SM OU I'm a noob, but 5-0 so far, 1205 elo, how can I improve the team?

ferrothorn.gif

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
- Leech Seed
- Knock Off (replace with Stealth Rock?)

Ferrothorn is my current Lead and also one of my Walls against most pokemon. Grass Steel is fantastic against a lot of attack types. Gyro Ball against offensive Fairy types like Tapu Koko, Power Whip against Water types like Greninja-Ash, Leech Seed + Leftovers to keep Ferrothorn healthy, and Knock Off for Psychic types and to get rid of enemy items. Fire and Fighting attacks demolish Ferrothorn though, which is why I have Toxapex too.

__________________________________________________________

toxapex.gif

Toxapex @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Toxic
- Haze
- Recover

Toxapex was the most annoying, tankiest pokemon I could find. Water Poison is also fantastic against most attacks. Recover + Toxic +Rocky Helmet means that most pokemon basically kill themselves against Toxapex. Scald against Fire, Ground, and Rock Types, as well as for Steel Types and Poison Types who can't be poisoned. As long as I don't switch Toxapex into Electric, Ground, or Psychic attacks, I can alternate Toxapex with Ferrothorn to halve most attack types. I also like that between the two of them I can get rid of Toxic Spikes completely.

__________________________________________________________

landorus-therian.gif

Landorus-Therian @ Quick Claw
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Smack Down
- Earthquake
- Fly
- U-turn (replace with Rock Slide/Stealth Rock?)

U-turn Landorus-T is my pivot so that I can switch to my other pokemon safely. I added Quick Claw so I could more often outspeed other Landorus-Ts, and sometimes faster pokemon like Greninja-Ash that should by all rights destroy Landorus-T. Smack Down takes care of most Levitate and Air Balloon users, as well as Flying types. Earthquake against Electric, Fire, Poison, and Steel types. Fly + Quick Claw actually lets me dodge some attacks and deal with Grass and Fighting types, though I only really want to use this after major water and ice threats have been dealt with. I think Rock Slide would be good though, to deal with Charizards and other Flying types. I also kind of want Stealth Rock because the enemy team is going to Switch a lot.

__________________________________________________________

kartana.gif

Kartana @ Quick Claw
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 56 HP / 196 Def / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Smart Strike
- Sacred Sword
- Knock Off

A weird Kartana EV spread that I copied off another guy's team. Along with being Grass Steel, the EVs make Kartana decently safe to switch into physical non-super effective attacks. He makes for a decent Physical Sweeper because of Beast Boost. Quick Claw because I like going first but didn't want to use a Choice Scarf to lock Kartana into a move. Leaf Blade for dealing with Water types. Smart Strike to destroy Fairy types like Tapu Bulu and Koko, and Ice types. Sacred Sword to deal with Steel, Dark, Ice, Normal, and Rock types. I added Knock Off to deal with Psychic Types like Alakazam-mega as well as piss off pokemon that rely on their items to set up.

__________________________________________________________

heatran.gif

Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Stone Edge
- Flash Cannon

Heatran is one of my Special Sweepers, and my answer to Fire type attacks. Choice Scarf lets me outspeed a lot of his counters. Fire Blast against Steel, Grass, Bug, and Ice types, Earth Power against Electric, Fire, Poison, Rock, and Steel types. Stone Edge against Flying types, and Flash Cannon against Fairy and Rock types. Heatran utterly gets wrecked by Ground, Fighting, and Water type attacks though, so switching into Fire types who can run Earthquake like Charizard-mega X is a no-go. I'm thinking of replacing Heatran with Volcarona just so I don't lose a pokemon so easily to Earthquakes and Earth Powers.

__________________________________________________________

tapulele.gif

Tapu Lele @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast

Tapu Lele is my other Special Sweeper. Psychic against Fighting and Poison types, as well as generally Physically Defensive pokemon, and Psyshock against Specially Defensive pokemon. Moonblast against any Dark and Dragon types. Focus Blast + All-Out Pummeling deals with bulky Steel types who want to check Tapu Lele. Poison and Ghost types aren't that common, but occasionally Shadow Ball outright OHKOs Tapu Lele. Powerful STAB moves like Earthquake also OHKO Tapu Lele because of her weak Defense.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Obvious Strengths (that even a noob like me can see):
1. Landorus-T, Kartana, Heatran, and Tapu Lele can all sometimes Sweep.
2. Forces a lot of Switches for free damage
3. Ferrothorn + Toxapex are super-annoying Walls that make enemy pokemon hurt themselves.

Obvious Weaknesses (that even a noob like me can see):
1. No Stealth Rock - I'm torn between Stealth Rock and Knock Off on Ferrothorn, and maybe Landorus-T. I really enjoy removing items and pivoting, but my team kind of forces Switches and Stealth Rock would do a lot of free damage.
2. No Defog - The team is vulnerable to Entry Hazards (except for Toxic Spikes).
3. Can't really deal well with huge Wall teams like Chansey + Clefable + Sableye-mega + Tangrowth.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Individually, I've read that my team already has some of the best pokemon, so I know it's my inexperience holding the team back. Please help me improve my team. Thank you.

Hey, welcome to smogon! I like this team a lot, I would just suggest a few edits to bring the most potential out of the mons you have here.

748.png

First of all we should get rid of the Quick Claw, leaning on RNG (% chances) is a bad strategy, especially when this is below 25% chance. So we move the Rocky Helmet from Toxapex to Landorus, the only moves really doing heavy damage to Toxapex are non-contact moves like Psychic, Thunderbolt and Earthquake, Toxapex much prefers the passive recovery of Black Sludge anyway, or if you want a Shuca or Papaya berry can be used to bait a Groundium/Psychium Z.
Rocky Helmet -> Black Sludge
Toxapex @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Haze
- Recover
- Toxic

637.png

Next up I would say at base 77, Heatran is too slow to be using Choice Scarf, especially with Modest reaching a maximum of only 380, leaving it outsped by common checks like Greninja-Ash and pretty much any Scarfer, a lot of which carry Ground and Fighting type coverage. If you wish to slot in a Fire type sweeper, Volcarona would be an excellent option, sweepers often use set-up moves and Quiver Dance is one of the best around. Psychium Z in tandem with Psychic Terrain from Tapu Lele will help you nail Toxapex or opt for Bugium Z and Hidden Power [Ground] for Heatran, Bug Buzz will hit Psychic types (like Lele, Lati@s, Mew, Medicham, Alakazam), which you have not really got any way to hit and after one Quiver Dance Volcarona is also much faster than Scarf Heatran and hits much harder as well as being able to tank some special attacks.
Scarf Heatran -> Quiver Dance Volcarona
Volcarona @ Psychium Z
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Fire Blast
- Bug Buzz
- Psychic
786.png

Seeing as we have 4 attacks on Lele already, this makes Lele a great candidate for a Choice item user, Scarf is great because Psychic Terrain prevents priority moves and base 95 is not bad for a Scarfer, Psychic/shock still hit very hard and you have decent coverage over your 4 moveslots. Specs is also an option if you'd rather use Lele as a wallbreaker, I would recommend this option, as 95 speed will let you move first over most walls and Specs+STAB+Terrain Psychic is putting huge chunks even in resistances. This also frees up the Scarf for Kartana.
Fightinium Z -> Choice Specs
Tapu Lele @ Choice Specs
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Moonblast
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast
798.png

I love using Kartana with Scarf, it sits at a (in my opinion) perfect speed tier for it, as there are few Pokemon above 100 base speed that use Scarf, and those that do tend to lack the power to break through your walls in Toxapex and Ferrothorn, even Lele and +1 Volcarona. Beast Boost also allows you to deal extreme damage after a KO and snowball to victory. Now we are using Volcarona, I would replace Smart Strike with Defog, Kartana works as an offensive pivot mid-game, allowing you to force switches and Defog, so Volcarona can safely come in. Go with a standard 252/252 spread to get the most out of Kartana's excellent base stats. This outspeeds Adamant Mega Swampert under rain, which is great for Rain teams that give you trouble.
Quick Claw -> Choice Scarf
Kartana @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Sacred Sword
- Smart Strike
- Defog
645-s.png

You currently have no dedicated Defensive wall and no Rocks setter, but you do have Landorus, who is perfect, a slow U-Turn will also allow you to swap Landorus in to Intimidate foes, tank a hit and U-Turn out at the end of the turn to bring a frailer attacker like Volcarona or Lele in. Rocks is necessary on pretty much all teams.
Offensive -> Defensive
Landorus-Therian @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power Ice
- U-turn
598.png

Lastly Ferrothorn's premier role is as a Hazard setter and now we have Rocks on Landorus we can use Spikes which is great for against mons that resist rock type, dealing up 25% damage a switch with 3 layers. It is up to you which attacking move to drop, but putting Spikes on Ferrothorn will make it fill its purpose, help you chip at the opponents as you force switches with your threatening offensive Pokemon and walls, as well as allowing you to gain momentum as your opponent is forced to Defog/Rapid Spin.
Wall -> Hazard Setter
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SpD
Careful Nature
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
- Knock Off
So the basic idea here is to get hazards up with Landorus and Ferrothorn and then chip away at your opponent by forcing switchs, by swapping your walls in, aiming to weaken checks to Volcarona and Kartana. At a safe opportunity, bring Lele in to punch big holes in defensive teams. When the checks and counters have been removed swap Volcarona in (after hazards are cleared), set up and win, or against more offensive teams, get the KO with Scarf Kartana once anything potentially quicker or anything strong enough to tank a hit is cleared and Beast Boost your way to the win. Use your defensive mons to stall out turns against Trick Room teams and keeps Webs off the field with Kartana. Stall will be a struggle but at low ladder you should not encounter this too often.

I know this may look like a lot of changes, but this team is well thought out just a bit of fine-tuning on the movesets to bring the most potential out of these mons. I hope this was helpful!

Thank you very much for the reply! I'm going to be testing your suggestions!

Hey, dude, I don't usually drop rates, but I think you've got a solid idea going here and thought I could offer some help.

I went ahead and made a full import with all the changes I believe should be made to the team (found >>>here<<<).

My changes with reasoning are as follows:

645-s.png
Landorus-T: Run the standard defensive set (EQ | HP Ice | U-turn | SR) but with heavy speed investment to outpace Timid Heatran and 252 Spe Adamant Zygarde. This gives you a stable-ish check to Zygarde and numerous other threatening physical attackers like Tyranitar and Mawile, while also posing a threat to Heatran (which is a massive menace to builds like this especially).

598.png
Ferrothorn: Run Whip | Leech | HP Fire | Spikes. This team is going to hate Kartana anyway you slice it, so HP Fire lets you snipe it as it tries to use your Ferro as setup fodder. 8 SpA EVs is all thats needed to OHKO min bulk Kart, so you don't lose out on realistically any bulk. Spikes help rack up passive damage on the opponent as they switch around your defensive core and also assist your offensive mons by weakening their checks and counters (Spikes will really hurt AV Magearna, for example).

748.png
Toxapex: Run SpD lefties Toxapex. The current set is good, especially because Toxic lets you reliably cripple Hawluchas should you stay out of range of +2 Acro (roll is 71.6 - 84.4%).

485.png
Heatran: Scarf Heatran works here, since Toxapex + Heatran covers all viable Volc options, meaning you won't feel the sting of using a slow scarfer as much as in other cases. Additionally, scarf Heatran outpaces and resists Pinsir's Quick Attack, preventing it from running through your team. I suggest running Fire Blast | Earth Power | Flash Cannon | Toxic, though. Could run Flamethrower over Fire Blast if you feel like it.

798.png
Kartana →
248.png
Tyranitar:
Fatter teams with pretty dedicated defensive cores really hate things like choice item Hoopa, Lele, and especially Heatran---all of which are things CB Tyranitar can remove from play via Pursuit. Additionally, it helps Zam break down cores well prepared for it (like stuff with Chansey) and also puts pressure on Magearna for Zam. I considered mostly strong Heatran countermeasures for this slot given how annoying it would be to the other 5, but given the need for supplementary breaking power + other things, CB Tyranitar seems to be the best middleground.

786.png
Tapu Lele →
065.png
Alakazam:
Tapu Lele without the aid of a Choice Scarf leaves you open to Kartana as well as Medicham to an extent, so I felt like Alakazam's extra speed would help here way more. The Life Orb Recover set is a great way to gain entry on Toxapex with minimal penalty to open up the opposition. I personally think Dazzling Gleam as the final coverage slot is nice for its ability to nail Darks without committing to Focus Blast as well as hitting Hoopa (big threat even with Tyranitar around).

Hope this is useful! I triple checked the importable I linked above, but if there's anything confusing about it let me know.

Good luck :o

edit: things to look out for would be Medicham, Hawlucha, and certain offensive Magearna sets. It's unfortunate that they're potentially bad matchups for this team but SM is very constraining :(
