Inspiration of KG stall

INTRODUCTION

Hi all. I have always been a fan of stall teams. With the recent addition of magic guard stall teams are getting harder and harder to build. That is the exact reason I like to build them. It sort of switches off every year. Last generation they made some fine stall additions such as hippowdon and roserade and rotom. This generation they made some nice anti stall pokemon (excluding ferrothorn). So I am looking forward to see what they come up with next. I love the challenge stall teams give because honestly weather dominates this season. If you try to go away from weather teams then it is really tough. I have made this team because so far it tests out really good and I have made some major adjustments so that it works better. However, even though it is working somewhat decent there is a lot of room for improvement. Most people just go out and test teams and play with their battlestyle. Weather teams don’t really require a certain battle style (excluding heavy offense). So that is why in order to sully test a stall team you have to adapt to a stall playstyle. You have to be able to switch often to get the upperhand. I get my inspiration from “Kevin Garret Stall”. This was such a great stall team in generation four. Now in generation 5 Kg updated his team and I was a little saddened to see it wasn’t really much stalling anymore. So I decided to set out and make a stall team despite there being sigilyph and Reunicles running amuck everywhere. I use the same building style KG uses. Pokemon # 1-2, 3-5, and 6 for synergy. Please note this was just inspired by KG stall not as good as or better then just inspired by

Team Building Proccess

I had to start out with my favorite Tyranitar. I love him because IMO he is a better staller then hippowdon. He has higher HP(I think) and can have better defences and special defences. I always love running a defensive tyranitar because it can always atleast get stealth rocks out.

I then wanted something that had synergy with tyranitar. I love garchomp he has sand veil to abuse the sand and can be bulky and sweep when he needs to be. He usually gets most of my Kos because honestly in generation 5 you need a good revenge killer on your team or stall won’t work so well.

This giant jellyfish is an amazing special defender and with water absorb it just gives me another type immunity. He can stall and spread around the WoW attacks to crush any physical sweeper.

Ahh my favorite combo in generation five. The ferrocent combo is nasty to deal with and is the newly updated Skarmbliss. He is excellent at serving his role and can handle nearly everything quite well. The only thing he runs from is those mean old Conkeldurrs.

I decided to go with the F-W-G core because it works so well. Torkoal is very bulky defensive wise and was the only fire type rapid spinner so I stuck with him. Other then rapid spin he doesn’t really do much though.

Skarmory returns in this generation as well. WILL THIS GUY EVER STOP BEING SUCH A GOOD STALLER???? He comes in tuants if he needs too and whirlwinds just to annoy people. He is an amazing physical wall and can put on some really nasty stuff.

After a while of testing Torkoal just wasn’t working out because honestly there are not a lot of other stall teams out there. I still wanted my F-W-G core so I went with this guy and he is amazing at takin special attacks and also gives me a fire type immunity as well.
In Depth

Tyranitar
Impish
Sand Stream
Focus Sash
252 hp, 200 def, 56 sdef
MOVESET
Crunch
Earthquake
Fire Blast
Stealth Rock

My beloved tyranitar. I always prefer a defensive Tyranitar set. He can take hits better and with no att evs he still has over 300 attack so he can dish out just fine. With this set he can always atleast manage to pull of stealth rocks which is vital in this. He also always sets up the sand for garchomp which garchomp really appreciates the boosted evasion. These Evs give him 296 defense 404 hp and I don’t know exactly but more then 400 special defense because he gets a boost on special defense from sandstorm. Fire blast is there for those ferrothorn counters as well as things like skarmory, grass types, bugs, etc. Earthquake is always nice to have and Crunch is for those PESKY REUNICLES/SIGILYPHS. So far this guy is my main counter to those things and that really is putting a big bounty on his head. He needs more help to be able to glue this team together.

Garchomp
Sand veil
Leftovers
Jolly
120 hp, 80 def, 172 sdef, 132 spe
MOVESET:
Earthquake
Dragon claw
Swords dance
Protect

My Garchomp and my main killer on the team. The common set is substitute over protect but since it is a stall team and because I do not want garchomp losing hp just to stall turns I ran protect. Protect also helps for scouting my opponent to see what they will do in case I need to switch. Swords dance too boost attack more and EQ and Dragon claw for some powerful STABS. Take all this and add a 20% chance of dodging attack and you got one extremely tough sweeper to KO. I have had some close encounters that I won only because of sand veil. People want him banned because bright powder is banned too. However, if we banned everything that had similar effects then Sandstorm teams would be screwed because they lose sand rush due to swift swim and drizzle being banned. He has great synergy with Tyranitar and can sweep full teams if he manages to get +4 in attack.

Jellicent
Water Absorb
Leftovers
Calm
252hp, 252 sdef, 4 spa
MOVESET:
Hex
Will-o-Wisp
Hydro Pump
Recover

Oh this little fishy is annoying to soooo many people. He has high enough special defense to take you there and if you try taking him on physically he just WoWs you to be mean. Hex is for the 150BP move when opponent is burned from WoW and hydro pump is for the 180 BP move to deal damage. Recover just to stall you out even more. Overall he has great synergy with both ferrothorn and heatran. If my opponent tries using an electric or grass move I just switch to ferrothorn. He also switches in on those pesky water attacks that heatran tends to draw. He can sweep or stall depending on what you want him to do. Another great thing about this guy is its my spin blocker for those annoying things like Starmie. If I do see starmie I just Hex the thing and hope it dies.

Ferrothorn
Iron Barbs
Sassy
252 hp, 132 def, 124 sdef
Leftovers
MOVESET:
Leech seed
Power Whip
Spikes
Protect

OHHHHH the must have for any stall team this guy is annoying as crap to deal with. With only two weaknesses and resisting pretty much everything else he is tough to beat. Spikes just to deal residual damage to opponent along with stealth rock from tyranitar. Powerhip>Gyro Ball because Powerwhip actually gets some super effective hits Gyro ball is just sort of there and doesn’t do as much. Leech seed to recover some hp and protect is there to scout. He has great synergy with jellicent and heatran. With heatrans ability and Jellicents Ghost typing he has no weaknesses. If he pulls of the leech seed he also is passing that on to them as well. This guy helps wall a ton of pokemon and is just useful in any team not just stall.

Heatran
Calm
Air Balloon
252 hp, 252 sdef, 4 spa
Flash Fire
MOVESET
Fireblast
Earthpower
Hidden Power Ice
Protect

Ahh another special wall. This guy is beast. He can handle gliscor easily with HP ice, gets a STAB fireblast plus if he switched in on a fire attack it becomes even stronger and earthpower is there for anything else I cant get. Protect is natural for scouting and for taking off another turn to my opponent. Air balloon is there to take out its main weakness and makes Gliscor think twice before switching in. Great synergy overall and can help both ferrothorn and jellicent with their needs. All three are great stallers and can deal residual damage quite well.

Skarmory
Sturdy
Impish
252 hp, 252 def, 4 sdef
Leftovers
MOVESET
Taunt
Brave Bird
Roost
Whirlwind

The Classic Skarmory set. Whirlwind opponents to spread the residual damage some more. Roost for recovery. Taunt is there for things like opposing ferrothorn and other skarmory. Brave Bird for some late game damage. He is great and can stand by himself just as long as heatran isn’t near bye. If there Is and it uses fire blast I just switch into my own heatran for some extra power. He can stand alone but still has great synergy with the rest of the team. He is my main physical wall and can take a lot of hits before dying. Overall a great physical wall with recovery it is tough to beat.

Hope you like my team and thanks for the rate.

your team is too slow. choice band terrakion is just an example. with 108 base speed suprisingly it still can outspeed your entire team and threaten each member; all it takes is one more member of the opponents team to better your fastest pokemon (garchomp) and youre under a lot of pressure.

skarmory seems out of place. simply adding any standard excadrill for a quick fix would be a huge improvement.

well it seems interesting the only thing i have a problem with is that it gets rid of a lot of synergy in the team. With skarmory i got a physical wall, a ground immunity and a guy who can whirlwind. plus skarmorys weaknesses are covered. Electric is covered by garchomp and fire by heatran. So is there anyway to get around all those things.

luckily your tyranitars well supported with jelli/ferro/tran. that said excadrill can slot in nicely because while skarmory may prove to be useful, it doesnt add anything new (you could do with another fighting resist if im honest), and there are phazers out there better suited for this team should you desire such.

lets talk TR reuniculus. It literally destroys your team if jellicent is in the 60% ball park and your garchomp is anything less that full health( it may very well 2hko regardless w/ life orb). Your required ttar switch in is all the time it needs to guarantee about 3-4 kos against your team without even taking an attack. It can then switch out freely, because you lack pursuit or any form of punishment for that matter and come in later to do it again against any entry hazard user you have left.

No rapid spinner is REALLY going to put this team under a ton of pressure very quickly. Because it can be very tricky to find a place to spin in a match, and because you need a legit way to beat reuniculus anyway, I think something like a bulky taunt mew/ wobbafet in place of skarmory could help. Heatran could be made into a more defensive set using lava plume over fire blast for the better chance of a burn since status REALLY is important for stall now.
Mew @ Leftovers
Calm; 252 Hp/ 132 Def/ 124 Sp. Def (you could go max/ max in a stat, but this offers a bit of bulk on both ends)
Softboiled
Taunt
Seismic toss
WoW, Thunderwave, U-turn, Hypnosis, Toxic or whatever you want really
-It should be noted that people totally forget this guy has synchronize and their vaporeons and such are all to eager to throw toxic on this thing. Also, this mew without u turn is a free ko/ cm +6, +6 for an enemy chandelure (just food for thought).

Alternately, wobuffet does an amazing job of trapping weather pokemon like politoed and ninetails and killing them (beware of toxic) AND can turn reuniculus into set up fodder for your garchomp/ exadrill.
Wobuffet @ leftovers
Calm 28 Hp/ 232 Def/ 252 Sp Def (again, more of a general purpose spread, but I prefer to make my pokemon beat cetain threats which would require ev changes)
Encore/ Tickle/ Counter/ Mirror Coat
-come in on any reuniculus set ever and encore and watch them scream. Tickle switch and reuniculus now gets destroyed by your beefy ttar or whatever. If its TR, then you can encore the attack and mirror coat or switch to an immunity/ resist. Wobuffet does work a bit better with wish + heal bell support, but he will cover your weaknesses decently well.

Garchomp is slower in comparison than he used to be, and as such I think that excadrill may make a fair replacement for him in your team. Though, he is kind of dead weight outside of a sand storm he will check threats that outspeed garchomp even if they are scarfed as long as you can keep up sand. Just a thought, not really a suggestion.

well one of the objections i have with excadrill is another fighting type weakness. However i am willling to change it. I do need some defense in it though because skarmory is my only physical wall.

i do need to work on my reunicles weakness but that mew set doesnt help at all with it. I mean taunt doesnt affect it and status conditions dont affect either

i do need to work on my reunicles weakness but that mew set doesnt help at all with it. I mean taunt doesnt affect it and status conditions dont affect either

taunt stops its set up and recovery because your faster. You can freely seismic toss it to death and it will never get a chance to recover thanks to taunt. This mew cant really lose to a standard cm reuniculus without a fair amount of hax involved.

Dont mean to double post put im just inserting test result

With this set

Excadrill
Life Orb
Adamant
252att, 252 spe, 4 hp
Sand Rush
MOVESET
Brick Break
Earthquake
Rock Slide
X-Scissor

instead of skarmory

Here is what happened on smogon server. My online name is OBOIJK....too long after that
Basically its a bunch of random letter. Anyways when i tested it on smogons server online i went and won on OU tourny and the final round was against someone who was like 400 ahead of me in points. I thank you for suggesting excadrill. I started at 874 due to testing bad teams and now i am at 1060 aand still rising. On top of winning the tournament against someone who was at like 1456

Really, I would list Porygon2, Starmie, and Blaziken as very threatening to this team. TtarJellicent Gchomp Ferro Heatran Skarm.
Porygon2 can abuse Sand Veil-hax, force Heatran and Jellicent out, and threatens Gchomp. Thankful Ttar doesn’t take much from BoltBeam, but will be work down with no sort of recovery.
Specially Defensive Bulkup Scrafty can deal with Porygon2 & Starmie easily enough, but adds another fighting weakness.
Blaziken with HP Ice or Shadow Claw destroys most everything here. So it might be better to place some Evs into Jellicents Def, because it can take Special hits even without much investment.

I might consider running Pursuit over Crunch, as many of the things Ttar would like to Crunch switch out.
Nitpick - Unless a double weakness, all those flying types Heatran is hitting with HP Ice are hit harder by Fire Blast.
Not that it matters much, but Ferro doesn’t need to be Sassy if its not running Gyro Ball, all you’re doing right now is losing to other Ferrothorn.
Consider changing Jellicent’s Water Absorb to Cursed Body, because choiced water moves are uncommon, and nothing is going to use Water attacks against Jellicent anyway except for when you switch in, Cursed Body allows you to disable something’s only SE move against it.

Your Tyranitar loses to Reuniclus, the posted Mew set beats it 90% of the time. The other 10% is a crit somewhere. Taunt it to stop recovery and kill it with Seismic Toss/Shadow Ball if you want more offensive pressure. It also makes you less fodder for CM Chandelure but you needn't worry about that anyway since it's unreleased. @above Blaziken is Uber, so he isn't going to see it. The other two are threatening though. Taunt/W-o-W/Roost/Shadow Ball Mew would go a long way to helping deal with them.

first off i did list porygon-2 as a threath and i do not think starmie or blaziken is that big of a threat. Starmie falls to powerwhip, hex, crunch,a stat boosted garchomp, or excadrills X-Scissor. And blaziken falls to hydro pump, earthquake, or a stat boosted dragon claw even though id be using EQ. Blaziken with HP ice or Shadow claw doesnt destroy everything it destroys one pokemon. Shadow claw is only supereffective against jellicent and HP ice is super effective on garchomp if it manages to outspeed garchomp and hope its enough to OHKO. So those really arent huge threats. I do agree with the HP ice comment on heatran I can change nature on ferrothorn and i think il TRY cursed body if it works out well then great if not im switching back because no matter what a type immunity is still a type immunity.

I meant that given one turn of setup (which is fairly easy consider it threatens 3 members of your team out) Blaziken can cleanly KO everything except for either Jellicent or Chomp, and its likely to have either HP Ice or Shadow Claw: Skarmory (FireBlast), Ferrothorn(FireBlast/HJK), Heatran(HJK), Ttar(HJK) - and though bulky, Chomp probably won’t like taking a +2 HJK.

And, I didn't mean that you don’t have coverage moves to hit Starmie/Blaziken, they are both fairly frail and can be taken out with neutral hits, it is that if your team is weakened, or one or two members are gone, either can come in after a kill and pretty much sweep.
Starmie: If Ferrothorn is gone and Jellicent or Ttar have taken reasonable damage, everything else is hit hard by BoltBeam +HydroPump. Worse is Starmie in the rain, who has Thunder to take out Jellicent and Skarm more easily, Ttar/Heatran will be Koed by HydroPump with rain, and Chomp won’t want to stay in unless you’re sure it doesn’t have Ice Beam
Granted, while Blaziken will have difficulty switching in, it can safely come in on Ferrothorn, or after Ttar or Heatran have KOed something, proceed to Swords Dance or Sub, as even without a Speed Boost, those three are easily outspeed and KOed which pretty much forces you out.

blaziken is uber. Starmie CAN sweep in rain if the counters are weakened, but thats like a no duh statement. What cant sweep with weakened counters?

Blaziken is uber now, so that's not really a problem
------------
Now back to the team
Something i noticed is that you think you can handle some threats by just attacking them without considering that they're faster and can attack first

For example Terrakion can setup in front of Heatran (earthpower doesn't kill it in sandstorm) or force Tyranitar out and use Sword Dance, from there it practically OHKOes your whole team as Skarmory is unable to take a +2 Life Orb Close Combat and Jellicent is also wrecked by +2 Stone Edge

In the same way Calm Mind Virizion outspeeds everything and can OHKO Skarmory with +1 Focus Blast, and he's your only hope as Fire Blast from Heatran can't ohko so if Focus Blast miss agaisnt it Virizion will just attack again

Nasty Plot Thundurus is even worse, is even faster that those two above and it normally runs T-Bolt, hp ice and Focus Blast which cover your whole team

Some other minor threats to the team are DD dragonite, which Skarmory can only phaze away as it ohkoes everyone else with Outrage and Fire Punch

Mix Infernape, Jellicent can take it but grass knot does a lot to her so watch out

Keldeo and Genesect are not released yet so don't worry about them.

So that's what i can spot at a quick glance, maybe using a Scarf on your Garchomp can help checking all this threats, or choice band on Excadrill with aerial ace maybe?
However losing Skarmory means that you lose vs oposite Excadrill, so Unaware Quagsire instead Jellicent can help you with that as it beat most physical threats, something like bold 252 hp / 252 def / 4 spD Scald, Stockpile, Recover, Toxic

other nipticks, running Hydro Pump on Jelli is not that good of an idea as you want to stay longer and Hydro Pump only have 8 pp max which can be outstalled easily, surf will be a better option as you already have will-o-wisp

Anyway you'll still have other things to cover but i don't have time now for a full rate so, try what i said and good luck :P
