I have thought of something that may, or may not be legendary!

Ok listen to this.

A SPECIAL GYARADOS!!! w/ CHOICE SPECS!!!!
A + special attack natured gyarados with a specs comes out to a special atack stat of 360!. This would throw off so many people that they wouldnt no what hit them, with the right moveset of course :naughty:

Dragon Pulse

Hydro Pump/ surf = your choice

Fire Blast/Flamethrower = once again your choice

Thunderbolt/ Thunder = goes without saying....

another option is ice beam...

I really think, that a specsdos could have some serious potential, I could be as famous as Expert Evan, ZOMG! lol well, i intend to breed one for just for kicks, if you guys have ne comments or suggestions please do post.

Thats... interesting, but would it work? I'll have to look up what the most common Gyardos switch ins are before I can make a final decision.

Right now, Ice Beam for Tangrowth and Thunderbolt for Mantine (lol) come to mind : |

Once you let the cat out of the bag (that it's special), in comes Blissey or Cradily to wall you and kill you off. You'd have to mixed at the least, with Waterfall for STAB and the possibility of flinching.

well

gyrados is the only poke that carries

hydro pump, surf, fire blast, flamethrower, thunder, thunderbolt, blizzard, and ice beam

imagine making a special counterpart of gyrados (same exact BST but attack and defense switch with special attack and special defense) and learning those moves

i don't think anything resists that, the closest i think is a heatproof bronzong and a dialga

Well, you know someone just posted a set similiar to this one. I've also thought of this. It is very creative, don't get me wrong, but unfortunately, it just won't work as good as the standard one.

Smeargle immediately disproves that.

Blissey is lawling on the floor, Heatproof Bronzong is rarely used, and Diaruga is neutral, or resists, them. There's no point in wasting Gyara at all. >_>

I thought about this awhile back, and did a lot of calculations on it - it does OHKO a lot of its common counters (skarm, tangrowth) and destroys the dragons too, while being able to take a nice hit. Down side is, Blissey walls you immediately after, and no mixed set will help that. So its a one, maybe two time surprise kill

Oh, gosh. Do you seriously think that a set based off 60 base stat with no stat-raising move would work? And it really isn't that surprising. Let's see what counters Gyarados: Cresselia and Dusknoir don't care about the special attacks and prefer it to DDed Waterfall, HP Electric Waters might dislike Thunderbolt, but won't die instantly and the "surprise" is ruined, leaving Gyarados as a feeble flopping fish, Porygon2 and Gardevoir with Trace don't care just like Cress and Dusk... Granted, Weezing and Tangrowth may be caught off-guard, but you're basically sacrificing the whole of Gyarados to kill them, which isn't worth it.

Yeah I agree with Great Sage. The most used Gyarados counters are Cresselia, Dusknoir, HP Electric/Stone Edge Swampert, and HP Electric Waters in general (Slowbro, Vaporeon), and the only useful thing your set adds is the ability to do a little more to those bulky waters that aren't Swampert, but even still you won't be hurting them all that much. Even with Specs you can't OHKO 136 HP / 0 Sp. Def Starmie, doing 95% max, which is just an indicator of how little you'll do to beefy stuff like Vaporeon and Milotic.

And your other moves don't really accomplish much, except maybe killing charge Beaming Bronzong, and I guess Tangrowth / Weezing, but they are much smaller problems for Gyarados than Cress / Dusknoir / Bulky Waters, all pokemon tha5 this set doesn't even really scratch, and as Great Sage said, you're completely sacrificing Gyarados' versatility just to hit those rarely used counters

I could see a little merit in maybe running a surprise mixed set like DD / Waterfall / (Stone Edge / Ice Fang) / Thunder @ Life Orb, to get the jump on Bulky Waters (not named Swampert), and downing Skarm faster so Brave Bird doesn't kill you, but even then, with Gyara's shitty Sp. Atk, you usually won't do enough to justify going mixed, let alone all special.

If that's what it boils down to, why not use a Choice Specs Exploud? He's got every single one of those save for Hydro Pump, he gets STAB Hyper Voice, AND he's got base 91 Special A.

HAHAHAHAHAHA try lanturn. heatproof bronzong pfft.

I'd just as well go with Hydro Pump/Blizzard/Thunder/Fire Blast. With that SpAtk, you'll need to perform a 120-power move in order to deal respectable damage. And since you're risking this, you might just as well risk everything.
