I Still Hate OU

I Still Hate OU

I've always hated standard play, I love looking out of the box for awesome underused mons. Most of the time they recieve little to no success. So I finally broke down and made a standardish balanced OU team.

Darmanitan @Choice Scarf
Ability: Sheer Force
Ev's: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
-Flare Blitz
-Rock Slide
-Superpower
-U-Turn

This set just absolutely wrecks! 140 Base attack stat with a sheer force boost on a 120 BP move! Literally when not in the rain, I OHKO everything that doesn't resist it (Bar Gliscor) With great coverage and U-turn which allows this thing to scout, this is my favorite lead. The opponent has no idea what to do. Sac their lead to it or switch in a wall who will most likely get 2 hitted.

images

Jellicent @Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
Ev's: 252HP/172 Def/84 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
-Will-O-Wisp
-Surf
-Taunt
-Recover

Jellicent is my main check to ever so common fighting types (ahem... terrakion) I can switch in on a fighting type immunity then burn. This also is a great forretress counter. Taunt will shut it down. Overall this thing checks numerous threats that would destroy my team. Also it helps against rain teams with water absorb.

images

Ferrothorn @Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
Ev's: 252 HP/140 Def/116 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
-Leech Seed
-Spikes
-Gyro Ball
-Power Whip

Probably the scariest wall combo JelliThorn!!!!!! This is a pretty standard Ferrothorn. Duo Attacks which actually are amazing. As power whip perfectly covers Rotom-W and Rain teams in general! as gyro ball just laughs at terrakion, not that I'd be staying in on a terrakion unless it is scarfed and I am at full health. Because this custom spread allows him to take a close combat from adamant 252 attack terrakion when after stealth rock damage. Leech seed helps out against Blissey.

Heatran @Air Ballon
Ability: Flash Fire
Ev's: 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
-Fire Blast
-Earth Power
-Hidden Power (Ice)
-Stealth Rock

Thanks to Jirachi Air Ballon Offensive Heatran was added. This thing after utterly destroys mons with its monstrous 394 SAtk and great coverage. It ever so nicely patches my Gliscor weakness since it has HP Ice. Overall just a great addition to my team acting as the glue. It also allows me to give Ferrothorn an extra move thanks to this thing taking the stealth rock burden.

images

Latios @Expert Belt
Ability: Levitate
Ev's: 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
-Recover
-Draco Meteor
-Surf
-Hidden Power (Fire)

Expert Belt Latios is amazing Countering numerous pokemon in the metagame with fabulous speed and decimating special attack. A great movepool allows this set to cover everything and with recover to save him from hazards he is a threat to be reckoned with. He helps my team by adding extra power and speed that it oh so desperately needs.

images

Conkeldurr @Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
Ev's: 216 HP/252 Atk/8 Def/32 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
-Mach Punch
-Drain Punch
-Facade
-Payback

Guts Conkeldurr is a boss! Facade off of 140 base attack stat and a guts boost is not something to joke around with. Mach Punch gives him amazing priority to crush top-tier threats such as Terrakion. Payback destroys latios/latias and Jellicent. This often wears down fast so Drain punch is a much needed recovery. In sandstorm though this set never lasts more than four turns... so I tend to save this guy until late game, just to clean things up. As he greatly succeeds in since most of their team is just ruined with paralyzation from rachi, burn from Jellicent, Holding an unwanted choice specs, or just crushed by Darmanitan. I will often inflict as much possible damage with Latios and then once it dies (if it dies) I bring in conkeldurr to clean up.

____________________________________________________________________________________________

So this is my team. It does quite amazing, but does have it's losses. I see from these losses it needs improvement. So I would love some criticism! please rate and comment. Don't be scared to suggest lower-tier pokemon, I actually would love for you to suggest lower-tier replacements!!

Changes in RED

If you want you could use aerodactyl over the scarfer since you desire lower tiered pokes. aerodactyl speed ties jolteon. He can learn aqua tail and can force the opponents scarfer out which, when I have used a hone claws set, I let it die or choice lock it to something ferrothorn can come in and kill it with gyroball. (As most scarfers are vulnerable to gyroball)

This is the set:
Aerodactyl@Life orb
Trait:pressure
Nature:Jolly
Evs: 252 Atk, 252 Speed, 4 HP
Moves:
Hone claws/taunt
Aqua tail
Stone edge
roost

The question with the first slot is a question of power or utility. Taunt stops skarmory and others from setting up entry hazards while hone claws gives it the power it needs and making stone edge a perfect accuracy move. Aqua tail can where down glscor and punch heatrans brutally. Stone edge is stone edge. Roost gives it recovery which it get a surprising number of times to do it.

I hope you consider aerodactyl. It is a great partner for any ferrothorn.

I'm actually liking that set a lot! I will test this out. I find that darmanitan destroys everything but Gliscor is on every team and i need an answer. I will try this

Have you ever considered Psycho Shift Sigilyph?

591.png

Sigilyph @ Flame Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
Nature: Bold
EV's: 252 HP/200 Def/52 Spe
Moves: Cosmic Power, Stored Power, Psycho Shift, Roost

This Pokemon is definitely not standard yet can still hang with the Big Boys of OU. I remember way back in the day when I used to use this guy, he was such a boss. Not only could he effectively set up and sweep, but he could also cripple opposing sweepers and act as a decent wall to man threats in OU. Give him a try and he probably wont disappoint.

Hi

VolTurn teams can be quite annoying to this team as everything is beaten by either Scizor or Rotom-W. As they start spamming U-Turn and Volt Swich your team will get weakened pretty quickly and they can use their other moves to take you down easily, such as Superpoer from Scizor on Ferrothorn. Without any Rapid Spinner you could find yourself with a team in very bad shape after a couple of turns. VolTurn is currently probably the most popular playstyle in OU and ALL of them use at least Scizor and Rotom-W. Both are used together even outside of standard volturn so it might become a really big problem. My suggestion here is that you swap your current Latios set for an Expert Belt version. Latios is a very good switch in to Rotom-W, as it will either use Volt Switch or use a move that Latios doesn't really mind, such as Hydro Pump or Will-O-Wisp. Most of the time their reaction to Latios will be going to Scizor, which is outsped by Latios and will get blasted by a x4 effective Hidden Power Fire.

Another thing that your team might not appreciate is the offensive version of Quiver Dance Volcarona. In the sun and at +1, it can OHKO your whole team with Fire Blast, except for Latios which is quickly taken out by Bug Buzz. Fiery Dance, the weakest fire move Volcarona can carry, 2HKOes Jellicent and OHKOes Darmanitan after Stealth Rock. Considering you have no way to change the weather on this team and the perfect set-up bait for Volcarona in Ferrothorn, you might get swept by it quite often. You should probably try Heatran to be able to fix that Volcarona problem. Heatran is immune to Fire moves and is x4 resistant to Bug moves, as well as having a mighty powerful Fire Blast that will do a lot of damage to the moth. With Stealth Rock and a spin blocker I think you should be fine if you change your Jirachi for this Heatran. Also, Air Balloon Heatran can be an okay check to some of the Gliscor variants, such as SubToxic which often only carries Ice Fang or Earthquake as only attacking move, however you should scout a bit to see what set it runs before.

You could also use Stealth Rock instead of Roar on your Heatran and get something like Spikes+Leech Seed on Ferrothorn, or something cool like Thunder Wave that really helps your team against dangerous threats.

Good luck!

edit: Yes, as both fill approximately the same role as Specially Defensive Steels. Sorry if that wasn't clear, I thought I mentioned it.

Hey there.

Your team could really use Rapid Spin support. Volt-Turn is a much bigger problem because you have no way to get entry hazards off the field, and Scarf Darmanitan cannot truly be as much of a threas as it could be otherwise due to take 25% from Stealth Rock every time it comes in; a lot of teams run Spikes too, and that can make your life even more painful, especially since the majority of your team lacks recovery. Therefore, I'm going to suggest running a Forretress over Heatran. Forretress can spin away the entry hazards the plague you, retain the ability to set up Stealth Rock, and also beats Gliscor through the use of Hidden Power Ice. Jellicent can cover most versions of Jirachi well enough anyway.

Forretress @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SAtk
Relaxed nature
-Rapid Spin
-Stealth Rock
-Volt Switch
-Hidden Power Ice

Solid team. Hope I helped, and good luck!

As others have said, this team could use spin support. Besides that, I think Leftovers overall work better on Conkeldurr as pokes like Gliscor can take advantage of his burn and stall out his hp
