OMPL Champion
[SET]
SpDef Wall (SpD, HP) (Garganacl) @ Heavy-Duty Boots /Leftovers
Ability: Purifying Salt
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Tera Type: Water / Fairy / Ghost
Careful Nature
- Salt Cure
- Recover
- Stealth Rock / Curse
- Protect / Earthquake

Garganacl is a premier wall that leverages its incredible bulk, unique ability, and decent utility to consistently wear down opponents over time. Salt Cure is the cornerstone of the set, providing consistent chip damage every turn. When combined with Protect, Garganacl can safely stall turns to rack up Salt Cure damage and Leftovers recovery, making it extremely difficult to outlast. Recover gives Garganacl the reliable healing it needs to continually check powerful special attackers like Iron Moth and Darkrai across a long battle. Stealth Rock is generally preferred on Garganacl, but if the team already has Stealth Rock, Garganacl can also run Curse, acting as a late-game win condition that becomes extremely bulky on both ends. With Curse, Garganacl should also run Earthquake, which prevents Garganacl from becoming overly passive and allows it to hit targets like Necrozma-DM, Eternatus, and Slowking-Galar. Tera Water is the most consistent choice on Garganacl, removing Garganacl’s Steel and Water weaknesses while being an all around good typing. Alternatively, Tera Fairy flips the weakness to Fighting, while Tera Ghost is lets Garganacl spinblock Great Tusk while maintaining synergy with Purifying Salt.

Garganacl fits comfortably on balance and stall teams that appreciate its ability to spread passive damage and blanket-check special attackers such as Iron Moth, Eternatus, and Darkrai. It thrives with high Special Defense donations from gods such as Calyrex-Ice and Ho-Oh, amplifying its already exceptional resilience and letting it wall powerful neutral hits with ease. However, HP donations from gods like Eternatus and Arceus are also acceptable. Since Garganacl thrives on chip damage, it appreciates Spikes setters like Hisuian Samurott, Ting-Lu, and Ogerpon, as well as spinblockers such as Pecharunt and Sinistcha to keep hazards up. Knock Off support is invaluable for Garganacl, since removing Heavy-Duty Boots, Leftovers, and Covert Cloak is very important for racking up chip damage. Thus, teammates like Iron Treads, Darkrai, and Weavile that can remove key items are highly appreciated.

SpDef Wall (SpD, HP) (Garganacl) @ Heavy-Duty Boots surely we can slash lefties on a god damn garg

Recover gives Garganacl the reliable healing it needs to continually check powerful special attackers like Iron Moth and Darkrai across a long battle. think this might be dex info regardless Stealth Rock is generally preferred on Garganacl, but if the team already has Stealth Rock, Earthquake is an excellent alternative that prevents Garganacl from becoming overly passive and allows it to hit targets like Necrozma-DM, Eternatus, and Slowking-Galar. mmmm it does like zero to the first 2 and barely helps those mus, and gking just slow chillys on you regardless. I'd probably say like energy ball iron moth instead as it's pretty much the only use case i can think of, but tbh I'd rather we just remove this sentence and go straight to the point of running eq alongside curse, cause raw eq is just super mid and this makes it sound like eq + tect is viable (it's not) Garganacl can also run Curse alongside Earthquake, acting as a late-game win condition that becomes extremely bulky on both ends. Tera Water is the most consistent choice on Garganacl, removing Garganacl’s Steel and Water weaknesses while being an all around good typing. Garganacl fits comfortably on balance and stall teams that appreciate its ability to blanket-check special attackers give examples, could just be like lo etern and darkrai and spread passive damage. It thrives with high Special Defense donations from gods such as Calyrex-Ice and Ho-Oh, amplifying its already exceptional resilience and letting it wall powerful neutral hits with ease. However, HP donations from gods like Eternatus I really feel like we should mention arceus either here or in spdef since that core is so splashable and a lot of the time, garg is gonna be paired with an arc on balance are also acceptable. Since Garganacl thrives on chip damage, it appreciates hazard think it's worth clarifying spikes setters, as garg is a lot of the time going to set rocks. if you want to emphasise that hazards are a way of punishing the opp switching around salt cure on setup sets, do so to make it clear setters like Hisuian Samurott, Ting-Lu, and Ogerpon, as well as spinblockers such as Pecharunt and Sinistcha to keep hazards up. Knock Off support is invaluable for Garganacl, since removing Heavy-Duty Boots and Leftovers is very important for racking up chip damage. Also, as Covert Cloak on Pokemon like Necrozma-DM completely blocks Salt Cure’s residual damage, Garganacl can get completely shut down by it. this sentence is worded really weirdly, and tbh just merge lefties, boots and cloak Thus, teammates like Great Tusk, Darkrai, and Weavile that can remove key items are highly appreciated. tusk is obv good but competes with garg a lot of the time for the spdef slot, which tusk should always be slotted into, could mention like treads instead which gives it slightly less competition and eases teambuilding for the newer player reading this
