Institutionalizing the currencies of smogoff

fellow members of smogoff,

Recently there has been a surge in use of currencies (allegedly cryptocurrencies except they don't represent actual money) created and run by members of our very own forum. I, myself, am the proud owner of two (2) xzernbucks, but there also exists the NFP. These cryptocurrencies often do not have a clear value and are monopolized by one smogon account. Although I do support their use, a portion of my conscience is fearful. What if a Mind Flayer were to take over one of these smogon accounts? What if they suddenly get hit by a solar flare and lose all of their internet connection? If these scenarios (or something similar) were to happen, there would be many terrible effects, but of course the worst would be that without the inventor of these cryptocurrencies, they would lose all of their value instantaneously.

My suggestion for this problem is to somehow institutionalize these new currencies. They would be institutionalized and although their price would still be 100% in control of the inventor, their price would instantly freeze whenever that inventor logs off. This would also provide a means of accountability if any of the inventors were to abuse their power, for example by asking for real money in return for smogoff currencies or if they were to suddenly delete all of one person's savings due to personal grudges (of course, if you are an inventor and you would like to do this, you shouldn't take away someone's hard-earned currency, just temporarily lower the value of the currency until whatever you wanted to mess up is over with).

If this institutionalization were to occur, it would be one step closer to preserving the one last remaining tangible currency we have: react points.

What do you guys think of this idea? Bad? Good? Terrible? Well-spirited but in the wrong direction?

user musiquepkmn. i regret to inform you that likes were in fact used as a currency in the past (citation needed, i cant find the threads.) each time this has happened, however, smogon "big wigs" as i will call them shut down the transfer of goods through this system. this is why our only feasible option is to use de-centralized currencies such as xzernbucks for all transactions ever.

i'm sorry, I phrased it incorrectly. What I meant is that react points are our only item of tangible worth left. Smogon bigwigs shut down the mass transport of react points, but small deals of react points are still entirely legal to my knowledge. This is something the smogon bigwigs orchestrated to maintain a relatively equal spread of react points across all members, as well as make sure that the react-to-post ratio is not blown out of proportion for any members.

However, I still do fear the widespread use of said de-centralized currencies for reasons stated above, which is why I am suggesting that it is institutionalized in some way.
