Illumise (QC 0/2)

[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 8+

**Price Range**: 1-2 Points

**Overview**: Despite Illumise’s reputation as a dex-filler & generally forgettable Pokemon, it gains excellent use as a low cost support Pokemon due to Prankster & its surprisingly deep support movepool. With access to Prankster, & moves such as Encore, Tailwind, Thunder Wave, & Wish, Illumise can find itself as a decently well rounded support user. Even with its deep movepool & fantastic ability, it leaves much to be desired in terms of typing & stats.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Support**: Illumise can function at its best when using support sets to help its teammates, crippling the opponent rather than dealing damage outright by itself. Even though it lacks in defensive stats, it can take most neutral hits effectively while it uses moves such as Thunder Wave or Encore to disrupt the opponent. Tailwind is a great move for Illumise, as after being set-up, it can allow slower teammates to seamlessly outspeed their respective threats.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: U-turn, Struggle Bug

**Setup Moves**: Do not use Growth ever.

**Utility Moves**: Encore, Light Screen, Roost, Tailwind, Thunder Wave, Trick, Wish, Charm

**Coverage**: Giga Drain

Niche Moves
========
**Infestation**: Infestation allows Illumise to trap & slowly chip away at Pokemon that might pose a threat to the more valuable members of your team. But due to Infestation being a damage dealing move it is unaffected by Prankster, allowing your opponent to switch out before it is trapped, leaving Illumise in a vulnerable position.

**Rain Dance / Sunny Day**: Illumise can find some use as a priority weather user on teams that lack a reliable Drizzle or Drought user to setup the weather to support the potential teammates that would want to abuse the respective weather condition. Illumise will usually have to hold a Damp or Heat rock, which would mean Illumise would have to forego usage of Heavy-Duty Boots

**U-turn**: Illumise rarely ever gets any usage out of its damage dealing moves, besides U-turn, as forfeiting Prankster use leaves Illumise incredibly vulnerable. U-turn is a great move as it allows Illumise to chip something quickly before it switches out to a teammate.

Common Items
========
**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Heavy-Duty Boots is the most common & straight forward item for Illumise to use. As a support Pokemon weak to Stealth Rock, Illumise switches in & out frequently, & is damaged heavily by its weakness to Stealth Rock. Heavy-Duty Boots mitigates this, allowing Illumise to safely switch in on Stealth Rocks, allowing it to function as normal without the risk of being KO’d when at full health after Stealth Rock damage.

**Choice Items**: The Choice Items are a strong option for Illumise with Trick. Illumise can use Trick accompanied with a Choice Item to disrupt your opponents support Pokemon, making them unable to use their status moves.

Niche Items
========
**Sitrus Berry**: Illumise can sometimes run a Sitrus Berry in place of Heavy-Duty Boots, as it can allow Illumise to recover HP on switch ins, making it able to get off a move & possibly living an extra hit before fainting.

Tera
========
Despite being a Bug type, Illumise almost never wants to use Tera itself, as it is far too frail to make any use of it. Tera is much better spent on a different Pokemon that is much bulkier or more offensively oriented than Illumise.

Draft Strategy
========
Illumise is almost always taken as one of the final Pokemon added to a team in an effort to bring more support to a team due its low cost & is virtually immune to being sniped by another player as its a generally forgotten Pokemon. Illumise will usually be best picked for defensive teams without a reliable support Pokemon, or offensive teams without a reliable source for disruption moves.

**Prankster**: Illumise has access to one of the best support abilities in the game in the form of Prankster. With Prankster, Illumises teammates that are offensive oriented such as Heatran can get into scenarios to work more effectively.

**Wish**: Wish is a very strong move for Illumise to use as it allows it to keep its teammates without any reliable source of recovery at a reliable amount of health such as rapid spin users like Excadrill or Blastoise.

**Thunder Wave**: Thunder Wave can cripple offensive threats effectively, allowing for the offensive Pokemon on your team to have room to wallbreak more effectively such as Kingambit who like speed control to work effectively.

Checks and Counters
========

**Dark Types**: Dark types can easily shutdown Illumise due to Dark types being immune to all Prankster moves, which is where Illumise gains all of its utility. Without access to Prankster, Illumise becomes immensely crippled & unable to perform the one task it was made to do. Pokemon such as Chi-Yu or Kingambit effortlessly wall Illumise, forcing it out with Illumise doing little damage on its way out, or being KO'd.

**Taunt / Encore**: Taunt & Encore are major disruptors to Illumise because most of the time, as Illumises only damage dealing move is U-turn. Illumise can switch out with U-turn in the case this does happen, unless it is locked in with Encore, & forces Illumise out.

**Strong Offensive Pokemon**: Illumise is very threatened by Pokemon that are generally strong attackers as they can outright KO Illumise. Illumise can use moves like Charm & Light Screen to mitigate this, but Illumise is very scared of being KO’d by Pokemon like Ursaluna, Slither Wing or Iron Moth that have enough damage output to KO Illumise in one hit.

Yo seems like you are new to this and I had some time to burn so I'm gonna go over some things that should be changed. I did similar things the first time I did one of these. This is not an actual QC so you will still need 2 QCs after this one. You should also change the tag to Quality Control (dropdown to the left of the title change on the edit screen)

[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 7/8+ Since this is based off the Smogon format there are not rounds after 8. It should always be picked last unless there is some niche points situation to prevent a snipe which shouldnt be talked about in the analysis.

**Price Range**: 1-2 Points

**Overview**: Despite Illumise’s reputation as a dex-filler & generally forgettable Pokemon, it gains excellent use as a low cost support Pokemon due to Prankster and its surprisingly deep support movepool. Prankster should be in the first sentence, its the main draw of it. If it just had a good movepool without Prankster it would not be usable. With access to Prankster as an ability, & moves such as Encore, Tailwind, Thunder Wave, and Wish & Defog, (RC) no defog for the bug in sv unfortunately Illumise can find itself as a decently well rounded support user. Even with its deep movepool & fantastic ability, it leaves much to be desired in terms of typing & stats.

Common Roles
========
It can even use some of its usually useless moves such as Charm to force out Choice Scarf or Choice Band users that would threaten to KO Illumise, allowing it to regain some of its health with Roost to keep itself healthy for a longer duration. Tailwind is another great move for Illumise, as after being set-up, it can allow slower teammates to seamlessly outspeed their respective threats. A bit long for a section like this on a mon that isn't very versitile. Should trim a bit here to be more consise.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: U-turn, Struggle Bug

**Setup Moves**: Do not use Growth ever.

**Utility Moves**: Baton Pass, Baton Pass is banned in Smogon's format which the analysis is based on Encore, Light Screen, Roost, Tailwind, Thunder Wave, Trick, Wish, Charm

**Coverage**: Giga Drain

Niche Moves
========
I've seen more Infestation than Struggle Bug on this its probably fine to be in common.

**Rain Dance / Sunny Day**: Its ok have multiple moves for one section if they are similar enough Illumise can find some use as a priority weather user on teams that lack a reliable Drizzle or Drought user to setup the weather to support the potential teammates that would want to abuse the respective weather condition. Illumise will usually have to hold a Damp or Heat rock, which would mean Illumise would have to forego usage of Heavy-Duty Boots

**Damage Dealing Moves**: Illumise rarely ever gets any usage out of its damage dealing moves besides U-turn, as forfeiting Prankster use leaves Illumise incredibly vulnerable to being KO’d by moves while offering little in return except for mild chip. Probably should mention at least one of these moves here

Common Items
========
**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Heavy-Duty Boots is the most common & straight forward item for Illumise to use. A bit repetitive with the last sentence As a support Pokemon weak to Stealth Rock, Illumise switches in & out frequently, & is damaged heavily by its weakness to Stealth Rock. Heavy-Duty Boots mitigates this, allowing Illumise to safely switch in on Stealth Rocks, allowing it to function as normal without the risk of being KO’d when at full health after Stealth Rock damage.

**Choice Items**: The Choice Items Choice Scarf, Choice Specs, and Choice Scarf are a strong option for Illumise with Trick. Illumise can use Trick accompanied with a Choice Item to disrupt your opponents support Pokemon, locking them into a single move. making them unable to use their status moves.

Niche Items
========
**LeftoversSitrus Berry**: Illumise sometimes likes to use Leftovers in place on Heavy-Duty Boots. Leftovers especially comes in handy when playing against teams that lack entry hazards, allowing Illumise to recover its own HP gradually that may allow it to survive attacks from the opponent more frequently, & outheal certain low damage attacks. Even against teams that somehow lack Stealth Rock Sitrus Berry is generally a better healing item for the burst healing to live 2 strong hits for a relatively frail Pokemon

Could add other items to use with Trick like Lagging Tail, Flame Orb, etc.

Tera
========
Despite being a Bug type, Illumise almost never wants to use Tera itself, as it is far too frail to make any use of it. Despite the allure of using a Tera such as Ground, Not sure why Tera Ground would be alluring for it Tera is much better spent on a different Pokemon that is much bulkier or more offensively oriented than Illumise.

Draft Strategy
========
Illumise is almost always taken as one of the final Pokemon added to a team in an effort to bring more support to a team due its low cost & is virtually immune to being sniped by another player as its a generally forgotten Pokemon. Should also mention either what teams make the best use of its support / disruption, which teams shouldn't pick it, or both (probably don't need to do both for a mon this cheap tho)

Although all of this is great info this section isn't supposed to be organized this way. Instead of saying what Illumine is good at (which the previous sections are mainly for) you should be showing what partners work well with what it does. The standard for these is to show role that a partner should fill then add in 3 Pokemon that fill that role (i.e. Hazard Removal, Wallbreakers, etc.).
**Prankster**: Illumise has access to one of the best support abilities in the game in the form of Prankster. With Prankster, Illumises status moves all gain +1 priority, allowing them to go first. This is a massive opportunity to have Illumise cripple an opponents Pokemon, or have room to support its own teammates with a move such as Wish or a Light Screen.
This is a bit to general to be converted into a standard section. Something like Offensive Partners that like its supportive moves or passive partners that like its disruption might be able to fit in some of this info.

**Wish**: Wish is a very strong move for Illumise to use as it allows it to keep its teammates without any reliable source of recovery at a reliable amount of health, & to keep them healthy long term without being worn down over time.

Could say something along the lines of bulky partners without recovery if you want to keep something similar to this section

**Thunder WaveWallbreakers**: Thunder Wave is one of Illumises best moves, allowing it to shutdown offensive Pokemon that can’t hit Illumise as effectively such as Fighting types. Thunder Wave can cripple offensive threats effectively, allowing for the offensive Pokemon on your team to have room to setup safely wallbreak more effectively. Foes being paralyzed doesn't really make it easier to set up against for most partners.
This one is pretty easy to fix, just talk about partners that like speed control from foes being paralyzed / setting Tailwind for them like mid speed wallbreakers.

Checks and Counters
========

**Dark Types**: Dark types can easily shutdown Illumise due to Dark types being immune to all Prankster moves, which is where Illumise gains all of its utility. Without access to Prankster, Illumise becomes immensely crippled & unable to perform the one task it was made to do. It is able to chip these Dark types with U-turn, but brings little more than a wasted team slot until the Dark type(s) have been removed. Add 3 Pokemon. Could highlight something like Kingambit or Chi-yu in last sentence as something that really destroys it because they also aren't weak to Bug.

**Taunt / Encore**: Taunt is a major disruptor to Illumise because most of the time, as Illumises only damage dealing move is U-turn. Illumise can switch out with U-turn in the case this does happen, but it still leaves Illumise extremely vulnerable. Something like this is general enough to not need specific Pokemon mentioned. Encore is good to add here due to disrupting while also preventing it from using U-Turn to switch out.

**Strong Offensive Pokemon**: Illumise is very threatened by Pokemon that are generally strong attackers as they can outright KO an Illumise with a poor matchup EV & spread. Even with full investment it is still getting destroyed Illumise can use moves like Charm & Light Screen to mitigate this, but Illumise is very scared of being KO’d by Pokemon like Add 3 Pokemon that are in this role and check Illumese just like the previous section.

Made the edits you requested, but there may be some things that still need modifying, & if you point that out to me I'll fix them. I apologize as this is my first time writing one of these lol.

Edit: I noticed some things I missed, so I cleaned those up just now.

there's still some major changes that need to be made so not giving a qc1 yet, please make the changes then ping me on discord/smogon so that I can take another look

It will also be helpful if you look at some other analyses to see how they should be written. Some good examples that function similar to Illumise are Volbeat and Pincurchin.

Illumise will usually be best picked for defensive teams without a reliable support Pokemon, or offensive teams without a reliable source for disruption moves.

This section here needs a lot of work, this highlights what Illumise is good at, when rather you should talk about what partners work well with Illumise.

**Prankster**: Illumise has access to one of the best support abilities in the game in the form of Prankster. With Prankster, Illumises teammates that are offensive oriented such as Heatran can get into scenarios to work more effectively.

**Offensive Partners**: As E man suggested, talk about how illumise can use its supportive movepool to allow its offensive partners to wallbreak or sweep, then add 3 offensive pokemon as examples.

**Entry Hazard Removal**: Talk about how it would appreciate having teammates to remove hazards on its side of the field, and provide it better opportunities to utilize Trick if it's not running boots.

**Pivots**: Building on from Wish, talk about teammates that can benefit from bringing in Illumise safely as well as being able to U-turn itself after a Wish to heal them back up.

Checks and Counters
========

**Dark Types**: Dark types can easily shutdown Illumise due to Dark types being immune to all Prankster moves, which is where Illumise gains all of its utility. Without access to Prankster, Illumise becomes immensely crippled & unable to perform the one task it was made to do. sounds too similar to first sentence. Pokemon such as Chi-Yu or Kingambit effortlessly wall Illumise, forcing it out with Illumise doing little damage on its way out, or being KO'd.

**Taunt / Encore**: Taunt & Encore are major disruptors to Illumise as these moves shut down its entire strategy, forcing Illumise out and giving the foe a free opportunity to deal damage or set up. because most of the time, as Illumises only damage dealing move is U-turn. Illumise can switch out with U-turn in the case this does happen, unless it is locked in with Encore, & forces Illumise out. Rewrote the sentence as it felt off to read.

**Strong Offensive Pokemon**: Illumise is very threatened by Pokemon that are generally strong attackers as they can outright KO Illumise. Illumise can use moves like Charm & Light Screen to mitigate this, but Illumise is very scared of being KO’d by Pokemon like Ursaluna Cinderace, Slither Wing Tornadus-T or Iron Moth that have enough damage output to KO Illumise in one hit.
