchomp ruins the whole essence of "Hunting for Shark Food" (this is my theme after all), Shandela's unmatched revenge killing ability is way too valuable, I wasn't sure WHO to turn to for a Fighting guy and it wasn't really a wise idea to get rid of my only tank. On the other hand, I really did need strong Water and Ice resistances while still maintaing my Dragon resist, just in case anyone tries to Outrage the team. Empoleon came to mind here.

Boil Over deals with any Grounds that try to switch in, with a 30% of burning them. This is why I pumped more into Special Defence, as its Physical Defense would be backed up by the burn status anyway. Grass Knot and Ice Beam for being Captain Obvious, and Stealth Rock so I can actually get some hazards down, which was another thing this team lacked in. This'll be the only new hireling for the moment, as I prefer to only add 1 guy at a time. But at least now I've got someone (else) to fall back to.

Oh, there's my Fighting guy. Get... in... my... TEAM OF AWESOME SAUCE!! Seriously though, this guy can steam roll through opponents that aren't careful. But don't just take my word for it, look at all the other guys that had to stare this behemoth down. If this doesn't have my usual "walk all over Blissey" requirements, I don't know what will. Thought I'd run Guts since you can never have too many status absorbers.

Drain Punch is the main attack, and a bloody good one now that it's been fixed. Really good against Blissey, which is why I've invested some EVs to speed it up a bit. Mach Punch for priority's sake and Rock Slide for a completely different attack. Plus Bulk Up in case I get some free turns.

Well, that's my team. Feedback and CONSTRUCTIVE criticism will be appreciated. Just don't tell me to add a Blissey :P
 
I'm not much of a team rater, so I'll just keep this short.

1- Roost is incompatible with Poison Heal on Gliscor (4th gen tm and 5th gen ability). I would suggest Protect over Roost so you can at least have some recovery. Also on Gliscor, there is no reason to use Wing Attack since Acrobat has a much higher base power.

2 - I'd suggest moving the Def EVs on Roobushin to SpDef. Roob already has good defense and you'll be boosting it with bulk up, so giving it more SpDef will let it survive non-super effective special moves.

3 - I'd suggest Sandstorm support as it helps Garchomp and Gliscor.

My bad, I skipped over Garchomp's ability. It helps Gliscor stall a bit with Poison and SS going. And for Wing Attack, Aerial Ace has perfect accuracy and the same base power, so If you don't want Acrobat it's definitely an option against Inconsistent.

acrobat is great when you combine it with fling, after you get poisoned you can throw your orb at something to poison them and then get a 100 bp stab move

Nah, if I wanted/felt like I had to switch to either of them, Acrobat takes the cake. I already explained why infinite accuracy is practically useless. But if I really need Acrobat's power, then I'm going to have to throw Fling in there as well. You'll be surprised at how rarely items get Knocked Off (at least in 4th gen anyway), and the Toxic Orb would've probably already served its purpose the moment I switch Gliscor in. If anyone tries to hand me a Choice Scarf at the time, all the better. As for stalling, that's not really my cup of tea: I like to get my battles over and done with. Plus it also harms Sharpedo and Shandela, so I wouldn't run it myself.

First off, get those speed EVs off Roopushin, it doesn't need them. You need SpD. Roopushin doesn't need to outspeed anything, nor can it outspeed anything important. There's no need to outspeed Blissey since it can't DO anything to you aside from Toxic and activate your Guts. One Drain Punch will kill it.

Aside from having no hazards and being Rain team weak it's a standard heavily offensive team with some good priority. Should play okay but it certainly has some trouble with anti-meta pokemon.
 
Hi Admiral, im new here, but i would like to express my opinion on a few stuff. Your team is extremely rain weak to start with. Sharpedo is not a very good anti-lead, use MSDragonite or Kerudio, they would benefit you throughout the game. You could change over Overheat to Fire Blast on Shandera to somehow start a sweep against a Shandy weak team (Accuracy does not matter due to the excellent hax rate @ PO). And if Shandy is gone, be prepared to get swept by a Scarfed Geno and Acrofling Gliscor. To cover the previously mentioned weakness, you could switch HP Ground into HP Ice for Gliscors or other pokes with quadruple weakness to ice; or into HP Fighting to have a better chance again Tyranitar switch-ins. I dunno much about Gliscor or Garchomp. Take the Attack EVs of your Roob and throw it into HP, and you don't need them much, as pokes will not like taking attacks off 140 Base Attack stat. Change the nature to Sassy (+ SpD -Spe) and run 0 Spe IVs with Payback, as you are fucking weak to Rankurusu, or run a Careful nature with RS(+SpD -SpA). Garchomp is the weak link in your team, and you could replace it to CM Birijion with 252 SpA and 252 Spe, Timid natured, Life orbed, with a moveset of CM,HP Ice, Focus Blast and Giga Drain to combat Rain teams.

And FYI, Evo Stone Chansey outclasses Blissey in terms of walling, and the only anti-metagame factor that you are affected by is Trick Room, which the Sassy Roob and stand a chance against (May you hax their Pory2 to death) Other than that, this is a pretty standard offensive that get rips apart by well constructed weather, HO and Stall teams. Roopushin should never stay in on a Rankurusu it's one of its best counters. LO Psychic will always kill the bulkiest Roopushin. Scizor handles Rank just fine with Bug Bite.

You know I gotta say that Sharpedo seems not too bad as long as your opponent doesn't outright attack you. You'll get wrecked against other attacking mon though like Machamp and Dragonite since you're just not as powerful. So it can work, you just have to play it wisely.

So yes each individual mon by themselves is alright, but I'm not seeing much team synergy or an overall goal. Each mon seems like it's there to fend for itself. How do you support each other? For instance, what do you have to soak up the Ice and Water attacks aimed at Gliscor and Garchomp who are both 4x weak to it, especially since Sharpedo is your only water type and a suicide lead? Who's there to set up Light Screen to let Roopushin Bulk Up easier? Who lays down Stealth Rock to make Zapdos, Gyarados and Ulgamoth (all decent threats) take heavy damage switching in? It's this kind of thought process that leads to successive team building.

One small step is to think of pairing your mon. Take Roopushin for example. It's extremely tough but it does have some pokemon it doesn't like. Mainly physical walls that resist fighting moves that can hit hard with special attacks. L@tias, Gliscor, Rankurusu, Zapdos, those kinds of things. A Rankurusu for example makes a great partner for Roopushin being pretty bulky with Magic Guard and can get rid of Roopushin's threats with STAB Psychic and Shadow Ball. Trick Room variants also help both of them be super fast messing up all the super fast pokemon that comprise the metagame.

So that's one quick way of making a good offensive pair while being greatly anti-meta as well. Trick Room Rankurusu will make it and Roopushin both much more fearful than usual. Swift Swimmers will be absolutely crippled as a result.

Um, think you have problems with Zuruzukin? Subpunch Zuruzu could take any of Shanderaa's attacks (except Overheat before a drop), Sub, and kill something every time.

On quite a few of your Pokemon, I noticed that you have EV spreads of: 6/252/252.
508 is the highest number of EVs; besides, 4 EVs = 1 stat point. The extra 2 don't do anything.

Correction - Stat spreads should be 4/252/252, and add up to 508, not 510.
