[SET COMMENTS]
Thanks to its sky-high Defense stat, reliable recovery, and excellent utility, Avalugg is a useful defensive piece on Ice teams. It can check physical attackers with great efficiency, in addition to being one of Ice teams' best answers to Barraskewda under rain. Rapid Spin allows Avalugg to clear entry hazards for teammates such as Kyurem and Alolan Ninetales. Body Press allows it to threaten dangerous threats like Kingambit and Hisuian Arcanine. Iron Defense works excellently with Body Press, and Avalugg finds plenty of setup opportunities under Aurora Veil and snow. This turns it into a potentl wincon against Fighting and Dark teams once checks such as Iron Valiant and Darkrai have been removed. Avalanche can be used instead to deal massive damage to Flying-types like Gliscor and Dragonite and prevent them from setting up on Avalugg. This move also prevents Avalugg from being completely walled by Ghost teams. With Mirror Coat, Heavy-Duty Boots, and Sturdy, Avalugg can be a reliable emergency answer to any snowballing special threats such as Volcarona and Flutter Mane.
Avalugg walls physical threats best with snow and Aurora Veil support. Therefore, Alolan Ninetales is a perfect teammate. In addition, Alolan Ninetales can threaten Keldeo and Kommo-o for Avalugg, while it can switch into and threaten Kingambit for Alolan Ninetales. Avalugg is a complete liability against Ghost-type threats, as Gholdengo and Hisuian Zoroark are able to easily set up on it. Therefore, Weavile makes a strong ally to deal with Ghost teams. Similarly, Avalugg struggles to do much to Fire- and Poison-type targets such as Heatran and Okidogi. Mamoswine makes a great teammate, as it can tank hits from these foes while threatening them back with Earthquake. Cloyster is also a great because it can offensively threaten Fire teams after a Shell Smash. Avalugg cannot beat opposing physical walls such as Toxapex and Skarmory. Kyurem makes an excellent teammate, as it is able to remove these walls for it.
