i never do this. seriously. (warstory)

i'm not the most confident battler out there. some of the peeps on shoddy who know me might be able to tell you that--i've recently resorted to playing nonstop cycles of cascada's "bad boy" in order to enhance my battling abilities. (it worked for husk during smogon tour, and was in fact his suggestion. :D)

when it comes to playing in OU tourneys, i usually don't take them seriously, opting to use a UU team just for fun. but, after actually beating fishy in a UU match first round (she is a much better UU battler than i am, for totallies), i decided maybe i'd try to get to the finals in a little 8-person OU tourney mystica was holding the other night. i pulled a win versus n3on in the second round, and was launched straight into the finals against "team uber"'s stone_cold22.

gag. i knew he beat max in the semis, and i'm absolutely positive max is a better battler than i am. this was not going to end pretty.

this is the story.

what's up, earthworm?
i'm really very fond of this particular team, as it's been my most reliable and overall successful OU squad. i'll be making some comments in italics about the significance of the nicknames i used for the pokes, which are based on both characteristics and appearance. i'll also reveal stone_cold22's team as we go, but if you're impatient just scroll to the bottom to get a glimpse of his full team.

ryomou sent out Sonsaku Hakufu (lvl 100 Gyarados [F]).
TU-Stone_Cold22 sent out Azelf (lvl 100 Azelf).
Sonsaku Hakufu's intimidate cut Azelf's attack!

sonsaku hakufu: the leader of nanyou gakuen, it was revealed in season two of ikki tousen that she harbors a dragon (fighting spirit) whose element is water. kind of a no-brainer nickname.

Mystica2 has entered the room.
Gouki has entered the room.
Mystica2: LETSGO GO GO GO GO GOGOGOOG
Executive Koala has entered the room.

azelf is a pretty standard lead that gyarados makes a semi-decent matchup to. most variants don't run thunderbolt these days, so if i really wanted to i could do a VERY risky dragon dance and attempt to start sweeping. however, knowing that azelf usually leads for offensive teams, i'd better save gyara for later--deoxys might be waiting in the wings and gyarados is the only thing on my team that could possibly outspeed it. thanks for the intimidate, hakufu--you did your job as a lead.

ryomou switched in Gakushuu (lvl 100 Bronzong).
Azelf used Stealth Rock.
Pointed stones float in the air around your foe's team!

gakushuu: one of the four devas, or four strongest fighters in nanyou gakuen. he has a rather heavyset appearance and is solid muscle; slow, but his amazing ability to take a hit, combined with the immense power he packs in each punch, makes him a really scary opponent. hooray, bronzong! incidentally, this is the only thing i have in common with earthworm's team.

as expected, really. gyarados usually does switch out of azelf, so that gives the opponent a free turn to use stealth rock. nothing that i like, but not a huge deal either. gyro ball 2hkos azelf, even with the sash in mind, so i'll probably see him switch out. gyro ball is liable to do a decent amount of damage to whatever comes in, assuming that it's an offensive team, so i choose it and hope for the best.

Lucario lost 22% of its health.
Gakushuu's leftovers restored its health a little!
Gakushuu restored 6% of its health.

mm, that's interesting. without a swords dance, lucario doesn't do anything mind-blowing to bronzong beyond resisting gyro ball. i can't risk him coming out in the lategame, though, as he stops weavile cold and is liable to ruin gyarados after one or two SR switch-ins. better deal with him now.

gakushuu: 38% and still standing, lucario: FNT
6-5: ryomou

sort of a "meh" turn. lucario isn't a problem any longer, but 'zong is pretty much useless now. no chance to set up the always-useful stealth rock, but hey, he took out one pokemon, he didn't do too bad by my standards. hopefully losing him won't be too devastating for me in the later game.

Gakushuu lost 39% of its health.
ryomou's Gakushuu folded.

gakushuu: FNT, garchomp: 100% and locked into outrage
5-5: TU-Stone_Cold22

i sure didn't expect that. 39% seems like way too much for outrage to do on 'zong, so i'm gonna take a wild guess and say it's got a choice band. not like it really matters to me, though; even if it's scarfed and outspeeds me, scarf outrage isn't gonna do squat to heatran, and i've got hp ice for exactly that reason. i'm feeling nice and sassy right now.

Mystica2: like Scary Movie! :D

i don't really want a dick in my ear, virtual or not.

ryomou switched in Toutaku Chuuei (lvl 100 Heatran).
Pointed stones dug into Toutaku Chuuei.
Toutaku Chuuei lost 12% of its health.

toutaku chuuei: the tyrant leader of rakuyou koukou. when ryofu housen came gunning for his life, she killed both him and herself in suicidal chi explosion in order to change the fates. appropriately, this scarftran carries explosion. why didn't i nickname heatran "ryofu"? simple, really--i don't like her.

Cynthia has entered the room.

TU-Stone_Cold22 switched in Metagross (lvl 100 Metagross).

looks like i don't have any weaviles or aerodactyls to worry about. :3

at this point i was feeling pretty good about my ability to sweep. all i'd have to do is wait for an opportunity to sneak in gyarados somehow, dragon dance a couple of times, and "good game". i admit it felt a little too easy, especially since i still had two unknowns to deal with, but at that point i wasn't too concerned. time to send out miss physical wall.

dpfba472.png
dpmfa376.png

ryomou switched in Ukitsu (lvl 100 Gliscor).

ukitsu: an immensely powerful fighter from gogun koukou, spent her time looking out for hakufu while she was alive, and usually fought hampered with 40kg weights on each limb. as my gliscor is a physical wall/support pokemon, i felt this was somewhat appropriate, especially considering that gliscor has more possibilities than just physical walling--a bit symbolic of that 40kg weight thing, though probably a bit of a stretch.

Ukitsu used Earthquake.
Ukitsu's attack missed!
Ukitsu's leftovers restored its health a little!
Ukitsu restored 6% of its health.

ukitsu: 99%, gengar: 100%

gengar? that strikes me as a little odd. if he wanted an earthquake immunity, why not azelf? this is a little too "astral projection" for comfort. i sure hope n3on isn't a prophet or something. deoxys would be MAJOR trouble at this point in the game. thankfully, the standard gengar only packs two moves--hypnosis and shadow ball--that are likely to hurt gliscor. i'll take my chances and guess shadow ball, he's been playing conservatively enough that i won't expect a surprise focus blast.

ryomou switched in Toutaku Chuuei (lvl 100 Heatran).

no life orb recoil and the low power output tells me he's probably scarfed. fire blast threatens the OHKO no matter what, so i choose it. gross definitely isn't coming in on heatran, but it'll nonetheless put a load of hurt on whatever he switches in. :3

TU-Lakers: My dick in or around your ear?
TU-Stone_Cold22: my chomp is real easy to kill
TU-Stone_Cold22: 303 speed, adamant, cb

"mmm, crap"? probably the understatement of the century. forget dual screen or cosmic power deoxys, this is the variant i hate the most. as tired and cliche it might be, it's so gigantically effective when used properly (like so) and saved for lategame. plus, the one pokemon capable of OHKOing deoxys was dispatched by garchomp early in the match, and the other one is sitting here uselessly at 34%, not nearly enough to survive a superpower. i'm so distressed i can't even feel good that i predicted the CBchomp right.

at least i won't have a dick in my ear.

i panicked. i'm barely thinking at this point. there are a lot of mistakes during the next few turns that could've been easily avoided if i just remembered deoxys-e has somewhat underwhelming attack stats and jolteon's good special defense makes dealing with it a piece of cake, especially at -1 atk. in any case, i have no trouble with my very next move, which is attempting to get jolteon in at 100% health. bait-and-switch?

ryomou switched in Ryomou Shimei (lvl 100 Jolteon).

ryomou shimei: this one's perhaps the biggest stretch, but SOMEONE had to be ryomou. she's my favorite anime character of all time...obviously. in ikki tousen, ryomou is another of the four devas of nanyou, just like gakushuu. her strong suits in battle are using submission moves, chi blasts, and she's also extremely fast. yawn is sort of a submission move (though in a much less direct sense here), while high special attack and speed go without saying. probably most importantly, jolteon is my favorite member of this team, and she's allowed me to grab a whole bunch of wins that i wouldn't ever have had otherwise. let's hope she pulls through for me now, yeah?

Pointed stones dug into Ryomou Shimei.

Ryomou Shimei restored 13% of its health.

ryomou shimei: 100%, deoxys-e: 90% and thankfully at -2 atk

n3on: dam predict that shit
GuyLaroche: durrrr

excellent. volt absorb negated the stealth rock damage, just like i wanted, and deoxys is a -2 atk sitting duck (or sitting outer-space-alien-virus-creature-thing?) now, i know i could've easily set up a sweep right here, and that the fact deoxys switched out here meant there wasn't a psycho boost in sight, and that i should've remembered gengar was scarfed, but i was still extremely jumpy. i use yawn, as it's my best option at this point: if deoxys manages to 2hko me somehow, it falls asleep. if it switches, i have a substitute set up and ready to pass. not a bad situation for me, really, but, blinded by fear, i'm about to make some way-too-hasty decisions.

TU-Lakers: FUCK

no, i don't get it either. but i think i agree.
completely ignoring the OBVIOUS choice scarf, i choose thunderbolt for a sure 2hko. reviewing this, i realize that if i passed to weavile already, i could've potentially grabbed 2 swords dances and swept away, but on the other hand, my stupid choice here actually set me up for the win by dealing some crucial damage to gengar. not like a shadow ball locked gengar would stay in on weavile, anyway.

Gengar used Shadow Ball.

ryomou switched in Shuuyu Koukin (lvl 100 Weavile).
Shuuyu Koukin is exerting its pressure!

shuuyu koukin: another one of nanyou's four devas, and in my opinion, the coolest one after ryomou. he's a ridiculously powerful fighter, for his appearance, but if you can get past his surprising speed and overall basic moves, koukin is really quite defensively inept and falls to one or two hard hits. if that doesn't scream "weavile" i don't know what to tell you.

psycho boost is the one move that would definitely KO me, so if he goes for that, i plan to switch right into hakufu for -1 atk and -2 spatk. then jolteon would definitely win in the end. obviously, if i remembered that he switched out of jolteon around midgame, i would've known that there wasn't a move on him that could really hurt me.

i'm pretty goddamn surprised myself. i never win tourneys. never. but i guess with a little bit of confidence and a little bit of cascada, winning a tough battle is something that ANYONE can achieve. for all the unsure pokemon battling kids like me out there, please keep at it! you can't know what you're capable of unless you try.

obligatory props and slops, which i admit i never really liked but it seems appropriate right now so here they are
props:
-team uber's stone_cold22, for an excellent fucking game.
-np: cascada - "bad boy"
-a well-played and well-hidden deoxys-e.
-ryomou shimei, for pulling me through in the end. ^-^

slops:
-sonsaku hakufu, for doing absolutely no damage.
-gakushuu, for being nearly as useless as hakufu.
-me, for completely losing my head when deoxys-e appeared.

There are many good warstories but this was the only one that had me in the edge of my seat in the end. Great read and warstory.

I only read this since it envolves stone and ikki tousen. Everyone loves stone. Good match btw. <3

I only read this since it envolves stone and ikki tousen. Everyone loves stone. Good match btw. <3

I dont love stone.Great match suprise he would use outrage so early and the ending was hiliarious.

This was an excellent battle with good commentary and the occasional sprite adding visual flair.

I rolled my eyes when I read the italic text though. I know there are plenty of people who would find that kind of stuff interesting, but it did not do it for me. Different strokes for different folks I guess :/

Props for using something original, ie Jolteon and Weavile =d

Lucario was wasted in this battle; He should have sacked Azelf instead of Uturning =[

thanks for the comments, guys!
nice to see there are a few ikki tousen fans around as well.

@earthworm: i'll take you up on that offer next time we might get the chance. :)

Lol yeah ive been banned for the past month.

GG man. I just used my laddering team since people used the same teams these days.

I forgot about intimidate which is why I superpowered....wasn't very smart of me lol.

I really don't like Stone sometimes but this was a pretty good battle.

Agreeing with pocket, that lucario was needlessly wasted :/
