Hi. I've been playing Pokemon FOREVER, but I'm really new to competitive battling and D/P. I understand EV's and IV's and all that stuff. I'm going to attempt to EV train my starter Chimchar into a Special Sweeper Infernape right off the bat. However, I have a problem. I've been soft-resetting my game to right before you get the starter in hopes of getting a Chimchar with Timid nature (+ Speed, - Attack) and good IV's for Speed and Sp. Attack. However, my latest Chimchar is of Modest nature (+ Sp. Attack, -Attack) but has EXCELLENT IV's for Speed and Sp. Attack, as well as decent defensive values. So, my question is: Should I be happy with this Chimchar or hold out until I get one with Timid nature with satisfactory IV's? I'm not really sure whether good IV's or the 'perfect' nature is more important. I would really appreciate if some Smogon familiars helped out this newbie.

It depends on your outlined team. If the other members can make up for the lack of speed then go with this one. Either that, or soft reset if you want speed over power.

Just take it. It's easier to breed them for the right nature / IVs later.
