[insert name here], An OU RMT

Balance Is Bliss [OU RMT]

Hi there! Recently I've been getting back into OU, and I've come up with a new team. It's OK, but it has a few problems (I'll get to them later). Could someone help me out? Thanks. OK then, here goes...

I think I sould also point out, this will be a WiFi team. It has been tested on Shoddy.

Ok, with that, let's move on!

The Lead
424Ambipom.png

Ambipom @ Silk Scarf
Ability: Technician
EVs: 6 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Fake Out
- Taunt
- Brick Break
- Return

OK, this is my lead. Standard Lead Ambipom, the main technique is to Fake Out, then either Return/Brick Break to death, or Taunt, or switch. It's a good way of getting in damage eairly and is ideal against slow Stealth Rockers.

Common Leads and what Ambipom does about them:
Red is a threat
Yellow can be a threat
Green isn't a threat
Black means I haven't come across it yet

  • Metagross:n/a

  • Azelf: n/a

  • Jirachi: n/a

  • Swampert: Fake Out, Taunt, defeat with Return. Easy.

  • Aerodactyl: n/a

  • Infernape: n/a

  • Hippowdon: n/a

  • Bronzong: Fake Out, Taunt, switch to Infernape. Can be a pain with Hypnosis.

  • Ninjask: Does anyone even use this? Fake Out and Return finish it eaisly.

  • Tyranitar: n/a

  • Machamp: Fake Out does a lot, that just leaves me to Return it to death. It can OHKO with DynamocPunch, but if it does, it's usually left with about 4%, so something can clean up after.

  • Froslass: A bit of a pain, because Ambipom can't do a thing. Switch to Infernape.
If anyone can think of some leads I've missed, please say ^_^

The Sweepers

Tanabata_08.png

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP/220 Def/36 Spd
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Wish
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic

Jirachi acts as my main special sweeper, and it does one hell of a job. This can set up Calm Mind a couple of times, then go on a rampage with ThunderBolt and Psychic. Wish means it can heal itself and others, which is good, as healing moves are genrally lacking in the team. Earthquakers scare it a bit, but it's Defences mean it can survive at least one usually. Mainly a counter to Gyrados, bulky Waters such as Slowbro, with Psychic for a powerful STAB move, which counters Infernp on switch ins and others.

473Mamoswine.png

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Snow Cloak
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Stone Edge
- Superpower

Mamoswine is the phsical Pokémon to the team. Ice Shard comes in handy against Dragons, and Pokémon such as Machamp, which Ambipom has weakened enough. The rest are there to counter various other things, such as Metagross and Infernape. I've opted for an Adamant nature for more power, however I feel I should change it to Jolly.

392.png

Infernape @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 64 Atk/192 Spd/252 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Flamethrower
- Close Combat
- Grass Knot
- Hidden Power [Ice]

My Mixed Sweeper. I've opted for a more specially-based set, as Ambipom is physical, so it keeps the numbers equal. Genrally used to deal out large damage very quickly, it can counter a lot. If possible, I'd quite like alternatives to Grass Knot, as it hasn't been very useful, and HP Ice, because it's difficult to get in-game (though it will most likely just end up being a legal hack anyway).

The Walls
220px-242Blissey.png

Blissey @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 24 HP/252 Def/232 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Softboiled
- Toxic
- Ice Beam
- Flamethrower

OK, this is the one causing the most problems. While it is very helpful and can wall special moves very well, as well as pull of a Toxic stall, it just doesn't do much else. It does it's job well, but only sometimes. A change of set or Pokémon would do nicely here.

180px-110Weezing.png

Weezing @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SAtk
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Pain Split
- Explosion

This is the Physical wall. It does it's job well, especially as it can avoid threats like Earthquake entirely, as well as Fighting being Not very effective. Fire Blast is the main attack, but Thunderbolt can be used for Waters and others. I was thinking of replacing this with Skarmory, for the 'SkarmBliss' combo.

OK, so there we have it. It's a good team, and it wins most of the time, however there are a few problems:

Threats said:
Heatran: This thing is hell. Numerous times Scarf Heatran has run all over my team. If Infernape or Mamoswine can't outspeed it, I'm doomed. Blissey can't do anything, with Toxic not affecting Steels, and Ice Beam doing nothing at all.

Stealth Rock: It's not too bad, but it can start to take it's toll later in the game.

Spr_b_g4_424_m.png

I started with Ambipom, because I like it and it works effectivly against common leads.
Spr_b_g4_424_m.png
Spr_b_g4_385.png

I needed a Special Sweeper to balance it out. Jirachi also acts as a cleric, so I added that in to fill both of these roles.
Spr_b_g4_424_m.png
Spr_b_g4_385.png
Spr_b_g4_473_m.png

Added a main physical sweeper, who adds Ice, Rock and Ground coverage.

Decided to add a mixed sweeper. Went with Lucario.

After reading the comments on Mixed Lucario, decided to go with Infernape. Went for a Specially-based set to balance out the sweepers.

Needed a Special Wall as I like teams to be balenced in terms of offence and defence. Added Blissey.

Needed a Physical Wall. Added Weezing after much searching.

So yeah, thanks for reading, and thanks for any help you may be able to give :toast:

well, your balanced part is fine. 1 lead, 3 sweepers ( special, mix, physical), walls (phsyical, special). I'm just concerned on your choices of pokemon. Your sweepers need to be changes. 2 are weak to ground with no resist. 2 are weak to fire with 1 shaky resit. You also lack stealth rock. With out it, your sweepers will fail. Change abmipom to swampert or something.Jirachi is fine, as is infernape. Mamoswine isn't so good. DD Gyarados is better, or DD nite if your worried about dragons. DD nite offerns many resists to things as water, fire, ground. It's ice and rcok type weakness is taken by the other two.

You said blissey is giving you troubles. Changes it to specially defensive celebi if you like. Even if you have another fire weakness, infernape and nite can take them. Thats the best i can think of now, there will be better suggestions for blissey. Weezing is fine.

you have some problems here.
  • Metagross:n/a
  • Azelf: n/a
  • Jirachi: n/a
  • Swampert: Fake Out, Taunt, defeat with Return. Easy. fake out+return doesn't kill. fake out does 20.8% to 24.5%, then return does 34.4%-40.8%. if you're unlucky another return might not even kill. then it can either SR and switch, or damage you with EQ.
  • Aerodactyl: n/a
  • Infernape: n/a
  • Hippowdon: n/a
  • Bronzong: Fake Out, Taunt, switch to Infernape. Can be a pain with Hypnosis.
  • Ninjask: Does anyone even use this? Fake Out and Return finish it eaisly. fake out fine, return? ninjask is WAY faster than you. you're supposed to taunt it....
  • Tyranitar: n/a
  • Machamp: Fake Out does a lot, that just leaves me to Return it to death. It can OHKO with DynamocPunch, but if it does, it's usually left with about 4%, so something can clean up after. LoLWUT?
Turn 1:
ambipom used fake out
does 33.3%-39.6%
machamp used dynamicpunch
ambipom fainted (173.2%-204.1%).

I don't know what kind of machamps you have been facing..
  • Froslass: A bit of a pain, because Ambipom can't do a thing. Switch to Infernape. fine, but froslass is not really used a lot in OU. if you still want to effectively deal with it, go with payback/pursuit over brick break.
have you even tested this team? you haven't even come across the majority of the leads.

onto the pokes:

blissey is fine, but i would make it bold with evs of 252HP/252Def/4Speed or special defense. for the moves, i wouldn't use ice beam. it has limited coverage in OU. sure it OHKO or 2HKOes flygon and dragonite, but they will have killed you already. seismic toss is more general. since you have a heatran problem, thunder wave is better on this blissey. it completely stops heatran. the moveset should be aromatherapy/softboiled/seismic toss/thunder wave.

IMO, skarmbliss is good, but it is generally looked down by many players.

i'll give this another rate when it is changed a bit. gl!

Hey well first your mamoswine has no Evs so its hard to judge exactly what your doing with it.

But my first point would be to change around your pokemon.
You said you where having trouble with Heatran I would swap your infernape to a LO starmie.

LO starmie Surf = 110.2% - 130% on a heatran
Lo starmie Thunderbolt = 136.6% - 160.7% Gyarados

As you can see from two quick calculations it acts as a very nice Lo sweeper for your team taking out potential threats quite quickly and scaring away those heatrans.

I would run this spread on starmie

Life orb
252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
~ Surf
~ Thunderbolt
~ Ice Beam
~ Rapid Spin
as you can see you also get a rapid spinner as a utilty move when your still being hit by Sr.

Ok this still leaves you without stealth rocks and with 3 fighting weaknesses So my second change would be to swap a Blissey to a defensive celebi like so
252 HP / 220 Def / 36 spe
~ Grass Knot
~ Recover
~ Thunder Wave
~ Earth Power

the fire weakness can be quite easily absorbed by starmie who can then scare away heatran or revenge kill it with surf. With stealth rocks i would just change your lead.

Fake Out gives a guranteed Flinch ¬_¬

Damn, I'll add that in. Thanks for noticing.

OK then, I'll try that and update later, thanks. Do people really care on WiFi if it's a hacked Celebi, as long as it's legal? As far as I know they're not available outside of Japan yet.

Sigh,You Can Actually Just Pokesav One And Its From 10 Aniv Or The Event Celebi(The Movie)

Anyways,Rate Time :)

Now,There Is No SR Which Is a Problem.

I Agree With 360Swampert About Changing Infernape And Blissey ^_^

You Can Make Infernape As A Lead As You Wont Lose Anything Except Taunt D:

This Set:

395.png

Infernape @ Focus Sash
Naive Nature
Ev's:64 Atk / 252 SpA / 192 Spe
Moveset:
~ Fake Out
~ Stealth Rock
~ Fire Blast
~ Close Combat / Encore

It Actually Gets SR Up 90% Which Is Pr0 :)

How It Does Against Other Leads

  • Metagross:Fake Out And Then Set Up SR Then Just Fire Blast That THING
  • Azelf: Fake Out And Fire Blast For THE OHKO
  • Jirachi: Fake Out And Fire Blast,He Doesnt Mind Being Trick Though
  • Swampert: Fake Out,Set Up SR And Just CC That Thing Till Death
  • Aerodactyl: Fake Out.SR Or CC Till It Dies
  • Infernape:See Who Wins Speed Tie And Fake Out And CC That Thing
  • Hippowdon: Fake Out,SR And CC Till Infernape Dies
  • Bronzong: Fake Out,Fire Blast Or SR :)
  • Ninjask: Use SR As They Will Protect And Switch To Mamoswine And Spam Ice Shard
  • Tyranitar: Do They Even Use Ttar Vs Infernape?
  • Machamp: Fake Out,SR And Switch To Weezing When Its Bullet Punching
It Does Well Against Other Leads

Good Luck!

Ninjask will protect turn 1 then Sub down to 25% as you return it. It can then activate its pinch berry and pass Speed boosts and +1 Att, most likely. Swampert will also win with Leftovers recovery, even if you roll max damage.

And yeah, I would personally use Infernape over Ambipom.
