Inheritance Inheritance (Roaring Moon and Sheer Force Banned!)

according to don vascus us council men arent supposed to vote on these surveys cuz we yap his ears off about our opinions anyways? ig ill post them then

enjoyability, 9.

I think the tier is fun to play and build and it allows u to explore a ton of different options and realistically I think you could build literal thousands of viable teams

balance, 4.

Part of it is the nature of the tier, idt we will ever be able to have an inheritance meta without unexpected stuff in the builder but that's kinda part of the charm. i do think there's some mons that should prolly be banned.

roaring moon, 5.

ill be short on this but I def think we need to QB rm, and if we do get to vote on it ill be voting ban. there's to many sets for this guy to accomplish, and such a thing as an omnicheck doesn't exist (ihands / tusk lose to lokix and SD Play Rough, gliscor loses to Libero/Protean and SD Tough Claws, misc intim guys like Glisc or Skarm lose to Libero and TCLO. flame body fishing is NOT a reliable check) As such its too constrictive in the builder just cuz u need 2 checks against it, its also just a bitch vs offense cuz its our best scarfer and tinted/tough claws sucker is scary as fuckk

prim, 1.

idt this mon is broken at all lol. it punishes lazy building and passive teams, if anything id say its a healthy mon.

Sheer Force, 5.

Sheer Force warps the tier immensely in the builder. We have viable mixed SFLO guys u cant switch into safely (Thudurus, Infernape, Lando come to mind) so u cant use regenvests to safely beat them, but the raw damage output of guys like Imoth or sandy shocks kinda forces u into running hard special walls. i think they're too hard to answer defensively so should prolly be banned :D

gholdengo,1

lol, not broken at all. levitate was a trend set and brambler isn't broken, id argue its not even S-tier anymore!

i voted 5 on all of the unban suggestions because I did not play the tier with these mons legal and as such I wish to be able to play with them to fairly gauge if they're broken or not, this is also why I mentioned dondozo for potential unbans.

Speaking of potential unbans, dondozo and scream tail! idfk why dondozo was banned but I don't think this tier would suffer from more physical walls. We also banned bounce so scream tail is just like, super fine to deal with now.

Anything else I want to be looked at;

SAC and Tera. imo donor clause is basically SAC already, idt sac does anything to improve the tier. I think by rule of thumb tera is not an unbalanced mechanic either, and would like to see it tested in the tier.

Two little announcements

First, the VR is updated

Second Oricorio is freed, following the the quiver dance ban. The main reason it was banned was because its access to taunt and having a wider array of possible inheritors made it notably better than other QDers. Now that QD is banned, it no longer merits the ban

Thank You dhelmise in advance for implementing

A bit late, but here are the survey results. I'm sad to admit this time the number of responses has been quite low, so bear that in mind going forward.

"On a scale of 1-10, how enjoyable do you find the current metagame?"
1724731148932.png

Average: 7.83 (+0.43 over last survey)

This is an improvement from the last time, and in general you can see most people enjoy this tier quite a lot.

"On a scale of 1-10, how competitive and balanced do you find the current metagame?"
1724731191018.png

Average: 6.75 (-0.15 over last survey)

There's a slight decrease in the overall perceived competitiveness of the tier, perhaps due to the many developments in OMPL

These were rated from 1-5, with 1 being "completely balanced" and 5 being "needs tiering action right now".

Roaring Moon
1724731313202.png

Average: 3.27

The big boogeyman of the tier during OMPL rated the highest of everything we asked about, but not as high as you'd expect from a pokemon that seems as contentious as this. This doesn't warrant a quickban, but we will be keeping an eye on it going forward.

Primarina
1724731325326.png

Average: 2.54

Primarina was rated somewhat low overall. A definitively great pokemon, but not broken.

Sheer Force
1724731392299.png

Average: 3

Sheer Force has been quite the contentious topic for quite a while, as it is seen as the big enabler of many hard-to-check mixed attackers in the tier. I would argue that it Clefairy fills the same role, and that it wouldn't allow any pokemon back (what, you think kyurem and pult wouldn't be broken?), but either way the ability is something we need to observe.

Gholdengo
1724731411563.png

Average: 2.45

Gholdengo can be considered as one of the big reasons hazard removal is such a pain in the current metagame, between the small number of defoggers, mediocre spinners, and bulky ghosts that are hard to stop from spinblocking. On top of this, ghold is also very versatile and can fill a variety of roles. Despite this, it has ranked the lowest of all the things we asked about.

These were rated from 1-5, with 1 being "not interested at all in seeing it tested" and 5 being "why hasn't it been tested yet?".

Ursaluna
1724731481278.png

Average: 2.45

You either have 0 interest in the bear or wonder why its not unbanned. Quite a divide for the first suspected pokemon

Cresselia
1724731498246.png

Average: 2.73

Cresselia is in regular a big fat blob with a mid typing and little utility. Inheritance can fix the latter to make it do the most of its stats and might even make it a solid wincon, with the weakness of being bad into the best pokemon in the tier.

Shaymin-Sky
1724731549660.png

Average: 3.09

Skymin is quite the curious case for inh; It has never been freed in any iteration of the format, but currently there are a couple pokemon that imitate it both as a donor (dudunsparce with glare + serene grace air slash) and inheritor (Darkrai compares stat-wise, and Tornadus-T shares its typing but with slightly lower stats everywhere). On the other hand, its skymin, the notorious flinch haxer, a pokemon infamous for being suspect voted out of OU with 100% of the votes.

Is there anything you think should be tested to be unbanned?
The one repeat answer in this section is this guy:
:sv/scream tail:

To me, this is really fast cresselia, with its main dissadvantages, a weakness to bug and dark, removed. Games where Espeon!Big Jigglypuff nabs a CM and i start to contemplate my options to stop the inevitable Stored Power sweep before i realize, in horror, that i have nothing that can actually threaten it still haunt my nightmares. Lets see if regular speed cresselia is ok first

Is there anything else you think the council should look at?
- Two answers have sub. Sub enables a lot of quite annoying stratetigies but sub is also a move that has been legal in every generation since gen 1 with little problem until gen 9 BH, so lets not rush to this one, shall we?

- Pecharunt: Gholdengo, the most common and versatile ghost-type, has a couple of ways of being killed by spinners that are viable, and Annihilape is quite less versatile to make up for the fact that its a much more robust spinblocker. Pecharunt combines ape's recilience with ghold's versatility in my eyes, so forgive me for not being too on board on this one.

- Cute Kittens: I completely agree. In fact, im gonna look at some right now!

have you been drinking enough water lately? :)

you should drink water, right now

Hi, I've been thinking of this lately:

:Iron Boulder: @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Prism Armor :necrozma:
Tera Type: Rock
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Photon Geyser
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake / Knock Off

Necrozma has a very interesting movepool on both sides btw.
Prism Armor + WP go together well, and after one DD it outspeeds almost eveything or so. Also Photon Geyser ignores abilities.

+1 252 Atk Quark Drive Iron Boulder Photon Geyser vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Iron Hands: 410-486 (80 - 94.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
(25% OHKO if running Adamant)

+1 252+ Atk Iron Boulder Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Gholdengo: 252-298 (66.6 - 78.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
(it will OHKO if Gholdengo uses Shadow Ball and activates WP while you DD).

woo teamdump

https://pokepast.es/57a305deeeea1b4e
this was just some slop I threw together bc according to my team I "needed to bring heat". Idea is just to hstack and then have broken ass sweepers in the back, there's some cool shit here tho like aaa RM and trick scarf rocks prim. overall not a great team but not the worst

https://pokepast.es/e54ec4d8ac66b7a8
I HATE HO. it feels less like playing the game and more like a flowchart simulator. but I also think that Gseed Primarina seems super broken and unfair so here it is.

https://pokepast.es/b427a9d98748342c
atp I was being emo abt going 0-2 bc I didn't put a lot of prep into my teams so I loaded this, pretty standard outplay BO notably I have cm + knock prim + a strong as fuck SFLO guy instead of cm + 2a prim and a mixed sflo guy

https://pokepast.es/06af927f5e54862c
this team is so fucking cool, genuinely one of the teams I'm most proud of. Tpunch thundy is to beat shitass regenvests like florges or w/ever, taunt on gliscor is bc taunt is a broken move and lets me shut down fat and set up and just be very annoying, rocks psalt pex perma ups and also checks urshi.

https://pokepast.es/f3531c9766721d03
don doesn't bring water resists, don tends to bring suspect fighting resists. Sneas + Wake VoltTurn is interesting u bring regenvest in on wake to handle it but it flipturns into sneas and now u claim. Crown is 100% a shitmon but I have 5 mons that cannot swap in to prim if their life was on the line so I needed a kind of hardcheck.

https://pokepast.es/6a749c8a0424f174
wanted to go out of the way n bring smthng that I usually wouldn't, idefpress dogi is very strong and the rest of the team is just a nice BO with breakers and a lot of defense, slowking beats sflo and sflo + cc guys, I'm regen heartflame bc I didn't want a passive and bad regenmon but I also needed a prim check and didn't want a regenvest bc I already had king

Right as OMWC ends, we have the survey results. We had a somewhat low number of responses again

"On a scale of 1-10, how enjoyable do you find the current metagame?"

Average: 7.83 (same as last survey)

No difference, which is alright since it indicates that people like the tier good enough.

"On a scale of 1-10, how competitive and balanced do you find the current metagame?"

Average: 6.75 (same as last survey)

Incredibly the results are the same on both of these questions

These were rated from 1-5, with 1 being "completely balanced" and 5 being "needs tiering action right now".

Roaring Moon

Average: 3.42 (+0.15 over last survey)

It keeps going way under what youd expect from the way people talk about it. It hasnt changed the fact that this guy is solidly the top dog of the tier

Sheer Force

Average: 2.92 (-0.08 over last survey)

Sheer Force is still contentious and it somehow ranked slightly lower this time. Me personally am still torn about it.

These were rated from 1-5, with 1 being "why isnt it legal yet" and 5 being "This pokemon shouldve never been considered for an unban".

Cresselia

Average: 3.42

Cresselia seems to have a surprisingly bad reception at the end, given how vocal many people were about supporting its unbanning. It generally performed pretty well in the inheritour too, so it makes some sence

Shaymin-Sky

Average: 2.75

Skymin definetly feels like it underperformed in the inheritour. Lots of hype about this guy with a better offensive typing than darkrai and better stats than it and it only had a 42% winrate. Me and a few other believe that the most popular sets during the tour weren't the best, so maybe the opinion would change if we had more time with it

Is there anything you think should be tested to be unbanned?
Not a lot of answers here; some calls for Weavile (lol), Pecharunt (probably not) and sableye (lmao)

Is there anything else you think the council should look at?
Once again few answers here, including comfey (lol) watershifu (maybe if you squint), and glimm ("It always put hazards" thats gen 9 for ya)

what are you gonna dress up as on halloween
Notable answers include Peter Griffin, cat, pannu, "Don Landorus set" (what did they mean by this), and "I like shorts! They're comfy and easy to wear!". Gotta love the i like shorts costume

Also pannu has stepped down from the council. We wish you luck in your future endeavors.

Post omwc survey coming soon(tm)

A bit late, but

Roaring Moon and Sheer Force have been banned from Inheritance!

Roaring Moon, the paldean regional variant of the mega evolution of Salamence, has been a notorious pokemon in inheritance since the very beginning. Its insane stat spread has always allowed it to run a myriad of sets, from many unique flavors of offensive sets with Tinted Lens, Tough Claws or Strong Jaw to even more defensive ones like AV regen. Regardless of what it chose to run, you could never be fully prepared for it; Tough Claws and Strong Jaw sets can heavily dent even the sturdiest checks like Metallic Hariyama with coverage, thanks to its 139 base attack, and Tinted Lens sets were all of Knock Off clicker, speed control, pivot, and late game cleaner all in a single slot. It got far and away the most usage in both OMWC and the second Inheritour, showing just how much it dominates the tier. It was starting to feel overcentralized, which is why it's now banned

Sheer Force enabled many volatile sets for multiple pokemon, mainly mixed sets from the likes of Thundurus-I. Rampardos and Tauros to a lesser extent both haveaan incredible array of coverage moves boosted by Sheer Force and enough coverage moves to nail any special sponge of your choosing. Thundurus is king in this role, but other pokemon like Deoxys-S can also fill this role quite well. You don't need to go mixed to abuse the strengths of this ability; pokemon like Ground Magneton and Future Volcarona could abuse the boosted coverage to become fearsome attackers. The main culprit, however, are the mixed attackers, who punish dedicated special walls while holding special attacks too strong for uninvested pokemon to take. Overall it strained building too much, which is why it's now banned

Also, we have a new survey! Since the both the biggest boogeymen have just been banned, this one mainly focus on the Inheritour unbans. The new bans justify asking about them again, since this is a different metagame compared to the last time we asked about it

Thank you dhelmise in advance for implementing the changes

Hello, just want to share both teams i played for OMWC. This tier can be really funny but i dont know why roaning moon and sheer force were banned tbh prim will be really broken without sheer force user like sandy, thund but well we'll see ig

Demi agaisnt Velroc:
https://pokepast.es/a8451b8d0876f9ae
tbh before this match i didnt know how build this tier but when i learn this (really thx to Dunfan to help me a lot to this wc), its easy to build a good 6 and see what set r better on ur team. Two scarf for speed controle and trick some annoying pokemon for the team like Pex, Anni, Hands and hit Prim, Ghold and be a fast pivot for Lando, Roaning is classic.

Finale agaisnt Pannu:
https://pokepast.es/438714c8fe97274b
Missbuilding on the match. I build 2 version of the team with Ghold @Skeld without hasard and one with Ghold @ Quagsire for the same thing (Unaware user and beat Prim with it) but i think Quag is better. with both set u hit Prim but with one of them u can set the rock. I was pretty sure pannu wouldnt play snorlax so i wanted to build with darkrai who can be really really good on some MU good speed and the pulse r really insane with this ability, Boulder is really op too with this set as physical breaker if u click the right move u can pick one if ur oppo doesnt play Hands @ Persian-A

Well cya in ompl if inh is still part of it thx for reading
fuck Osake

I don't think Sheer Force mons were really holding Prim in check. They would often threaten an OHKO or 2HKO, even sometimes after a boost, but virtually all of them took heavy-to-fatal damage from either a counterattack or they were sniped before they could act with Triage. I've found a lot more success from attacking Primarina on the physical side. Ogerpon-Hearthflame explodes it with any Grass move and resists Fairy.

Was planning on trying out SF Azelf with Focus Blast and Earth Power from Landorus (4 Atk CC tickles PDef Ting-Lu, while Focus Blast kills it from full), but swapping Sheer Force for Tinted Lens and running some variant of the usual Braviary-H set will probably do a lot of work. You're not threatening nearly as much damage from neutral or SE attacks, but Close Combat suddenly chipping resists way harder may have potential.

Last day of the year, and the results of the last survey of the year. Sorry for the delay

"On a scale of 1-10, how enjoyable do you find the current metagame?"

Average: 7.4 (-0.43 from last survey)

A slight decrease, probably due to omwc bringing to light the evils of the metagames. I do understand that some were confused as to how to interpret this question since immediately before this survey there was a big metagame shake up, so no one had much time with the new inh

"On a scale of 1-10, how competitive and balanced do you find the current metagame?"

Average: 6.4 (-0.35 from last survey)

A slight decrease, probably for similar reasons as the last question.

With the most notorious boogeymen of recent memory having been just banned (Sheer force and Paldean Mega-Salamence), we didn't have anyone in our watchlist, so we didn't ask about anyone currently legal. Instead, we asked again for the pokemon legal in the Inheritour, since the new meta should warrant a re-evaluation of how would they impact the tier. These were rated from 1-5, with 1 being "why isnt it legal yet" and 5 being "This pokemon shouldve never been considered for an unban".

Cresselia

Average: 3.9 (+0.48 from last survey)

Turns out that the very good and super common dark type that is the best pokemon in the metagame getting banned doesn't make people very convinced on cress. I wonder why

Shaymin-Sky

Average: 2.9 (+0.15 from last survey)

Skymin has stayed about the same in the public's opinion. Not having a strong Sucker Punch from Paldean Mence everywhere benefits it, but it also lost one of its more promising sets, mixed SFLO. We will probably suspect it in the future when we have the chance

Is there anything you think should be tested to be unbanned?
Notable answers include Big Jigglypuff (not a chance now that cress is not a cantidate), Ursaluna (true!), Necrozma-DW (not that unreasonable if you compare its stats to regular hoopa, who has been niche at best since forever), Tera (no) and "Roaring Moon" (who? no.)

Is there anything else you think the council should look at?
The only answer I want to highlight is the one that reads "This survey had sheer force before???"

are you feeling jolly?
50% said yes, which would warrant measures to increase holiday spirit. However, due to the tardiness of this survey, implementing these measures would be moot, since the season is already over.

Lastly, as many of you already know, Inheritance will likely lose its permanent ladder in 2025 due to a prolonged lack of activity. It is really true that there are too many ladders for all of them to sustain a reasonable game count. The council and I have racked our heads on what to do with the ladder all year long but we didn't really have an answer. No one does. At the end we have decided to let whatever happens happen. Short of one of us jumpstarting a super successful youtube career revolving around Inh or a miracle, Inh will probably return to the omotm rotation. While, personally, not having to care so constantly about the tier is a load off my back, I'll miss the tier having a ladder, if for no other reason that the feeling that the tier "made it", that the tier i love is right besides AAA and STAB. But most of the time the ladder felt like it wasn't there in practice, and thats why its probably gonna leave. If you played Inh on ladder even once this year, Thank You.

My fellow gamers, Im double posting a month and a half later to ask a very important question

Who will take Paldean Mega Salamence's place in the tier?

its been a few months since That guy got jailed for its crimes and since then the biggest minds of inheritance havent been gaming much inh. After all it happened at the end of OM world cup, so we all were too tired to game, and then it was christmas, and then inh lost its ladder. But sooner or later we're gonna have to find a replacement for It on our teams, so I want to get the ball rolling and spark some discussion

Paldean Mence's most common role was of the Knock Off spammer, a fast, strong dark-type that was hard to take between its 139 base attack and Knock Off being a broken move, while also having great bulk and stats all around. It also in general was just the go-to physical dark type because it had both the highest attack stat of the legal ones and an incredible speed. Im gonna showcase some i think can kinda fit the bill and could take its place in some teams. Ofc none will be a perfect fit because Pee Mence has a statline that you'd pay 5.99 for in a fighting game, so i recommend you go and experiment to see what fits best

:sv/meowscarada:
Lokix (Meowscarada) @ Black Glasses / Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Tinted Lens
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance
- U-turn

Meowscarada is probably the first cantidade for many. It gets the closest to Pee Mence's high attack and gread speed, with even better speed, putting it above the likes of Sneasler, but much worse attack. The latter is probably gonna be a deal breaker for many since this guy definetly cant get away with running adamant and relying on sucker punch for speed control. Its also much more frailer; this wont be your emergency switch-in for anything ever. This is probably your best fit if you want to prioritize the knock off

:sv/kingambit:
Lokix (Kingambit) @ Black Glasses
Ability: Tinted Lens
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 112 HP / 252 Atk / 144 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance
- U-turn

Lycanroc-Dusk (Kingambit) @ Life Orb
Ability: Tough Claws
Tera Type: Rock
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Crunch
- Iron Head / Play Rough
- Swords Dance /Play Rough

I've seen some people experiment with gambler pre ban, not as a replacement to pmence, but as a way to run two of them in the same team. Now, Gambler can potentially take its place, bringing the currently highest attack stat of all legal dark types, an arguably better defensive profile than pmence had, and a secondary stab youd actually click!. It is, however, slow. Its really really slow, and sucker punch can only bridge the gap so much. Like, Big Donphan can just invest 36 EVs in speed to always outspeed you. Its typing isnt thaaat much of an improvement either, dark/steel gets hardwalled by the Metallic Hariyama and has to trade in the resistances to water, electric and fire. It might be solid if you wish to wallbreak with dark moves or if you want to spam strong tinted sucker punches.

:sv/zarude:
Perrserker (Zarude) @ Choice Band
Ability: Tough Claws
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Play Rough
- U-turn
- Gunk Shot

Rillaboom (Zarude) @ Choice Band
Ability: Grassy Surge
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Grassy Glide
- Wood Hammer
- U-turn

Zarude is in a middle ground between Meowscarada and Kingambit. It has a higher attack stat than meow, but not higher tham gambit, a way higher speed than gambit but way lower than meow, and a all around solid stat spread to boot. Its probably the guy you want for banded sets, since it can outspeed the bulkier pokemon in the tier and has a better speed stat than meow. Rillarude hasnt really seen a lot of success in the generation, but now that Pmence is out of the picture, it might be able to make a comeback! It still has to content with being resisted by a lot of the tier, tho, so im not sure it might happen

:sv/sneasler:
Perrserker (Sneasler) @ Choice Band
Ability: Tough Claws
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Gunk Shot
- U-turn

Sneasler is not a dark type. However, its probably the only pokemon that could rival both Pmence's power and speed at the same time. It also runs knock off all the time! It also has probably the worst defensive profile of all the pokemon in this post, and the convenience of your go-to high power stab also being Knock Off cannot be understated. If you liked Banded Pmence for its power more than anything, Sneasler might be the next best thing.

:sv/grimmsnarl:
Lycanroc-Dusk (Grimmsnarl) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Tough Claws
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 32 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Crunch
- Play Rough
- Swords Dance

This is my dark horse pick of this selection. Grimmsnarl was a niche pick last gen as a breaker and now that the competition has lessened it might be able to carve its niche. This is probably not the mon you want for the tinted sets but its potentially the hardest to check breaker in this list. Fairy is just a broken typing, and it pairs really well with Dark. The only pokemon that can take this is fezandipiti, and he isnt that great. It has to rely on ass move Play Rough and its quite slow and not that bulky, but its offensive profile is probably enough to bring some attention to it.

What do you guys think? Who will you try first? Do you think someone else can take this spot?
