At first I assumed it was going to be because of my ulcer or my gastritis, but apparently it's "just" a hernia that needs to be repaired, or so I was told. I don't want another scar, though.

I don't know how much time I'm going to be incapacitated (forgot to ask), but I'll post again when I'm back at home.

are you going under or are they giving your nitrous oxide? i've gotten my wisdom teeth taken out but i'm not familiar with other surgeries. but i'm assuming they'll give you hydrocodone or oxy so that should help with the pain. you'll be fine.
 
You'll be waking up not even realizing you went under yet (at least that's how it was when I was anesthetized). You ought to get good painkillers if you're getting a big surgery, so all in all it isn't too much trouble. You may have to chill at home for a while if you're on pain killers though. Good luck!
 
I thought they did wicked small incisions for hernia's, so any scars should be small(I could be completely wrong though so don't hold me to my word). My dad said when he got a hernia removed they just used a local anesthetic, so he didn't actually get knocked out but the area was frozen. Good luck.
