I'm going to Japan in the spring, what should I do?

Hey all, as the title says, I will be visiting Japan soon. It's been over 10 years since I last went (I was in 5th grade) and I can't wait to go back. Can the community here offer some suggestions on what I should see/buy?
I want to focus on the city parts of Japan and I enjoy tech and creative stuff. Also want to do night-life activities.

If you want to travel a lot, especially by shinkansen, then you should consider getting the Japan Rail Pass. Gives you unlimited rides on all JR lines for a set price over 1, 2, or 3 weeks. The only drawback is that it's JR lines only and you can't take the fastest shinkansen services along the tokaido and sanyo shinkansen (tokyo-shin osaka-hakata). The good news is that there are comparable services that are marginally slower (they stop at an extra 2-3 stations along the way) but they aren't as frequent as the fastest services so you will have to plan your schedule out. Also JR routes cover most of where you'd want to go to anyways with maybe a couple exceptions.

Obviously you could spend a week in just one city like Tokyo and still feel like you've only just brushed the surface so it's by no means necessary. But if you're interested in travelling around Japan a decent amount, it's a good way to get a flat price plus you pretty much don't have to worry about transit costs.

I'm hoping to go to Akihabara in particular (district in Tokyo) because Akihabara has a lot of little game stores with a lot of character. Also apparently it has phenomenal otaku stores lol and I want to buy some otaku stufff

On top of that I want to go to those department stores with like 15 floors and each floor has a different theme.

Asian women :psysly::psysly::psysly::psysly:

As a white male I hear it is easier to get Japanese women there....

Then you can get a lot of Anime figurines because it's way cheaper to buy there.

Hello professional weeb here
1: akihabara is overrated go there to absorb the artificial anime Mecca but any purchases will be cheaper in one of Japan’s many shitty various goods stores (zakkaya) or used book stores (furuhonya) if you’re looking for a very specific thing then akihabara might be good idk if you want stores with character ikebukuro is much better

2 if you’re travelling out of Tokyo get a jr pass it’ll save your life.

3 I’m not sure how much time you have but other than Tokyo, Kyoto-Nara area and Hiroshima are must-sees. If you go to Hiroshima pop over to miyajima it’s like an hour away and is the most photogenic place on earth

4 you’ll probably visit famous locations anyways so for a few more out of the way places I recommend mt takao in Tokyo, an entertaining climb with a spectacular view of Tokyo. Also just like walk around at 2 am in random places Japan is really safe and pretty as fuck at night, enter random out of the way bars for fun encounters as long as you aren’t in roppongi and assorted red light districts

5 since you’re going in the spring you should do Sakura viewing, I recommend going to yasukuni shrine. Because of all of the war criminal controversy no foreigners go there and it isn’t advertised so it’s much nicer than most other major shrines in the country

6 date but be careful, much in the same way that the West has dumbass legends that being a white man makes you a stud Japan has its own “gaijin hunters” Japanese women that specifically target foreign men for one night stands or to take advantage of potential naive individuals. Also most Japanese women aren’t on the pill and morning after pills basically don’t exist so don’t be an idiot

I could say more specifics but since I have no idea where you’re going I’ll end here

I worked for a bit in Kyoto, so if you want sightseeing recommendations I can help you out. I also have an entire network of people in Japan, and especially for the nightlife scene (since you seem to be into that) from DJs to barowners to Yakuza, you name it and I probably know them. Let me know what you’re looking for and in which city/town and I can probably help you out.

Also don’t be one of those white guys who goes there to hit on women, it’s extremely cringy. I’m not saying you can’t hit on women, but you’ll know what I mean when you get there.

Edit: Forgot to add that I’m not a weeb, so if you want recommendations for anime places and all that, it’s the only thing I can’t really help you out with.

Yeah sure, no problem. I’m going back there around May/June to help a friend of mine set-up a bar there so depending on when you’re going I might even be there.

Also I understand this is a competitive pokemon forum and so 98% of the people here are thirsty guys with yellow fever, but goddamn...
