Posting because I've had a lot of fun with this team and it'll be irrelevant in a month's time due to PokéBank, so I want to showcase it before it becomes crap. It's a stall team of the agonisingly slow variety, everyone's favourite.
This is a concept I've been wanting to try for quite a while, but until Gen 6 there just hasn't been enough variety in the amount of usable Pokémon. Physical attackers are stopped by burns (which all but one Pokémon on the team have access to), special attackers are stopped by things with obscene amounts of SDef and burn-immune Fire-types are stopped by Water-types with Scald (hence why this sort of thing wouldn't have worked pre-gen V). Status and hazards and the like should really be counterable by any stall team worth its salt. There are some notable exceptions to this and I'm sure you've already thought of some while reading this - I'll get onto those in the threat list.
Anyway, here's the team.
Tyranitar @ Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 96 Def / 160 SDef
Impish Nature
- Rock Slide
- Pursuit
- Stealth Rock
- Rest
Usually my lead, and the only member of the team that can't spread burns. So why did I put it here? Firstly, it reliably gets rid of Talonflame, both Megazards and probably a bunch of other less common Fire types, either with Rock Slide (used over Stone Edge due to accuracy and less of a concern for brute force on a stall team) or Stealth Rock. Besides that, it's got a giant SDef stat in the sand, which, when used alongside a team based upon neutering all physical offence, makes it pretty much a brick wall. It also provides residual damage in the forms of Stealth Rock and temporary sand, the latter of which stopping weather-based teams in their tracks and activating whether asleep or awake (thereby making Rest's sleep turns a bit less of a burden), can trap things with the strongest uninvested Pursuit there is and is resistant to Trick/Knock Off. The EV spread makes it always survive two Outrages from Xzard (the most damage it can do to MegaTar in two turns before getting 2HKO'd by Rock Slide) and get the bonus Def point, with the rest buffing its already huge SDef.
Gourgeist-Super @ Leftovers
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature
- Phantom Force
- Will-O-Wisp
- Leech Seed
- Protect
I had a lot of success with this set on my previous non-stall team, it has great synergy with Tyranitar typing-wise and it can burn, so it made the team. Why not Trevenant? Well, both of them learn this moveset and it's possible to make Gourgeist bulkier than Trevenant stats-wise, as this one is. But if it turns out that Trevenant-exclusive movesets are simply better than this one, I'll happily make the switch. Will-o-Wisp spreads burn, Leech Seed provides a means of recovery and adds residual damage and Protect both adds an extra turn of damage/recovery and allows me to scout the opponent's moves a bit. Phantom Force isn't a commonly used move on the Grass/Ghosts, but it's worked for me alongside the other three moves in that it provides the same utilities as Protect while also inflicting non-passive damage. Its use is kind of hard to explain, but it's proved useful in practice. Frisk because Pickup's useless and Gourgeist's Grass typing makes Insomnia mostly redundant. That being said, Frisk does have its uses, like spotting Lums and choice items/lack of choice items. Also, Gourgeist is one of my two spinblockers.
Tentacruel @ Leftovers
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Relaxed Nature
- Scald
- Knock Off
- Rapid Spin
- Protect
I don't know what I was smoking when I thought the last set was a good idea. No recovery AT ALL on a Pokémon taking so much residual damage from sand and repeated hazard/Leech Seed switch-ins does not a durable staller make. Hopefully the addition of Leftovers and Protect will mitigate that at least a little bit, while it doesn't really lose anything from lack of Assault Vest/Sludge Wave.
Gardevoir @ Leftovers
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Will-O-Wisp
- Protect
- Wish
In all honesty, this is only here because it's the only pre-bank Dragon resist that can burn, but it's ended up being surprisingly successful. As well as passing (disappointingly small) Wishes, spreading more burns and taking non-SE special hits with ease, it's a great last resort against some Pokémon that give me trouble because of Trace (see: Gliscor, Sableye, Gastrodon; also it can have fun with Protean). Psychic/Fairy typing ain't too shabby either.
Quagsire @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 176 Def / 252 HP / 80 SDef
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Substitute
- Stockpile
- Recover
I've never really used Unaware Quagsire much before, but its stalling ability and ability to stop boosting sweepers is unbelievable. It comes in on a stat booster, Stockpiles up until it's taking virtually nothing from its attacks and sets up durable Substitutes healing when needed. And of course, it's doing all this while spamming Scalds for that delicious burn chance. It's also the only Pokémon on the team geared more towards physical defence than special, save for maybe Gourgeist, since most boosters are physical and I also need a go-to physical hit-taker outside of that.
Spiritomb @ Leftovers
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 Def
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Will-O-Wisp
- Spite
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
Taunt weak? NO U. This Spiritomb is a lot of fun to use, whether it's throwing burns at substitutes (I love you Infiltrator) or draining the PP of Heal Bell/Aromatherapy to 0. As with many Pokémon on the team, I've maxed out EVs on the specially defensive side since the physical side's covered by either burn or by something like Quagsire. Spiritomb is the go-to mon for absorbing any status not resisted by anything else on the team (which is basically just burns) and it just spends its time either burning anything that's somehow still healthy or last-ditch hardcore PP stalling with the unusual Spite against anything I would otherwise be unable to get past or just users of important low PP moves, which is principally clerics but can be extended to pretty much anything else. Also, my other spinblocker.

Tentacruel @ Assault Vest
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Relaxed Nature
- Sludge Wave
- Scald
- Knock Off
- Rapid Spin
The first of my two Scald users and my much-needed hazard remover. Assault Vest makes it impenetrable on the special side, which gives it chances to switch in and is also generally useful when you're throwing this many burns around. The restrictions of Assault Vest may be counterproductive though and a Leftovers set may be preferred - that's what your input's for. EVs are still all pumped into Def though, because it's quite frail if you don't. Rapid Spin gets rid of hazards, Knock Off removes things like Leftovers recovery (and, crucially, Trevenant's Sitrus), Scald maintains the pressure of inflicting burns and Sludge Wave's just...there. In addition to sponging special hits in emergencies and spinning away hazards, Tentacruel can switch in on Leech Seeds from Ferrothorn/Trevenant/Mega Venusaur and slowly sap their health while it fires Scalds/Sludge Waves at them, but I really need some form of recovery here to make sure it doesn't die in the process. I made it Relaxed rather than Bold so as not to weaken Knock Off, and it outspeeds everything it needs to even with the speed drop. As you've probably gathered, this is the Pokémon I most need help with, especially Sludge Wave and lack of recovery.
