Alright, here we go. I haven’t been serious about battling since 2008, so jumping into a brand new generation has been daunting to say the least. Please forgive me for the lack of images, but I’m at work and can’t add them at the moment. I’m looking for constructive criticism and feedback, especially any glaring weaknesses or synergy issues. Thank you.
Hydreigon
@ Life Orb
Levitate
Modest | 252 Special Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP
-Draco Meteor
-Dark Pulse
-Fire Blast
-Taunt
Choosing an effective lead has always been difficult for me. I don't like the Focus Sash/Stealth Rock suicide leads because it just feels like a waste of a slot. I would much rather prefer to switch a wall into an attack it can easily sponge and then set up Stealth Rock then. Hydreigon is a huge offensive threat, but when opponents see it as a lead, they usually expect it to be Choice Scarf'd, giving me the advantage. Draco Meteor is the big hitter, while Dark Pulse provides a nice STAB attack without the special attack lowering drawback. Fire Blast hits Scizor and other Steel-tyes, however I might consider changing this to Flamethrower for the better accuracy. Fire Blast just seemed like the better choice with the Life Orb. Taunt is used over U-Turn because it usually works out well in the cases that the opponent is under the impression I am running a Scarf. They switch to a wall/tank to sponge a Draco, only to be taunted, preventing status/healing moves. Overall, a nice lead, but I am still looking for a better one; one that can be more effective in more situations.
Ferrothorn
@ Leftovers
Iron Barbs
Impish | 252 HP, 48 Defense, 208 Special Defense
-Power Whip
-Leech Seed
-Stealth Rock
-Thunder Wave
When it came down to picking a physical tank, I opted for Ferrothorn over Gliscor due to the availability of Leech Seed and Thunder Wave, as well as it's amazing synergy with Jellicent. I do not like having Power Whip as my only attacking move, because it is resisted by Breloom, who is also immune to Leech Seed and sets up on me all day. Stealth Rock is self-explanatory. I would like some suggestions for this set.
Jellicent
@ Leftovers
Water Absorb
Bold | 248 HP, 216 Defense, 44 Speed
-Scald
-Taunt
-Recover
-Ice Beam
The special sponge. Pairing up with Ferrothorn allows for some nice coverage. Scald is the primary attack, hopefully burning the target. Taunt is for slower walls, as well as Calm Minders and Bulk Upers. Recover is the healing move, and Ice Beam is for Dragon-types.
Landorus
@ Choice Scarf
Sand Force
Naïve | 252 Speed, 252 Attack, 4 Special Attack
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-U-Turn
-Hidden Power (Ice)
Every team needs a Choice Scarfer, and Landorus stuck out to me as a great candidate. Great typing, good type coverage when it comes to attacking and access to U-Turn is always a plus. Earthquake is the main STAB attack, Stone Edge for coverage, U-Turn for prediction/scouting and HP Ice for Dragons.
Conkledurr
@ Leftovers
Guts
Adamant | 252 Attack, 136 Special Defense, 120 HP
-Mach Punch
-Bulk Up
-Drain Punch
-Payback
This guy is such a beast. I love bringing him in late game and wrecking what remains of my opponent's team. His natural bulk is only enhanced through Bulk Up, which also makes his Mach Punch extremely lethal to fast foes. Drain Punch provides healing, and Payback hits those pesky Ghost-types.
Infernape
@ Life Orb
Blaze
Jolly | 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP
-Flare Blitz
-Close Combat
-ThunderPunch
-Swords Dance
Swords Dance Infernape. Epic win. Flare Blitz and Close Combat for powerful STAB moves, and ThunderPunch destroys Tentacruel and Jellicent after one dance.
