XY OU Hydreigon Team

Hydreigon @ Choice Specs

Levitate

4 HP/252 Sp.A/252 Speed

Naive nature (+Spe, - Sp.Atk(Tell me if I should change it))

  • Draco Meteor
  • Dark Pulse
  • Focus Blast
  • Flamethrower
My main sweeper and star of this team. I chose Hydreigon because of its large movepool which leads to very good coverage of its moves. With its Levitate ability, it doesn’t have to worry about damage from Spikes, poison from Toxic Spikes, or the lowering of its speed from Sticky Web. Unfortunately, it’s dual typing makes it 4x weak towards fairies.

Gardevoir @ Megastone

Pixilate

4 HP/252 Sp.A/252 Sp. D

Modest Nature (+Sp.Atk, - Atk)

  • Return (Pixilate = Powerful fairy STAB)
  • Psychic/Psyshock (Which is better?)
  • Calm Mind
  • Wish/Shadow Ball/Thunder Bolt
My Support/Tank. Gardevoir has high Sp. A and Sp. D which makes it a great asset to the team. Along with the megastone Gardevoir has great potential to sweep some weak pokemon with Psychic (or Physhock). As well as Garvedvoir being able to attack at high rates it can take some heavy blows from strong sweepers which is why you should sometimes open with it. Return is a strong STAB dealing good Hit points and helps you switch out to a bigger sweeper.

mamoswine.gif

Mamoswine @ Life Orb

Thick Fat

240 Atk/16 Sp.A/252 Speed

Naughty nature (+ Atk, - Sp.Def)

  • Ice Shard
  • Earthquake
  • Freeze Dry
  • Stealth Rock
I think that a threat to my team would be Rotom-W since it’s known for burning everything, Hydro Pumping everything, and using Volt-Switch. Most, if not all, of the Pokemon on my team are pretty much crippled by any type of status problem. Freeze Dry is there to defeat Rotom-W and many water types that are very common in the metagame. Stealth Rock is there to help Hydreigon score some 2HKO’s on any Sylveon or Florges that switch into Hydreigon. Ice Shard is there for priority and to pick off weakened dragons. Earthquake is Mamoswine’s strongest STAB’d move against steels types that resist the other attacking moves in this set.

Starmie @ Leftovers

Natural Cure

248 HP/32 Def/4 Sp.A/224 Speed

Timid nature (+Speed, - Atk)

  • Scald
  • Psyshock
  • Recover
  • Rapid Spin
This moveset is courtesy of Smogon. Starmie is the spinner to keep Mamoswine’s rocks on the field. Scald is for burning physical attackers since Hydreigon is not going to take hits very well. Psyshock is Starmie’s best option against opponents that can tank Starmie’s Scald such as Venusaur, Blissey, and Goodra. It can also deal a lot of damage towards a Gengar switch-in. Recover is there so it can Rapid Spin as much as it wants while keeping it in the game.

conkeldurr.gif

Conkeldurr @ Assault Vest

Guts

252 HP/252 Atk/4 Sp.Def

Adamant nature (+Atk, -Sp.Atk)

  • Drain Punch
  • Mach Punch
  • Ice Punch
  • Knock Off
Conkeldurr offers good synergy with Starmie in that it can deal with the Dark and Ghost types that threaten it. With the Guts ability, it doesn’t have to worry about being burned or poisoned because it can boost its attack stat if it does have a status problem. Drain Punch lets it last longer on the field, Mach Punch is for the priority to weaken opponents that are low on health, Ice Punch is for dragons and Gliscor that may switch into Conkeldurr, and Knock Off is for getting rid of the opponent’s item that they are most likely relying on. Knock Off also deals heavy damage towards the many frail Psychic and Ghosts that may switch in to Conkeldurr.

EDIT*************(Used to be Scizor)
645-therian.gif

Landorus-Therian @ Choice Scarf

Intimidate

4 HP/ 252 Atk/ 252 Spe

Jolly Nature (+Spe, -Sp.Atk)

  • Stone Edge
  • Earthquake
  • U-turn
  • Iron Tail
Thank you very much to user Pokerpoker for this recommendation of replacing scizor with Landorus-T. The prime use for Landorus-T is to protect the team from being completely sweeped by flying/fire type pokemon such as Charizard-Y, Moltres and especially Talonflame. With this Landorus moveset he can OHKO a talonflame with stone edge. As his Choice Scarf was a tricky choice but Landorus has to be fast at taking out the sweepers.

the first thing I would change about this team is Hydreigons nature.
if you gave it a speed beneficial nature, it would outspeed gengar, latias and latios, all quite large threats to hydreigon (other then gengar, unless it runs gleam.)

your team also looks like it would have great difficulty dealing with a talonflame, with your only real answer being hydreigon if it takes a Bravebird/Flare blitz, it'll live but if it doesnt get rid of the talonflame next turn it WILL sweep you, nothing on your team can take more then a single brave bird or flare blitz.

Research on the talonflame; (Rest of team, ie conk or scizor rboth are weak to blitz/brave, so 0% chance of them really living it.)
252+ Atk Choice Band Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Gardevoir: 334-394 (120.1 - 141.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
(334, 339, 342, 346, 351, 354, 358, 361, 366, 370, 373, 378, 382, 385, 390, 394)

252+ Atk Life Orb Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Gardevoir: 290-343 (104.3 - 123.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Life Orb Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 222-263 (68.3 - 80.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
(222, 226, 227, 230, 234, 235, 238, 242, 243, 246, 250, 251, 253, 257, 259, 263)

252 SpA Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Talonflame: 280-331 (93.9 - 111%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO meaning you arent gaurantee to OHKO which can be a massive problem.

I'd suggest replacing scizor with Landorus-T.
I can easily take a brave bird from talonflame as shown here;

252+ Atk Choice Band Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Landorus-T: 171-202 (53.4 - 63.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
(171, 174, 175, 177, 180, 181, 183, 186, 187, 189, 192, 193, 195, 198, 199, 202)

-1 252+ Atk Life Orb Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Landorus-T: 149-177 (46.5 - 55.3%) -- 70.3% chance to 2HKO

But, with the set I like to use on landorus-T as shown below; which i would replace scizor for:

Landorus-Therian (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Iron Tail

Gives a solid check to talonflame, with a gauranteed OHKO with stone edge, can dodge EQ, soak up electric moves, and provide coverage with fairies (which also covers one of the reqs you use scizor for) with iron tail.

(also outspeeds most things that are a threat to it, so doesnt tae unwanted hits if you need to uturn)

Thanks very much for the reply dude, the research is so helpful I'm SO glad you did this. Cheers! I will be replacing that scizor.

You're welcome, I'm still fairly new to giving advice/helping people with teams, so I try to be as descriptive as possible.

tell me how it works out. :)
