I Like To Rain On The Suspect Ladder!!

You Guessed It! It's a Suspect Rain Dance Team!!!
The Lead: Azelf
482.png

Azelf@ Focus Sash
Timid w/ Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 6 Atk / 252 Spe
-Rain Dance
-Explosion
-U-Turn
-Stealth Rock

This is a suicide lead like the Ape that was previously here, only this also gets Rocks set up alot of the time. U-turns away from MEtagross leads who are nastily common in todays meta, and lets Zong set up rocks.

The Rain Dancer: Bronzong

437.png

Bronzong@Damp Rock
Impish w/ Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SpD
-Gyro Ball
-Reflect
-Rain Dance
-Earthquake

EDIT: Put in EQ to OHKO Specs Jolteon, as he causes havoc for my team.

This is here to start it raining. He has equal balanced defenses EVs and maxed HP to take hits as well as possible. Reflect for additional support and Hypnosis because it is the most reliable sleep move I could fit on this team. He originally had Explosion over Gyro Ball but I decided that if he Exploded and Rain Dance ran out, my team is stuffed. Therefore to make sure he didn't get so close to dying, I put this in...

The Special Wall: Blissey
242.png

Blissey@ Leftovers
Bold w/ Natural Cure
EVs: 148 HP / 252 Def / 110 SpD
-Wish
-Protect
-Seismic Toss
-Ice Beam

This is a wish passer to make sure Bronzong isn't decommissioned too early so i end up with half a match without rain. ST and Ice Beam to rack up some continuous damage. I also put this in to wall Specs Jolteon who caused havoc for thsi team. There was Vaporeon here before.

The Physical Sweeper: Scizor

212-f.png

Scizor@Life Orb
Adamant w/ Technician
EVs: 32 Hp / 252 Atk / 224 Spe
-Swords Dance
-Bullet Punch
-Superpower
-X-Scissor

This is my favourite member of the team, purely because he's so devastating, and because of the Rain, he doesn't have a 4x weak to Fire anymore! So now the walls that run HP Fire and rely on the 4x will be stuffed! Its pretty kool. This is owned by any special attacker that runs HP fire or any kind of fire move, especially if they get STAB, so I'm using...

The Late-Game Mixed-Sweeper: Kingdra
230-f.png

Kingdra@ Life Orb
Naughty w/ Swift swin
EVs: 252 Atk / 240 SpA / 16 Spe
-Surf
-Draco Meteor
-Outrage
-Waterfall

This is a late game cleanup and Mixed wall breaker. Fits well with the team. Used to be a Tentacruel but a RD team needs to be offensive so I added this instead.

The Manaphy: Manaphy

490.png

Manaphy@ Leftovers
Timid w/ Hydration
EVs: 80 HP / 176 SpA / 252 Spe
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Tail Glow
-Energy Ball

EDIT: Oops! Forgot Manaphy got Energy Ball so I put HP Grass on it instead. Fixed this.

Acts as a status absorber for my team, and also the main special sweeper. It uses surf as its main STAB (taking advantage of Rain and STAB), Ice Beam to take out Dragons quickly and easily and HP Grass for Pert who troubles my team. Tail Glow to boost up.

Any comments?

One thing I noted is that you have nothing to absorb electric attacks. Specs Jolteon is fairly common on the suspect ladder, and your team doesn't have anything that can really take a Specs Jolt Thunder(bolt) easily...or at all.

You need more than one set up for Rain. I would suggest replacing Infernape for a Suicide Azelf instead.

Azelf @ Damp Rock
Jolly Nature
Levitate Ability
EVs: Hp 252, Atk 6, Spd 252
~ Rain Dance
~ Stealth Rock
~ U-Turn
~ Explosion

This way you can get Rain and possibly Stealth Rock up straight away, meaning Bronzong can be saved for later. Otherwise you seriously risk having to sweep in 7 turns of rain, with Bronzong possibly dieing due to no healing besides Wish passing. Azelf can U-Turn the rain to another 'mon and come back later or Explode on a threat.

I would also say that you are not taking full advantage of the rain tbh, Kingdra works well on suspect due to all of the Surfs being thrown around, so I would definitely try fit him in somewhere, maybe over Vaporeon now that you aren't only relying on Wish passing to keep your rain alive. Kingdra can also use Rain Dance so he isn't stuffed when Azelf explodes and Bronzong dies.

One final thing, if Rapid Spin on Tentacruel is only for TS then it doesn't matter, as Tenta absorbs them when he switches in and Manaphy shrugs off Toxic with Hydration anyway. Stealth Rock does no real damage to your team, so I would suggest replacing Rapid Spin for Knock Off or HP [Electric], to either ruin a Choice user, or for another counter to Gyarados, if you get rid of Vaporeon.

Yeah, a couple of comments:

Manaphy has Energy Ball, so it does not need HP Grass. The only reason you would use a HP over Energy Ball is if you really wanted an Electric type attack to hit Gyarados with. Also, since you have rain support, you might want to try Rest over one of your attacks. Being able to set up further because of your huge survivability beats just getting another 50% off of your surf only.

You need a second dancer. Try it on your lead. Lead Azelf as suggested works fairly well, but he gets beaten down by the common Metagross lead.

Your team currently consists of three Pokemon weak to electric and three Pokemon who are neutral to electric. This means a fast and powerful electric attacker (Scarf Rotom, Specs Jolteon, etc) will be able to tear through most of your team. Particularly anything that can set up.

All of these posts highlight similar things so I will get to work on that now.

I have decided to try the aforememntioned azelf over Ape. Because I have Zong to set up a full rain I will go for Sash ro Scarf on Azelf to guarantee getting atleast rain up. I could then replace Vappy with a Wishbliss to wall specsJolt and give Tenta HP Electric over Rapid Spin as I have no problem with SR and I forgot that he absorbs TS xD.

Oh, and I forgot about Mana getting Energy Ball.

So now my team is as follows:

Azelf with Rain dance+SR / Torrential Zong / WishBliss / Scizor / Tenta w/ HP Electric / Manaphy w/ Energy Ball

Rain teams are all about keeping up the offense with high speed and relentless attacking to overwhelm the opponent. Your does not accomplish much without the abuse of swift swimmers and powerful attackers.

Change the leadape to the Azelf previously mentioned. You'll be surprised how well 252 HP Azelf can take hits.

Both Tentacruel and Vaporeon don't fit . Yes, they like to play in the rain, but overall they aren't the best abusers. Consider powerful sweepers like Kabutops, Ludicolo, or Kingdra in place of Tentacruel and Vaporeon, who are only slowing your team down.

Over Tentacruel, I would put Ludicolo with Surf/Ice Beam/Energy Ball/Focus Punch. Acts as one of the better early game rain sweepers with its decent defenses and ability to take down common deterents to rain, such as Celebi and Vaporeon. Focus Punch is an awesome move if you have good prediction skills for the Bliss that will come in. With the right EVs, a Focus Punch to surf in rain will KO Bliss, allowing another special rain sweeper to come in and wreck shit. I think the EV spread is something like Mild 120 Att/252 Special Att/rest in speed (I think it reaches 210 speed, 420 in rain). It also has that delicious grass move that you want on Tentacruel.

If you're worried about stall teams without Tenta to absorb Toxic Spikes, use the Rain Dance/Surf/Rest/Calm Mind Manaphy set to ruin stall teams. Stall teams will most likely have Hippowdon as their Sandstorm, who will not threaten Manaphy at all even with two turns of rest. The thing stopping it is Perish Song Celebi. To help with that, I would use a Pursuit Scizor. After it takes a Pursuit switching out, I doubt it can take a +1 Surf from a (hopefully) faster Manaphy (I don't know the EV spread for the Manaphy set). Your choice if you want to put Choice Band on Scizor, because rain teams shouldn't allow free turns. Life Orb should do the job.

You don't need a wish passer, so replace Vaporeon with a good physical rain sweeper like Kabutops, Quilfish, or Kingdra. They all have their merits. Kabutops can threaten a scary Zapdos in rain, who is usually a problem for rain teams, and Gyarados.

Hypnosis is very unreliable in Platinum, use Explosion. That Bronzong will pull you through anything.

So to recap: Lead Azelf, Bronzong, Scizor, Ludicolo, Kabutops, and Manaphy. Try it out. Good luck!

EDIT: also read Legacy Raider's excellent guide on rain offense. It should be one of the articles for DP.

Right, after seeing that last post, and thinking more about the above posts, I have made a few changes:

Changed Ape to Azelf mentioned above to set up Rain early and possibly rocks if I get round to it.
Added EQ on Zong to help chech specs Jolteon
Changed Vappy to WishBliss to do the same Wishing job but to wall Specs Jolteon aswell
Changed Tenta to Kingdra. I don't much care about TS as that chaneg makes Kingdra the only one to actually be hit by it. Also makes the team more about the point of Rain Dance teams by abusing Swift swim as an excuse to almost max my offenses, and purely by dint of being more offensive.
Put Energy Ball on Manaphy over HP Grass. Didn't know Manaphy got it, my mistake!
