Hey folks, I've been playing Pokemon online on one format or another since Gen IV. Back then I discovered the idea of Dual Screens HO, allstars of the time being Azelf or Espeon as my screener, and then setup beaters like Gyarados, Salamence, Tyranitar, Lucario, Scizor, Kingdra etc.
I carried on the idea in Gen V, but the idea was not as effective. I then took a break from battling online, only occasionally logging in to bash some faces with the most hyper aggressive mons I could find (Virizion and Blaziken when he first got speed boost come to mind!)
Now in Gen VI, I am trying to get back into the competitive scene, especially with the facilities for battling online in the actual games now, I figured testing a team on PS, then breeding and training it on X/Y, sounds like great fun!
So here is the team I have so far, in no particular order. Partly my own creation, partly inspired by similar teams I have found floating around the forum:
Salamence @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 SpA
Naive Nature
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Outrage
Salamence is pretty much my late game sweeper, his moves give him decent coverage (although I'm wary of his lack of a steel move to hit fairies in the face with) and his EVS, nature and Scarf make sure he outspeeds almost everything short of priority and maybe Deoxys-S. His Moxie points stack up quickly once he gets going, and I have had a few situations where hes KO'd 4 pokemon on his own!
Excadrill @ Life Orb
Ability: Mold Breaker
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 Def / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
I needed a Rapid Spinner, and I think another Steel type on this team, so Excadrill seemed like a good choice. He has the usual offensive EV spread, with Jolly to give him the best chance of hitting first. Rockslide covers the pesky fliers that EQ cant hit, and Swords Dance is so he can set up behind my Screens (although so far I have not done that once)
Talonflame @ Choice Band
Ability: Gale Wings
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Sleep Talk
Talonflame is a HOUSE! Brave Bird being priority is a magical thing, Sleep Talk was a tip I picked up to soak up sleep and keep going. Choice Band makes him hit like a runaway train no matter what he uses, and having been on the receiving end of him also, he's hard to wall effectively.
Espeon @ Light Clay
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Espeon is my dual screener. I've been taken with the idea of screens and setup since I first saw it done in Gen IV, and this is no exception. Psyshock is for the obvious STAB, and HP Ice is my obligatory coverage move. It was always HP Fire in the past, but with Talonflame and no Ice types I thought I'd give Ice a go.
Generally speaking she allows Lucario or Azumarill their setup time, they are the 2 I go to most often in this team.
Azumarill @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Superpower
- Play Rough
- Belly Drum
Azumarill is incredibly offensively strong, Belly Drum just makes him hit so much harder than I could have imagined, and Huge Power contributes to its strength enormously as well. Aqua Jet and Play Rough are both STAB, Superpower is for the few things that wall both of these, IE Ferrothorn, and just to OHKO the big bulky steels. I cannot stress how much I like this Pokemon!
Lucario @ Lucarionite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Timid Nature
- Vacuum Wave
- Dark Pulse
- Flash Cannon
- Nasty Plot
Last but not least, Mega Lucario! He is again pretty powerful as a sweeper, and between him and Azumarill, those 2 do the majority of the damage this team puts out! Vacuum Wave being priority is lovely, especially with Adaptibility, and then Dark covers Psychic types and Steel covers Fairies. I like the special version because he is hard to wall, and Nastly Plot on the switch followed by a nice big Vacuum Wave is just awesome!
So there's my team, I hope the descriptions are long enough! I can't see any issues with each pokemon as individuals, but when I play the team it feels like theres some kind of hole there, I just can't figure what it is!
I do have issues with Gliscor, and sometimes Aegislash too (although I think thats more just because that pokemon is a nightmare to play against!) but other than that I have nothing more than a general feeling to go on.
Thanks in advance!
