First, since this is my first time on the Forums, I am TCG Trainer Ethan. Been here since the D/P era, and have been lurking here and there, but I either had no time or thought I didn't go on here enough to get on the forums.
This is the best team I've had since I've been on PO(finally cracked 1100 for once), but I'd like to see if I can improve the team or if it's more my poor strategy that's keeping me from getting higher.
Lucy (Gardevoir) (F) @ Gardevoirite
Ability:Trace/Pixilate
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 212 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hyper Voice
- Psyshock
- Shadow Ball
Frankly the whole reason I made the team in the first place(mostly because I like the shiny Mega Sprite and wanted Gardevoir to have some use this time around, which the Mega evo definitely helps with.)
Trace comes in handy with some abilities like Storm Drain or Flash Fire in switch-ins, and Timid so it doesn't get outsped. She mostly plays as a Dragon killer/Late-game sweeper. Will-O-wisp helps deal with physical attackers, while the rest of the moves are type coverage(with Hyper Voice more for general STAB coverage due to a great SAtk.) EV spread is typical Special Sweeper spread, with a tilt to Sdef due to her good SDef.
Land Master (Landorus-T) (M) @ Assault Vest
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 124 Atk / 52 Def / 80 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- U-turn
- Knock Off
He is the guy that does disruption and one of my physical attackers. While Gardevoir uses burn to deal with Physical, he does most of the work with dealing with Physical Attackers due to Intimidate. Assault Vest helps him tank special attacks he wouldn't normally endure and Adamant nature is to supplement his beautiful attack. Earthquake and Stone Edge are for type coverage(and to deal with Aegislash, who is a great annoyance) and U-turn is for scouting. Finally, Knock off is to disrupt people who rely on items to get power( and has a tendency to seriously hurt, if not OHKO special attackers). EV spread seems a bit random, but it helps him to take more hits while keeping a good offense.
Pokey (Kyurem-B) @ Life Orb
Trait: Teravolt
EVs: 100 Atk / 180 SAtk / 228 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Roost
- Fusion Bolt
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
I still wonder why people don't use this guy more, since he does wonderfully as a guy who pokes holes in teams while doubling as a very fine Mixed Sweeper. It's a typical Life Orb set( w/ Roost for survivability), with a few changes. EV spread and Nature are tilted towards speed since his bulk is solid, his attacking stats don't need too much investment, and the extra speed has saved me more that once.
Stache Power (Alakazam) (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Psyshock
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Energy Ball
My status taker/Revenge Killer. Focus Sash helps him deal with super-effective moves or if he gets outsped. Magic Guard is a beautiful ability that keeps him from many hazard, status and sand deaths. His moveset is mostly type coverage for revenge kills( and for those wondering about Energy ball, I need a grass move to deal with Water/Grounds and the ever-annoying Rotom-W). EV spread emphasizes his speed and SAtk, while I chose Timid because I need the speed for said revenge kills.
Lati (Latias) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Defog
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Psyshock
- Draco Meteor
I had a Weakness Policy/ Dragon Dance Dragonite in this spot, but this led to the team getting destroyed by hazards. Lati is my answer to said hazards. Leftovers gives her some survivability. Defog gets rid of Hazards, HP Fighting deals with annoying steels and darks, and Psyshock and Draco Meteor are STAB moves(with Meteor over Pulse since she trades more bulk, which I like, for lower offensive stats than her brother.)EV Spread helps her do some damage while Defogging and Timid makes sure she isn't outsped.
Mama Bear (Tyranitar) (F) @ Chople Berry
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
Quiet Nature (+SAtk, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Pursuit
- Crunch
- Fire Blast
She is one of my favorite pokes and usually heads my teams(a remnant of my way of dealing with the weather wars of last gen: sand.)Her role here is to act as a nice Mixed Tank and to soften up the other team. I thought about making her an assault vest user, but I needed at least one hazard to help with the sweeping, and she got the short straw. In turn, I took a Chople berry to laugh at Focus Blasters like Gengar and Alakazam and countering them with a nice Crunch or Pursuit. Sand Stream is the ability not just because unnerve is useless on my team, but because it helps with softening up the opposing team( and a nice SDef bonus for her and Land Master is good too.) Steath Rock is for hazards, Pursuit and Crunch for STAB and physical attack, while Fire Blast helps deal with steel and Grass once Pokey goes down and helps when the inevitable burn comes around.EV spread makes her a tank while the nature let Fire Blast do actual damage.
Thus ends my first foray into the forums. Any improvements or critiques are very much appreciated.
