Hello there! So this is my first forum post, and for it I want to get some help on my oldest, and most favorite, team. I used monobug in the 4th gen OU, where it preformed far better than expected (which is my way of saying that it won a couple of times). Then with gen 5 I made additions to the team using the new toys at my disposal. It runs well in OU and Monotype battles, but I feel like it can be better. So, enough of my gabbing, here it is:
Yanmega (F) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Speed Boost
EVs: 100 Def / 252 SAtk / 156 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Air Slash
- Bug Buzz
- Protect
- Hidden Power [Rock]
Yanmega is usually my leader, even though the lead metagame is dead. The things that give me the most problems are bulky dragons and things like Zapdos. I hate Zapdos. I use Air Slash and Bug Buzz as the main STABs, with Protect to stop Fake Out and/or nab a Speed Boost. Hidden Power Rock is for less bulky variants of Zapdos and Fire types.
Volcarona (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Flame Body
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Bug Buzz
- Quiver Dance
- Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Ground]
Volcarona is my set up special sweeper. I try to use him as soon as possible to punch holes into the team for Heracross and Scizor to clean up. Bug Buzz and Flamethrower are my STAB. I don't use Fire Blast because a miss can cost me the game. And Hidden Power Ground is for opposing Fire types that resist both.
Scizor (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Atk / 216 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- Roost
- Superpower
- Swords Dance
Here's the physical beast. I keep him back until late game where I can grab a nice Swords Dance or two. He's great. Bullet Punch is his bread and butter, and Roost adds to his survivability. Superpower is there to take out those pesky steels, and as a last ditch power move when needed.
Forretress (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin
- Gyro Ball
- Toxic Spikes
My spinner, since my team absolutely needs one. Bugs being weak against Stealth Rock (in particular Volcarona) really hurts me. I enjoy Stealth rock more than Spikes, and I do love Toxic Spikes for my sweepers. Gyro Ball is there so he can't be taunted out.
Heracross (F) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Close Combat
- Megahorn
Here's my revenge killer. Heracross is so amazing, and he gets some nice coverage with this set. Though Skarmory gives me big problems due to being so bulky. Aside from his STAB, Stone Edge and EQ are just there as hard hitting moves. I can switch them out if the coverage is too redundant.
Galvantula (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Compoundeyes
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Thunder
- Bug Buzz
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Energy Ball
Galvantula is here to get rid of what the rest of my team cannot. Namely Flying types, Dragons, bulky Waters, and things vulnerable to special attacks (if Volcarona died). Compound Eyes makes Thunder usable, with Hidden Power used to take care of dragons, and Energy Ball used to kill big water Mons.
