I Brought My Bombs. Did You?

I.B.M.B.
I Brought My Bombs

(The Extreme Explosion Team)

Short Introduction:
The basic idea of this team is to abuse explosion’s ridiculous base power and defense halving effect. In lamans terms, the objective of this team is to blow up. Every team member is equipped with Explosion and a variety of moves to conquer anything that could potentially wall or sponge a blast. Of course speed is a necessity to get off Explosion before your opponent can KO, so everything on the team (except gengar) has Choice Scarf seeing as they’ll only be in for one turn most likely. Every pokemon should be able to take one with it before it goes down.

A Closer Look At The Team

azelf.png

Name: IED (Improvised Explosive Device)
Pokemon: Azelf (Psychic)
Item: Choice Scarf
Evs: 252 Sp.Attack, 252 Speed, 4 Attack
Nature: Lonely(+Attack/ -Defense)
Ability: Levitate
Moveset:
~Explosion~
~Flamethrower~
~Grass Knot~
~Shadow Ball~
Strategy: The Lead off. This little triangle of fun starts the entire chain of events that leads to a very swift exciting battle. Explosion fo course is the obvious key move in this set. Most leads with taunt will expect stealth rock, taunt, and then will be blown half way to hell. Flamethrower gets rid of any pesky steel types that could potentially sponge up an explosion (void heatran). Grass Knot takes care of bulky water and grounds that might not fall to Explosion. Shadow Ball is very important to take care of the ever dangerous Ghost type pokemon that is very threatening to this team as it completely avoids damage from explosion.

drifblim.png

Name: MOAB (Massive Ordinance Air Blast)
Pokemon: Drifblim (Flying/Ghost)
Item: Choice Scarf
Evs: 252 Speed, 252 Attack, 4 defense
Nature: Jolly(+Speed/ -Sp.Attack)
Ability: Aftermath
Moveset:
~Explosion~
~Sucker Punch~
~Body Slam~
~Knock Off~
Strategy: This is pretty much the same as Azelf. Explosion being the key move with sucker punch to back it up and scare off ghosts. (Body Slam and Knock Of are just there because I couldn’t think of any better moves.)

s_metagross.png

Name: MacGyver
Pokemon: Metagross (Psychic/Steel)
Item: Choice Scarf
Evs: 252 Speed, 252 Attack, 4 HP
Nature: Jolly (+Speed/-Sp.Attack)
Ability: Clear Body
Moveset:
~Explosion~
~Bullet Punch~
~Earthquake~
~Ice Punch~
Strategy: This guy and Heatran do a lot of switching around to reset Scarf. Bullet punch clears off and Sashed users Azelf couldn’t handle. Earthquake and Ice Pucnh just give great coverage. Explosion, is not always the first move choice here as Metagross has great type coverage and the ability to switch in and out to switch attack. Nonethe less Explosion is always the move of choice when at low HP or in the face of something that cannot be otherwise KOed.

heatran.png

Name: Jughead
Pokemon: Heatran (Steel/Fire)
Item: Choice Scarf
Evs: 4 hp, 252 Sp.Attack, 252 Speed
Nature: Hasty (+Speed/-defense)
Ability: Flash Fire
Moveset:
~Explosion~
~Fire Blast~
~Earth Power~
~Dark Pulse~
Strategy: Your standard ScarfTran. Dark Pulse takes care of Ghosts while the rest of the set is pretty standard. Again, like Metagross, Tran is not one of the team members that you go blowing up all willy nilly. He has great resistances and coverage and is a great asset to this team and is one of it’s few means of getting an number advantage so the end of the match isn’t 1 vs. 1.

shiftry.png

Name: Shrapnel
Pokemon: Shiftry (Grass/Dark)
Item: Choice Scarf
Evs: 4 Hp, 252 Attack, 252 Speed
Nature: Jolly (+Speed/-Sp.Attack)
Ability: Early Bird
Moveset:
~Explosion~
~Seed Bomb~
~Fake Out~
~Sucker Punch~
Strategy: Originally a Quilfish, I decided I had too much ground weakness. This guy works just as well. Explosion is the main move here again, though sucker punch clears those pesky ghosts, and seed bomb takes care of bulky ground and waters.

gengar.png

Name: Fission
Pokemon: Gengar (Ghost/Poison
Item: Life Orb
Evs: 4 Attack, 252 Sp.Attack, 252 Speed
Nature: Hasty (+Speed/-Defense)
Ability: Levitate
Moveset:
~Explosion~
~Shadow Ball~
~Thunderbolt~
~Focus Blast~
Strategy: The teams anchor. Many times this guy is the only reason the team wins. Often times with all the explosions each being a 1 for 1 attack, the match ends up with Gengar who is normally the last to show his face on this team, against the opponents last pokemon. Being the only unscarfed pokemon on the team Gengar provides the ability to cover many types without having to switch. Explosion is only to be used in dire situations for Gengar. Focus Blast Takes Care of Steels Walling the rest of the team, Shadow Ball Takes care of ghosts, and thunderbolt give decent coverage.

Threats: I am not going to make an actual threat list persay since most things would simply be followed with “Blown Away with explosion” or something like that. Instead I’ll just give a basic description of what basic things could potentiall ruin this team. Basically anything that resists Normal attacks, and has decent defenses can potentially wall this team, acting as an explosion sponge. Main problems here are Steel and Rock types. Scizor, Metagross, Shuckly, Rhyperior, etc. I have moves to deal with these, but still since everything is scarfed, one the opponent catches on, it’s easy to stall out my team. Even more dangerous that steel and rock types are ghost types. ANY ghost type can potentially wall my entire team. I’ve been walled by a Gengar…. Since Explosion doesn’t hit at all, it’s easy for the opponent to predict when I’m going to detonate, and they can switch in their ghost type to absorb the attack, while my bomb still dies. I tried to put a ghost countering move on just about everything on the team but alas, often times these moves don’t OHKO the ghost, or the Ghost out speeds somehow and OHKOs me.

haha, i didnt even know lickilicki could learn it :P

SD Explosion on Lickilicki is a OHKO on the entire game except ghosts and Rock/Steels. Additionally, Belly Drum Smeargle Explosion can do the same (or close to it). STAB Explosion is just beastly.

ic, well, explosion in generaql is beastly :P. other than rocks, steels, and ghosts, every explosion that has hit, from everything on my team has been an OHKO except for one from my drifblim on a salamence, but it had been passed some defense boosts or something -_- plus belly drum and sd dont seem worth it to me since it'll just be dieing in one turn anyways :P and even if it doesnt OHKO with an explosion its easy to bring in a non-exploding revenge killer since everything is scarfed.

An interesting team, but what if your opponent's lead has Focus Sash? How about a suggestion for a new lead?

s_metagross.png

Name: MacGyver
Pokemon: Metagross (Psychic/Steel)
Item: Occa Berry
Evs:
252 HP / 236 Atk / 12 Def / 8 Spe
Nature: Jolly (+Speed/-Sp.Attack)
Ability: Clear Body
Moveset:
~Explosion~
~Bullet Punch~
~Earthquake~
~Stealth Rock~

Bullet Punch to ruin the opposing lead's Focus Sash, then set up Stealth Rock to ruin future Focus Sashes (or the other way around). Then you proceed with your strategy since Metagross is fairly bulky.

haha, focus sashes don't tend to be a problem. i simple blow up first turn, they have 1 hp, metagross comes in and bullet punches for the KO.
Though i like the looks of stealth rock. i may give this set a try

No Forretress?

I've had an explosion team for quite a while now, and some of your guys are replicas of some of my team ;) However, you may want to replace Shiftry with Forretress (and mine is called shrapnel too, incidentally :D), because he is a BEAST. Try this set;

Forretress@Leftovers
HP244/Atk74/Def192
Impish Nature

Earthquake
Explosion
Rapid Spin
Toxic Spikes

Basically, the EV spread means he can take on insane attackers suck as DD boosted T-Tar, Salamence, Dragonite and co, whilst still having the attack to Blast them away with explosion. Also, he is the best Scizor/Metagross counter I have EVER seen; he doesnt even have to explode to rid you of them, just EQ

Also, for your lead, try my Azelf set, I've found him a brilliant lead;

Azelf@Focus Sash
HP4/Atk252/Spe252
Timid Nature

Explosion
Reflect
Stealth Rock
Taunt

This guy is a the best anti-lead. The EV spread means you outrun unscarfed versions of max speed Gengar/Infernape/Salamence, which is INVALUABLE, so you can SR and explode. Also, you can taunt SR leads, of which you will be faster, and force them to attack you. Then you have SR set up against your opponent, they're taunted so they can't SR you, and then you Explode taking out their SRer. Since you'll be switching in and out a lot, this is invaluable. Reflect is something if you have a free turn.

Also, try this EV spread on Gengar: Atk76/SAtk182/Spe252. This gives you more of a powerful explosion, and this is the set I use, and he can KO most things now, severely denting Pokes such as T-Tar and KOing standard Milotic half of the time.

Why don't you try preventing Stealth Rock from being set up alltogether first turn with a Fake Out/Explosion Pokémon? (read: Shiftry):

Shiftry @ Life Orb/Focus Sash
Jolly
4 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spe
- Fake Out
- Taunt / Sucker Punch
- Explosion
- Seed Bomb / Sucker Punch

Fake Out will break their Focus Sash first turn, Taunt prevents Swampert, Hippowdon, Metagross, Heatran (If you opt for Focus Sash) and Bronzong from setting up their Spikes, whereas Sucker Punch will stop Azelf from Attacking. Explosion goes with your Strategy and Seed Bomb is for coverage against Swampert and other Pokemon weak to it.

Steel types might become kind of a Problem, so Magnezone could be a reasonnable option (although Heatran might do the job just as well). Be also aware of Pokemon with Protect (Vaporeon/Blissey), when the opponent realises your strategy as with all the choiced Pokemon, this might actually prove to be quite an issue. And make sure you get rid of Pursuiting Tyranitar quickly as he resists Explosion and can hurt 3 fleeing members of your team quite badly. The same is true for a scarfed Dugtrio if you're locked into the wrong move and Magnezone can easily switch into Metagross (Bullet Punch/Ice Punch) and Heatran (Dark Pulse) and simply wear them down (in the case of Bullet Punch, Magnezone with Substitute might prove especially dangerous.

For an Azelf lead whose purpose is to do damage and then explode, why does it have Choice Scarf? Give it a Focus Sash. Or keep the Scarf and put some more EVs into Attack.

I dont think that every member of your team should be Scarfed...Heatran and Metagross are sturdy enough that they can probably use a Life Orb, and have the ability to switch attacks. Its not like you need ScarfTran as a revenge killer, when thats what about half your team already is :p

Explosion teams have always been super fun to me, though, and I cant wait to fight this team on Shoddy! :D

@nightrain, that fortress looks like it could work, it might be a better anchor than gengar, or it could work greatly hand in hand with him.

@cerulean, ooooo, i might try that shiftry. thats a good idea, sashes would no longer be a problem XD im deffinitely going to try that set for a lead.

@nightrain+snorllaxxz, I don't like lead azelf. this azelf works wonders ^.^ people expect rocks on the first turn with a sash and explosion. The azelf I use is basically a 1 for 1. swampert gets OHKOed by grass knot expecting rocks, flamethrower 2HKOs bronzong normally, shadow ball help mid game against ghosts if he survives. and well explosion on the first turn which is how i normally act has cought many an aerodactyl off gaurd, letting thier 1 hp remaining be destroyed by gross. This team is based more around 1 for 1 attacks. If I get a chance to kill something without exploding, i take it, otherwise I die. The object is basically get the battle to be 1 on 1 in the end, exploding the entire enemy team before they can do anything, hence all the scarfs.

Azelf's Base Speed is 115. The only common lead that outspeeds that is Aerodactyl, and he tends to Taunt, then set up rocks, then be dead. Other Azelfs won't defeat you unless they explode as well.

Seriously, Choice Scarf is useless on that Azelf.

I would suggest this set if you are going for an offensive suicidal Azelf:

Azelf @ Focus Sash
Naive Nature
252 Speed, 252 Sp.A, 4 Attack
Psychic
Flamethrower
Shadow Ball
Explosion

Not your common lead Azelf, however, it can break the oh-so common sashes that about half of the leads have, if you face another Azelf, exploder, you can live, and explode, giving you a 2-1 advantage. Psychic kills Infernapes, Shadow Ball Ghosts, and Flamethower for Steels.

Although, the Shiftry set above could be useful as well.

Now, not everything needs a scarf. What is the point of everything being scarfed, when someone who's figured out your team could wall you with Gengar/Rotom + Blissey?

Gengar vs Driftblim
Withdraw Gengar, send out Blissey, absorb Shadow Ball
You have to switch.
Send out something else.
Gengar comes in as you attack Blissey, probobly on an Explosion.
Ect, ect. Your team gets thinned down.

Due to this, the pokemon I see being best for countering this is your Metagross. Turn it into a standard Agiligross, which still use Explosion, and outspeeds even the Scarf Metagross. You can run a Life Orb for added power as well.

Scarfgar also kills your team, sure, it'll have to switch in and out, but if it times it on Explosions, it outspeeds your whole team, and is capable of OHKO'ing them. Not to mention the fact it gets a kill just by switching in.

On Heatran, replace Dark Pulse with HP Ice/Dragon Pulse. A Super Effective Dark Pulse has 160 BP, a STAB Fire Blast has 180 BP. No Ghosts outside of Ubers resist Fire Attacks.

I also don't think Azelf needs the Scarf, and that you should try some of the suggestions already made in this thread, but that's up to you.

Give Drifblim HP Fighting for coverage.

I'm not sure if any Pokemon can do this, but Fake Out > Explosion takes care of Sash leads. Though setting up SR is helpful to break any future Sash users. Physically defensive Swampert leads can probably survive your Azelf's Explosion.
300 Atk vs 152 Def & 404 HP (250 Base Power): 353 - 416 (87.38% - 102.97%) (Approximated attack stat)

um ok, the edit button for my first post doesn't work for some reas -_- so Im just gunna put the update right here.
I made shiftry the lead. he has sash, fake out, explosion, seed bomb, and sucker punch. He works amazingly :D Fake out breaks all sashes. Sucker punch takes care of ghost lead like gengar, seed bomb ends swampert, and explosion takes care of everything else for the most part. realy only steels get by, but after an explosion its easy for tran to come in for a revenge kill. I am going to test metagross and azelf as different set now, but Azelf late game with that same set has been wokring wonders, finishing steels like luke off with flamethrower and ghosts like gengar with shadow ball.

Edit: new changes. Shiftry has still been working wonders and is now permanently the lead. Azelf has been woking great to come in unscarfed after shiftry blows up. Metagross however has not been doing to great as an agiligross. I switched him back to the scarfed version and he has been doing much better since. I also was getting annoyed with how drifblim rarely OHKOed with explosion or sucker punch, so i switched him to a scarfed skuntank, same evs, nature everything, but slightly higher speed and attack. MOves are explosion, sucker punch, pursuit, and flamethrower. he has been working great too, especially since pursuit catches a bunch of gengars ^.^
