Ice Mono Team (RMT)

After lukewarm (more like freezing, hahahaha) recpetion to my last attempt at a mono ice team, I spent the afternoon redrafting it to be (hopefully) at least a little bit better.

Criticism is more than welcome, especially if it finds massive flaws in my team, but can we not deride ourselves through personal attacks or treating people like a n00b unless they act like one...join date shouldn't matter, being an arse should...

Anyway I digress (I've decided to talk a little after each poke rather then just post them):

Abomasnow @ Choice Glasses
Mild - EVs: 252 HP/ 6 ? / 252 Sp.Atk
-Blizzard
-Grass Rope
-Focus Bomb
-HP Electric

"Standard" Abomaspire, or so I'm told. Blizzard to make use of the hail and STAB, Grass Rope destroys anything heavy (Tyranitar, Garchomp etc) plus it gets STAB. I prefer Focus Bomb over Punch because I dislike the waiting period, personally, and because i can concentrate more EVs into its Sp.Attk. Blissey doesn't take as much of a hit though...

Can anyone suggest an alternative to HP Electric if I can't get it in game with the right nature? I don't really plan on using competitor or netbattle.

I really dislike the choice items though...

Mamoswine @ Black Steel Orb
Brave - EVs: 252 Attack, 84 HP, 125 Sp. Def, 40 Defence
-Earthquake
-Snow Slide
-Ice Pebble/Rest
-Stone Edge

I really like this set, I haven't seen it around (there's probably a reason for it, but I like it), I'm dubbing it "Steelswine". Earthquake gets STAB and can hit everything (not that you would necessarily want to), but electrolevitate gets disabled Magnezone gets owned, Staraptor takes quite a hit too. Snow Slide will always go second getting a 120 base attack powered attack, plus Steelswine's massive attack and STAB.

However, is ice pebble's always go first rule applied before or after the B.S.O? If so I'm going for a quick, strong STAB'd pebble, if not a rest to prolong the 'swine, it is bulky enough to use it, especially with the EVs. Stone Edge to deal with OU.

Weavile @ Choice Band/Life Orb
Adamant - EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP
-Ice Punch
-Blade Test
-Brick Break
-Aerial Ace/Scissor Cross

But I really hate limiting myself to just one move, hence why I lean more towards the Life Orb, besides it has pretty low defenses anyway, its not like it is going to take many hits anyway...other than that this Weavile is pretty standard.

Glaceon @ Leftovers
Modest - EVs: 252 Sp.Attack, 129 Def, 129 Sp.Def
-Blizzard
-Water Pulse
-Shadow Ball
-Wish/Fake Tears/Mirror Coat

Pretty standard, 'cept I can't choose the final move, help me...
I figured that Glaceon is more bulky in its defenses than most, so it is semi-sweeper, semi-tank.

Unsure about the EV spread or item, help needed.

Froslass @ Leftovers
Timid - EVs: 252 Speed, 84 Defence, 84 Sp. Def, 86 Sp. Attack
-Blizzard
-Shadow Ball/Thunderbolt
-Spikes/Thunderbolt
-Destiny Bond

Again, pretty standard, I'm unsure whether Froslass can cope with spikes and leaving itself open. I like the STAB of Shadow Ball over Thunderbolt, but do I want to be repeating Shadow Ball as I already have it on Glaceon?

MY SIXTH POKE IS BETWEEN TWO:

Walrein @ Leftovers
Brave - EVs: 252 HP, 84 Sp.Def , 125 Attack, 40 Def
-Rest
-Curse
-Sleep Talk/Earthquake
-Waterfall

Basic tank, perhaps not as bulky as it could be but it'll do the trick. Curses over and over until needs to be healed by rest or sweeps with Earthquake/Waterfall, one of which is vital for chasing out the fire types.

I'm undecided about sleep talk at the sacrifice or earthquake, and I may use thick fat over ice body, despite the hailing situation, to deal with those pesky fires and especially those pesky mixed infernapes.

OR

Lapras @ Leftovers
Modest - EVs: 252 HP, 84 Sp.Def , 125 Sp.Attack, 40 Def
-Blizzard
-Surf
-Rest
-Sleep Talk/Thunderbolt

Bulkier with more HP, but less efficient at chasing away the fires and complimenting the weather. Will I need thunderbolt if I have it on Froslass?

WHICH ONE?

Obviously my entire strategy revolves around the creation and maintaining of a hail storm, but changing weather pokes Cherrim and Manaphy might put a spanner in my works. Last time I put hail on my moveset but was laughed at for it...

The list of OU counters:

Tyranitar: Grass Rope or Focus Bomb on Abomasnow, Earthquake on Steelswine and Brick Break on Weavile

Gyarados: Thunderbolt from Lapras or Froslass, Grass Rope?

Infernape: Massive problem...earthquake from Steelswine, aerial ace on Weavile, Water Pulse from Glaceon, Waterfall and Earthquake from Walrein and Surf from Lapras. Still, 4/6 of my pokes are very weak to it...

Azelf: Levitate is taken care of by Steelswine, its def is weak enough to be brought down by an earthquake, snow slide or stone edge. Weavile cannot be touched by it, but its explosion could cause problems for it. Glaceon murders it with its high def and shadow ball, but flamethrower is a problem for all.

Rhyperior: argh...ooh, grass rope, earthquake, brick break, water pulse, surf/waterfall...admittedly its ability is going to be a pain.

Electivire: Steelswine (I'm just going to use the names of the pokes)

Heracross: Problem...

Salamence: Anything ice = dead

Togekiss: Steelswine, Weavile, Glaceon

Gengar: Steelswine, Glaceon?

Garchomp: Ice = dead...

Raikou: kind of a problem, Steelswine should work, but if it has HP ice or grass this could be a problem, but if I'm on wi-fi unless it is hacked the chances of findin one with that are quite slim.

Lucario: Weavile, Steelswine, Abomasnow, Walreain

Starmie: Lapras, Froslass , otherwise is a problem

Weavile: Abomasnow, Weavile

Alakazam: Glaceon, Froslass, Weavile

PorygonZ: Massive problem, because it is so versatile, Abomasnow, Weavile, maybe

Snorlax: Weavile, Abomasnow

Blissey: Big problem, Abomasnow, Weavile, Steelswine

Suicune: PROBLEM

Ninjask: Glaceon, Weavile, Steelswine, Froslass, Abomasnow

Metagross: Steelswine, Glaceon, Walrein

Manaphy: The biggest problem of them all, if it uses rain dance to heal itself then I lose my hail. If Abomasnow is fainted then I have a massive problem with my pokes mainly knowing blizzard...perhaps some should know hail...?

Any help would be appreciated...I hope that I did better this time...

Look through your counter list again.

Can Weavile switch in on Lucario? No.
Can Abomasnow switch into Tyranitar? No.

You don't seem to understand what a counter really is. It has to be able to actually switch in without dying.

Also, Black Steel Orb is doing nothing for Mamoswine but slowing him down. Nothing else, it only affects the holder.

Snow Slide is believed to be an Ice version of Revenge. If that's the case, it automatically goes last even if you don't have the Blacksteel Orb.

I also don't think you were treated particularly poorly in your last post, so don't make yourself to be the victim here. You posted a really bad team that showed little thought (seriously, Mist???) - did you really expect glowing reviews?

Anyways, I think it is pointless to list the threats in D/P and then pretend to be able to counter them all. The fact of the matter is, a mono team (esp. ice) will be severely disadvantaged in standard competition. 5 of your guys are weak to Fighting, 5 weak to Rock, 5 weak to Fire, 5 weak to Steel. A number of Pokemon will sweep you, and none of your guys can really take a hit from something like Heracross.

EDIT - but yes, this is certainly an improvement from your last post. I'm glad you used the Search function and learned from old threads.

Mono teams generally are bad. Stick to about 3 pokes at most that have the same weakness. On top of that, your team has a stealth rock weak which is never good. If anything gets a speed pass from ninjask vs your team. GG.

Thanks for your help, so by a counter, you mean that they should be able to switch into a pokemon?

I swear the black steel orb works on others, is their a research thread which disproves me?

Also, Walrein or Lapras?

EDIT: Rapid spin does remove stealth rock doesn't it?

A counter must be able to safely switch in on the majority of moves a Pokemon is likely to use, then either kill them or force them to switch.

Read the Item Research thread near the top of the forums.

in your abomasnow description, you listed grass rope as a garchomp killer... maybe its just me, but i think blizzard would do the trick just fine.

i also dont like water pulse on glaceon, its just not a good attack. mirror coat looks really appealing in its place :)

Thanks,

After looking back at my old squad I realise just how appauling it was. By comparison this miles better...

Any other major problems with the squad? I may replace aerial ace with pursuit on wevile...should I?
